Phife Dawg

Phife Dawg
Malik Isaac Taylor (born November 20, 1970, Queens, New York), better known as Phife Dawg, also known as the Five Foot Assassin and The Five Footer because he stands at 5 ft 3 , is an American rapper, and a member of the acclaimed group A Tribe Called Quest with high school classmates Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (and for a short time Jarobi White).

His MC alias, Phife, was named after the fife, a small flute often used in the military and in marching bands, changing the first "f" of fife to the phonetically similar "ph". Phife Dawg references the origin of his name in A Tribe Called Quest's song "Jazz", in which Q-Tip says, "And after the horns you can check out the fifer" (the "fifer" being someone who plays upon a fife).

In addition to being a member of pioneering hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest, Phife has performed in songs with other artists. He was featured on the Fu-Schnickens song "La Schmoove", Diamond D's "Painz & Strife" along with Pete Rock, and Black Sheep's "Let the Horns Blow" with Al' Tariq and Trugoy, among others. In 2000 he released his first solo LP, Ventilation: Da LP. Currently Phife is anticipating a second album titled Songs in the Key of Phife. He stated on Billboard's website that he would like to get Method Man, Faith Evans, De La Soul, and Redman, as well as his fellow ATCQ bandmates.

J Boog

J Boog
J BOOG's debut album, "HEAR ME ROAR", showcases his ability to display a multi-genre style that will captivate audiences worldwide! His eclectic blend of Reggae, R&B and Hip-Hop fused with "Polynesian Soul" and "street flare" will find its way into the hearts (and ears) of the most discerning listener and music enthusiast! The fact that J BOOG pours his heart and soul into every last lyric of his music is evident...his lyrical styling is superb, and will definitely change the role of Polynesian artists in mainstream music! With the exception of Marlon Asher's "Ganja Farmer", all of the songs on the album are original works; demonstrating J BOOG's creative prowess and ability to write with such a wide range of versatility...from powerful, rhythmic masterpieces to soft, melodious ballads. The legendary George "FIJI" Veikoso also lends his creative skills to the album with his vocal contributions, as well as handling the producing and arrangements for the music. Additional vocal, lyrical and arrangement offerings from Donald Malepeai, Moses "Mr. Sanga" Makaafi, Ernest "Goof" Saffings, "Zen", and Isaac "Sak" Pua help to conclude the incredibly diverse sound of this album. There is so much excitement and anticipation for the release of "HEAR ME ROAR"...as J BOOG sets forth to be "a powerful voice of the Polynesian people through music and positivity."

J Boog has become very famous in 2011 in the hit parades, with songs such as "Love season", "Sunshine girl" and of course "Let's do it again"

Tha Alkaholiks

Tha Alkaholiks
Tha Alkaholiks, also known as Tha Liks, are an American hip-hop group from Los Angeles, California. Since the early 1990s they have produced funky, upbeat, hedonism-themed party music with a hardcore hip hop edge, powered by the beats of DJ and producer E-Swift (born Eric Brooks in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) and the lively, comedic rhymes of J-Ro (born James Robinson in Los Angeles) and Tash (born Rico Smith in Cincinnati).

Though commercial crossover success largely eluded the group, they maintained a dedicated following on their native West Coast, throughout the United States and worldwide. In August 2004, the group announced their next album Firewater, originally scheduled for release in 2005, would be their final album.

But they are back together, recording a brand new album with beats from the Alchemist featuring the complete Likwit crew including King Tee, Defari, J-Ro's sun and Phil the Agony will be released in the early 2011.

As they have recently shouted themself; 'Tha Licks are back!'

SirOJ

SirOJ

Dj Lord Jazz

Dj Lord Jazz
The Lords of the Underground (L.O.T.U.G.) are a 1990s hip-hop trio based out of Newark, New Jersey. MCs Mr. Funke and DoItAll Dupré met DJ Lord Jazz (a native of Cleveland) when all three were undergraduates at Shaw University.

In their initial releases, their first two albums Here Come The Lords (1993) and Keepers of the Funk (1994), earned them an award from Black Entertainment Television in 1993. They collaborated with George Clinton.

