Garage Sauvage

Garage Sauvage
Belgian Ghent-Antwerp based 2-piece band. Formed in 2001, when Nico Maho and Thomas Vanelslander met through a mutual friend. The atmosphere was loose, people were having a good time, parties were attended, ... Making music is so much fun. Things got more serious when in 2005 they realized that their sound was actually different from other crap, the songs were catchy and friends seemed to share these feelings. Longtime friend CJ Bolland came into the picture during the making of "Night Vulture". The whole was mixed by Jan 'Jakke" De Rijck, who worked with people like Gabriel Rios, Zap Mama, Daan, A Brand and Novastar. In November 2006 a first EP (Night Vulture) and single (8 Day's Weekend) was released through the label of the band's management, Tourcontrol. The single also featured remixes by STIJN, CJ Bolland and Lester Bangs. And to top it off there was a funky video. The first full cd (Ready To Surrender) was released in January 2008.

White Circle Crime Club

White Circle Crime Club
White Circle Crime Club is a four-piece band from Antwerp (Belgium) consisting of Jelle De Cremer (vocals/guitar), Jan Matthé (bass/vocals), Sis Matthé (vocals/guitar/piano/organ) and Krist Torfs (drums). Around since 2001 and with a background in fast punk/hardcore bands at the end of the nineties, White Circle Crime Club so far have released These Are The Secret Sounds Of Fear (e.p., 2003), Written in Black (2005) and A Present Perfect (2006). Their third full-length effort is called Pictures Of Stares (2008) and was again recorded in their own Blue Hotel studio in Chimay (B) by Bert Aerts and mastered by Alan Douches. With the album, White Circle Crime Club have finally come home and for the first time musically succeeded in making a record that breathes one atmosphere throughout, in contrast with the eclectic, unfinished schizophrenia of a group still finding its feet on earlier efforts. Still, it's the unmistakable sound of these four people playing together. Each song on Pictures Of Stares paints a pretty, abstract and dreamy picture, eloquently streamed consciousness full of love for time, travel and unreality. Before and after releasing A Present Perfect in September 2006, White Circle Crime Club joined TV on the Radio twice on a European stint. They also played a VPRO radio session and successfully toured on their own, celebrated for the honesty and ferocity shows are delivered with on stage. Early 2007, White Circle Crime Club toured the larger part of Western Europe (from Oslo to Lissabon) together with The Blood Brothers.

The Subtitles

The Subtitles
There are 3 artists that share the name "The Subtitles". The Subtitles are a 4-piece electro-rock-chic band of lovers from St. John's, Newfoundland. The Subtitles formed in 2007 by 4 established musicians. National Songwriting Competition and singer-songwriter Kirk Penney with Maple Blues Nominee Darren "Boobie" Browne recruited Bryan Power (The Paranoids, Ruby's Babymaker) and Rebecca Cohoe (The Soft Intelligence)to create what has become "Newfoundland's Band to Watch in 2009" by the largest read publication in the province, "The Herald". Since then they have played with the likes of Joel Plaskett, Bob Wiseman and the Novaks. With 3 EPs in the books and a full-length album (recorded by Mark Neary of the Novaks) to be released this summer, 2009 will prove to be a busy one including their first major tour. The Subtitles have formed a healthy following in the Newfoundland market and have been compared to the Flaming Lips and "a Happy Cure".

Leafpeople

Leafpeople
EN/ Leafpeople is a five-headed musical monster from Antwerp, the (multi-)cultural capital of Flanders, Belgium. They deal in Neo-Post-Pre-Pop made especially for the kind of people who like their riffs catchy and their lyrics erudite. Their enthusiasm and puberal virility helps them to give clumsy and, strangely, therefore spectacular live-shows that have brought them numerous awards, like a crushing victory on LatentTalent, second place at FrappantPOP, second place in a hit song-competition in Bxl, a short stint on Humo's Rock Rally, and some interesting gigs in support of Think of One, Raymond van het Groenwoud, Sandra Kim(!) and Willy Sommers (!).