Their reunion album Resurrection (1999), released via Queen Latifah's Jersey Kidz imprint, was so small-scale a release that few realized it had been recorded. Da Brat made an appearance on it.

Reverse, Adje & Jayh

Reverse, Adje & Jayh

Who The Fuck Is Ado'nis.

Pete Philly & Perquisite

Pete Philly & Perquisite
Vocalist Pete Philly and producer/instrumentalist Perquisite met up for the first time in 2002 in Amsterdam, where both were living. Perquisite, who also ran the Dutch indie now jazz/hip-hop label Unexpected Records, liked what he heard in the Aruba-born singer and rapper, and by the next year the duo had issued its first EP, MindState. In 2005 it was followed by a full-length European release, including a guest appearance from Talib Kweli. In 2006, MindState came out in North America and Australia. Rahzel

Rahzel
Rahzel, born Rahzel M. Brown, is an American musician. He is a hip hop MC who specializes in beatboxing (he calls himself a 'vocal percussionist'). He is probably best known as a member of The Roots. He is also called "the Godfather of Noyze". Growing up in the Bronx, Rahzel went to Grandmaster Flash's shows regularly and later became a roadie of the Ultramagnetic MCs. He was also influenced by artists like Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, Bobby McFerrin, Buffy of the Fat Boys, and Al Jarreau. Rahzel has expanded the art of beatboxing in a unique way, creating vocal beats while singing lyrics simultaneously, as is best displayed by his famous a cappella performance of "If Your Mother Only Knew" (an interpretation of Aaliyah's song "If Your Girl Only Knew") of which an MP3 is in wide circulation. Rahzel has been performing live with musician and vocalist Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantômas, etc.) as "Patton & Rahzel". Rahzel released his album Make The Music 2000 in 1999 on the MCA record label, followed by the 2004 release of the album Rahzel's Greatest Knockouts for Sureshot Recordings on which he collaborates with many other artists. In 2004, Rahzel collaborated with Björk and other beatboxers for her album Medúlla. His beatboxing skills are also featured on The Crystal Method's album Legion of Boom, in which he provides the vocals for the song "The American Way" and others on the album.

Redman

Redman
Redman (born Reggie Noble on April 17, 1970 in Newark, New Jersey) made his rapping debut on the EPMD songs "Hardcore" and "Brothers on my Jock", after Erick Sermon of the seminal group spotted him freestyling in a New York club and added him to their crew of aspiring emcees (along with K-Solo among others). Redman's 1992 Def Jam debut Whut? Thee Album broke into the US Top 50, achieved gold status in the United States, and prominent hip-hop magazine The Source subsequently named Redman Rap Artist of the Year for 1993. Redman's solo career continued throughout the remainder of the decade, with each of his albums selling at least half a million copies. His musical style has remained very consistent, rarely deviating from a combination of Redman's unique braggadocious wit and hard, p-funk-influenced beats. In addition to releasing albums under his own name, he is part of the group Def Squad (along with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon) with whom he released the 1998 album El Nino, and also has formed a close partnership with labelmate Method Man (of the Wu-Tang Clan) with whom he released the 1999 album Blackout!. The long-awaited follow-up, Blackout! 2, apeared in 2009. He has also collaborated extensively, both with hip-hop artists and with artists from other genres; the long list of artists and groups he has worked with includes Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, The Offspring, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Gorillaz, D'Angelo, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, 2Pac, Jodeci, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, KRS One and IAM. In 2001 Redman co-starred with Method Man in the stoner comedy film How High, which featured the pair playing two marijuana-addled students attempting to survive at Harvard. Method Man and Redman also appear in the Def Jam Vendetta video game series, often as Tag Team partners, and briefly had their own television sitcom, Method & Red, on Fox during the 2004-2005 season. Redman is also featured on the video game "True Crime: New York City", in which the central character interacts with an undercover street cop based upon the rap star, who also provides the voice for him. After forming Gang Starr with older friend Guru, whom he taught how to rap, Shug got into trouble with the law and went to prison. He has since been released, but Guru moved on to projects outside of Gang Starr. He released three albums by now, with his latest release in 2008 called 'Other Side of The Game'. He does a Friday night radio show from midnight to 2AM with DJ Premier on Sirius Satellite Radio on Hip-Hop Nation channel #40.

Dj Premier

Dj Premier
Christopher E. Martin (born March 21, 1966), better known as DJ Premier (and Premo or Primo as his fans, fellow musicians and critics call him sometimes), is a prominent American hip hop producer and DJ, and the instrumental half of the duo Gang Starr, together with MC Guru. Contrary to popular belief, he did not found nor even co-found Gang Starr. He was introduced to DJing while attending school at Prairie View A&M in Houston, Texas. DJ Premier's original stage name was Waxmaster C, the "C" taken from his first name, Chris, although he had already changed it to DJ Premier at the time he joined Gang Starr. Considered by many fans to be one of the greatest hip hop producers, DJ Premier has produced countless tracks, for many groups and solo artists since the early 1990s. These include notable tracks for artists such as Jay-Z ("D'Evils", "So Ghetto"), Big L ("The Enemy"), The Notorious B.I.G. ("Unbelievable", "Kick In The Door", "Ten Crack Commandments"), Nas ("N.Y. State of Mind", "Nas Is Like"), Pitch Black ("It's All Real"), M.O.P. ("Downtown Swinga"), Jeru the Damaja ("Come Clean", "My Mind Spray"), KRS-One ("MC's Act Like They Don't Know"), Mos Def ("Mathematics"), Non Phixion ("Rockstars"), and Royce da 5'9" ("Boom").(Full list: djpremiertrackology.8kilo.com) Collaborations Outside of Gang Starr, some of Premier's most lauded work is his collaborations with Jeru the Damaja and Group Home. With the former, Premier crafted one of the East Coast's landmark albums in the form of The Sun Rises in the East, released in 1994. Their follow up to this, 1996's Wrath of the Math, was regarded as a solid effort but not on par with its predecessor, although it did contain Jeru's biggest hit to date, "Ya Playin' Yaself". Group Home's Livin' Proof (1995), although greatly overlooked at the time of its release, has eventually come to be critically acclaimed. In 1994, DJ Premier collaborated extensively with jazz musician Branford Marsalis's experimental group, Buckshot Lefonque, for their debut album. During the making of music video director, Hype Williams' 1998 film, Belly, DJ Premier collaborated with neo soul leader D'Angelo for a song called "Devil's Pie", which was originally intended only for the film's accompanying soundtrack. However D'Angelo soon changed his mind and decided to include the song on his sophomore album Voodoo (2000) In 2006 he co-produced Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics album. Samples DJ Premier's style of production epitomises the New York sound from his earlier peers. He is known for sampling jazz, funk, and soul artists, as well as sampling an artist's past work, when he is creating a new track for that same artist. In addition, his photographic memory of rap lyrics allows him to distinctively "speak with his hands" by scratching in lyrics from several different songs to construct new phrases [1]. Premier's non-Gang Starr collaborations are well-known for his often-imitated signature of combining short vocal samples, often from multiple artists, to create a chorus. For example, for the chorus of Mos Def's "Mathematics", Premier cuts, in quick succession: "The Mighty Mos Def..." (from Mos Def's "Body Rock"), "It's simple mathematics" (from Fat Joe's "John Blaze"), "I revolve around science..." (from Ghostface Killah's verse on Raekwon's "Criminology"), "What are we talking about here..." (unknown origin), "Do your math.." (from Erykah Badu's "On & On"), and "One, two, three, four" (from James Brown's "Funky Drummer") On certain artists' work the vocal samples will all be vocal samples of the artist from the artists' past work; "Nas Is Like" and "2nd Childhood" with Nas are two well-known examples of this. On Jeru the Damaja's "Physical Stamina," however, Premier sampled and chopped up recordings of seminal electro-acoustic music from the 1960s. Melodies Premier usually creates a two-bar melody that repeats itself throughout the song. The aim of this is to showcase the MC's skills by bringing focus away from the beat, while creating the song's mood and a solid backdrop. Premier often changes speeds, filters and chops his breaks and adds scope to the melody with chimes and strings. He has also shown innovation by playing rarely-used elements into a rap song (such as the xylophones on Biggie's "Kick in the Door" or the ambient nature sounds on Nas' "Nas is Like"), and his wide range of instruments (the piano loop on Jay-Z's "D'Evils" versus the strings on Rakim's "New York (Ya Out There?") and production techniques (he played the melody backwards during the second half of Jay-Z's "A Million and One Questions (Rhyme No More)"). Drums Premier's drums have been known for complimenting his melodies. For example, during Nas' "NY State of Mind", two bars have a simple round of kicks and snares; in the following two, a complementing second set of drums plays out. This is repeated throughout. Label ownership and future projects DJ Premier currently owns two record labels. "Year Round Records" was founded in 2002 and has so far released several DJ Premier mixtapes as well as two 12" vinyl singles for NYG'z and Blaq Poet. "Works Of Mart", which is also the name of his publishing company, was founded in mid 2006 and released 12" vinyl singles for artists Tef (aka Teflon) and F.A.B.I.D. (H. Stax and Mike Rone). Since 2001, DJ Premier mentioned several times the plan to release a solo album entitled "A Man Of Few Words", which has yet to be released. Other confirmed upcoming projects are a full-length colaboration with Nas, Blaq Poet's long delayed album "The Best That Never Did It", Tef's (aka Teflon) long announced album "Contraband" and last but not least protegés NYG'z long delayed debut album "Pros and Cons". As of early 2006, like many other artists, he keeps in touch with his fans through his blog on myspace.com, on which he has announced upcoming productions for Amerie, Canibus and many other yet to be released artist songs.g Str