Max Rouen

Max Rouen
A short Interview with Mr. Max Rouen about his new Album "Magnetic Wave Of Sound": How would you describe your music on "magnetic wave of sounds". As how the world would sound like if I was in charge...No really, I would describe it as some kinda belgian surrealism, but with sound instead of images. I think the way I recorded also made a characteristic sound. Since my youth I was fascinated by reel to reel - tape recorders. And at the time I was working on the first songs of magnetic wave of sound everybody i knew was applying the computer and looking at a screen constantly, I tried to recreate the music they were doing with cutting and pasting real tape. witch gives of course a very gritty and sometimes noisy sound. You can make tape loops, reverse bits, cut real small pieces of tape, overmodulate the whole thing , tape it to another machine and start experimenting with the tape speed. And the results will allways differ a little bit of what you had in mind, so you're always eager to hear the result of what you did. Could you tell me something about your band members or the artists who support you on this album? In fact, I can give you a million reasons why I like to work alone most of the times. I don't work strictly with professional people and this can add up in some strange results. For Instance Leon, the most remarkable voice on the record, is in fact a 68-year old alcoholic with a very bad reputation. Actually his rep. was so bad, my wife wouldn't let him in our house to make some recordings. So we had to use a field recording, that actually made it on the record. It's not easy working with him, harassing the female members of the group, showing up late, showing up drunk, forgetting all his lyrics and besides that acting like a diva... Luckily the other people are more stabile.[...]

DJ 4T4

DJ 4T4
The man behind the name is Kristof Michiels, born in '73, deejaying, producing, and simply active as a musical artist since 1987. His first platform was hiphopmusic, which was of course a much more open style in those days and as a crossbreed included house, funk and whatnot. It all really started for him after the Beasties and Run-DMC came to town in '85... In 1996 he released his first record, "Do you believe in Magick?", under the name of Magik Ballet Ensemble, which, along with its successor "What do you mean", gained him critical acclaim, but the greater succes only came with 't Hof van Commerce, a hiphopgroup rapping in flemish, together with mc's Serge Buyse and Flip Kowlier. They have scored big with 4 albums and a number of singles since then, with sales and succes topping some of the biggest pop/rockbands in Belgium. Around the year 2000 the interest in dancemusic took the upperhand over the hiphop-oriented occupations, with the exception of the activities with 't Hof, of course. This manifested itself in two ways: as a deejay he would choose a more specific direction and personality and he founded Ultrasonic (7), a soulful danceproject featuring vocalists Tom Derie and Nia Saw which scored hugely on a national level with the hit "Lips They Move" in 2003 and a couple of other smaller hit records. The group was 8 strong on stage, with very memorable sets on some of the biggest festivals in Belgium.

Club Of High Eyebrows

Club Of High Eyebrows
Too hard, too noisy | my show a five or ten | but the media men clap their hands | now you wonder. Nothing could better express the "do or die" mentality of Patrick Tilon aka Rude Boy than this prophecy from the Urban Dance Squad debut "Mental Floss for the Globe". Musical utopist and soundscape Argonaut, subtle altruist with the physique of a ghetto soldier, mysterious enfant terrible in the global pop skirmish. Patrick Tilon is no friend to soft tones, on stage a hardly describable inferno, on tape a conserved spectacle. CLUB OF HIGH EYEBROWS - the cryptical symbolism of the new idea is, and not accidentally, reminiscent of the wondrously bizarre facial expression of the Vulcan, Mr. Spock. Similar to the cosmoprominent son of Sarek, Patrick Tilon is at times just as astonished with his own doings as with the doings of others. Isn't it the critical distance to oneself that raises brows, opens eyes, tears down walls and bears the essentials? LINEUP ON "OLDER NOW": Silver Surfering Rude Boy Tylon - vocals Niels Tunesius - guitar, choir Jochem Van Rooijen - drums, percussion, glockenspiel Michael Barkey - bass, some guitar, organ, fuk, choir

HORMONIA

HORMONIA
Hormonia is thé hottest girl group in the world! These three fashion icons are all from Flanders, Belgium (obviously the center of good taste and class). Shania de Bie, Rani van Dessel and Audrey Verpooten have proven to bring pop music at his best and become role models for every self-respecting person in this cruel, cold world that we live in. With hits like "Sex in de nacht", "Kevin" and "Gij zijt nen John" they are here to stay. They also have produced touching ballads like "Haag&Das" and the song "Hapjes" deals about those lonely moments that we all have. Some people are said to recognize Tine Embrechts, Karlijn Sileghem and Nele Bauwens in this flamboyant trio but it's widely known that this rumour is spread due to their own jealousy and disbelief.