J.rocc

J.rocc
In 1992, Jason Jackson, internationally known as J.Rocc, launched his vision of forming a DJ crew comprised of talented musicians, by introducing to the world Southern California's first turntable band - the Beat Junkies. A prized accomplishment enthusiastically received by worldwide audiences, J.Rocc continues to invent musical styles that display his creative expertise. Highly recognized for his funky showcases and original arrangements, J.Rocc has clearly distinguished his place in music history. J.Rocc began his DJ career in 1985 with PSK, a DJ group based out of Huntington Beach, CA. Possessing the imagination and skills to alter the traditional purpose of the turntable, J.Rocc applied his artistic talent by using the turntable as his musical instrument. His individual approach towards developing his ingenious collections consists of focusing on smooth, rhythmic transitions and building an energetic vibe. Maintaining the entertainment level plays a major role in producing explosive performances, and J.Rocc achieves this excitement and dynamics without "killing" the original recordings. Heavily influenced by jazz legend John Coltrane, world-renowned Hip-Hop producers Dr. Dre and DJ Aladdin, and the departed Hip-Hop radio show on KDAY (1580 AM) featuring the comedic personality of Russ Parr, J.Rocc absorbed their influential contributions to help drive his musical genius. His striking list of awards and accomplishments demonstrates his excellent ability to apply his creative gift. Collectively, the Beat Junkie band comprised of J.Rocc, Babu, Melo-D, and Rhettmatic, claimed the title of International Turntablist Federation (ITF) World Champions two years in a row (1997 and 1998). In 1999, Rawkus Records seeked J.Rocc and Babu to join the talented cast of musicians on "Sound Bombing 2", a classic Hip-Hop compilation featuring internationally acclaimed artists including Pharaoh Monche, Mos Def and Common. J.Rocc and Babu greatly impacted the production of this project by exhibiting their exceptional turntable talent and musically powerful imaginations. J.Rocc continues to inspire worldwide audiences through his entertaining performances and showcases of musical creativity. In 1998, J.Rocc delivered his turntable brilliance and shared the stage with Hip-Hop phenomenons Talib Kwali and Mos Def during the U.S. Coca Cola tour, which included sold-out shows throughout the country. This past year, J.Rocc traveled nationwide with Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, MC Supernatural, and the Beat Junkie crew on the heavily documented tour entitled "Word of Mouth". J.Rocc's individual discography includes numerous innovations that continue to gain global recognition. In 1999, J.Rocc released "Live at the Sex Machine". This masterful compilation highlights J.Rocc's skilled application of the group's signature "Beat Junkie Style", in which he precisely blends the musical genres of breaks, Hip-Hop and reggae. In 2000, J.Rocc introduced a second volume to this successful project entitled "Sex Machine Today". In this latter release, J.Rocc continues to demonstrate his original style of producing illustrious musical arrangements, and repeatedly, is able to capture audiences stemming from diversified realms. As a leading figure in the media circuit, J.Rocc has appeared in all media outlets, both in the national and international markets. Feature stories in publications including the Source, URB, Rolling Stone, and Mass Appeal, highlight his unique achievements and untouchable musical expertise. J.Rocc appeared in the internationally respected film entitled "Keepintime" (2001), a documentary created to exemplify the parallel between the art of original drumming and the art of drumming using a turntable as the musical instrument. The film portrayed this relationship by capturing performances by legendary drummers Paul Humphrey, Earl Palmer, Roy Porter and James Gadson, as well as recording the drumming techniques of turntable drummers J.Rocc, Babu, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. In 2001, J.Rocc released a number of innovative individual and group projects. As the group's "Funky President", he played a major role in the production and delivery of the first Beat Junkie album entitled "Classic Material", which was released last August on the group's newly established, independent record label, Beat Junkie Sound. "Classic Material" features innovative tracks produced and performed by the Beat Junkie artists between the years of 1995 - 2000. Another notable project presented a collaboration between J.Rocc and fellow Beat Junkie member Babu, known internationally to the world as the Bumrush Brothers. Together, these talented musicians introduced two timeless masterworks entitled "Gold Chain Music" featuring Planet Asia and Evidence (Beat Junkie Sound), and "X-ecution of a Bumrush", a track from the X-ecutioners' album entitled "Built from Scratch" (Loud Records). In July 2001, J.Rocc released "Syndromes Remix", which hit record stores throughout the world and received international praise. This heavily demanded mixtape is a follow-up to his original creation released back in 1995. The audible recordings allow audiences to travel through a musical journey in which they are introduced to music legends, including Roy Ayers, Instant Funk, Minnie Riperton, and Grover Washington Jr. J.Rocc's most recent masterpiece was introduced to the world the latter part of March 2003. "Play This (One)" and "Junkies Pick" released on Stonesthrow Records, are classic compositions written, produced and conceived by J.Rocc. This highly anticipated record is just one of several projects J.Rocc is set to release in 2003. This year, the "Funky President" is poised to take-off.

Beat Konducta (born Madlib the Bad Kid 1922-1993) was an American comedian best known for his starring role on the television sitcom Quasimoto and Son. He was 3/4 African-American and 1/4 Blazed. Beat Konducta was born in Oakland and raised in Oxnard, During World War II, Beat Konducta used illegal means to avoid the draft and engaged in various criminal activities. Moving to Los Angeles in the early 1940s, he was a well-known associate of Malcolm Little, later known as Malcolm X. According to Alex Haley's The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Beat Konducta was dishwasher in the speakeasy where Malcolm worked as a waiter. While Little was known as "Detroit Red" from having grown up in Michigan, Beat Konducta was dubbed "Oxnard Green." Beat Konducta gained notoriety with his raunchy nightclub act. His stand-up performances were later released as "party" albums and became very popular. Beat Konducta paved the way for later black comedians such as Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle. He was one of the first black comics to play to white audiences on the Las Vegas Strip. Beat Konducta used his starring role on Quasimoto and Son to help get jobs got his friends such as LaWanda Page, Slappy White and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita. Beat Konducta also battled with producers for higher paychecks and creative control of the show. In 1977, Quasimoto and Son was cancelled. Beat Konducta struck out on his own by starring in a short-lived variety show, but by the early 1980s he was back playing Tha Loopdigga in a brief revival/spin-off The Further Adventures of Lord Quas. Beat Konducta has numerous battles with the IRS that culminated in a 1989 raid in which agents seized his house and assets (including some of the jewelery right off his body). Beat Konducta appeared to be making a comeback with a 1991 series in which he co-starred with his long-time friend Della Reese when a fatal heart attack struck him on the set. Ironically, one of Beat Konducta's best-known comic bits on Quasimoto and Son was faking a heart attack and calling out to his deceased wife Elizabeth saying, "This is the big one ... I'm comin' to join ya Honey." Beat Konducta has a star on the Echo Park walk of Fame.

DE JEUGD VAN TEGENWOORDIG

DE JEUGD VAN TEGENWOORDIG
De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig ("Kids These Days") is a hip-hop group formed in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 2005. The group is a 4-piece made up of Vieze Fur a.k.a. Vieze Freddie (Freddie Tratlehner), P. Fabergé (Pepijn Lanen), Willie Wartaal a.k.a. WiWa (Ollicio Locadia) and 'de Neger des Heils' (Bas Bron). They are known most notably for their chart-topping single Watskeburt?!, which then became Dutch slang for "what's up?!". In 2005 they released their debut album named Parels voor de zwijnen (pearls before swine*), featuring raps containing rather esoteric lyrics full of (partially made up) street language. With comical lyrics and an attitude telling they do not take themselves too seriously, they gained a unique position in the Dutch rap scene. Their main themes are alcohol, sex and drugs. All tracks on the group's debut album Parels voor de Zwijnen were produced by Bas Bron. Subsequent single releases include Voorjekijkendoorlopen ("Lookinfrontofyoukeeponwalking") and the Christmas-themed Ho Ho Ho (with Katja Schuurman). In July 2006, the group was featured on the song Poes in de Playboy of the Dutch reggae/ska band Luie Hond. In May 2007, they released the single Shenkie, for which a video clip contest was issued. The winning video can be seen here. Both singles were never released on album. Their second album, titled De Machine, was released on April 25, 2008, preceded by the single Hollereer on April 4. The album spawned six more singles: Wopwopwop (de tentbakkers), Datvindjeleukhe ("Youthinkthat'sniceuh"), Applaus, Buma In Mijn Zak, Bertje vs Yayo and Deze donkere jongen komt zo hard. * NOTE to the Dutch speaking members of last.fm: pearls before swine is the only correct translation of the proverb parels voor de zwijnen. Check Google hits, any dictionary or a bible near you. "Hip of hype? Of allebei? Bangg!

Method Man

Method Man
Method Man (born Clifford Smith, April 1, 1971 in Hempstead, Long Island, New York) is an American rapper and member of the hip-hop collective, Wu-Tang Clan. He is also well-known for his work both as a solo artist and with frequent collaborator Redman, as well as for recent forays into acting.

Method Man spent a childhood split between separated parents in Long Island and Staten Island, and in an apparent precursor to his career in hip hop was introduced both to playing drums and to

poetry by his father. Not only was Method interested in music, he was also fascinated by comic books and particularly Ghost Rider, a fascination which manifested itself years later in several of his many rap aliases. His pre-hip hop adult life was mostly split between drug dealing and low-paid jobs (including a stint working at the Statue Of Liberty, along with future Wu-Tang colleague U-God). After becoming well known on the streets for his rhyming abilities, he joined with 8 friends to form the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s.

Since the Wu-Tang Clan's ascendancy to hip hop stardom, Method Man has always been one of the most visible members of the collective. He was one of only two of the group to get a solo song on the group's debut album Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers and he was the first to release a solo album under the Clan's unusual contract which allows its members to release albums under any record label (Method chose to sign with legendary rap label Def Jam).

I was your host in clubs from the mid seventies at the age of 16. Starting with punk, old school rap and disco, I switched to Acid house playing it on Radio Centraal 107.6. I'm still searching the shops and the net for easy tunes, french pop, reggae, latin hiphop and Mash-ups. Playing records for more than 30 years in clubs, bars, parties, weddings, funerals, raves and open air festivals, I love sharing music from friends in Myspace. Feel free to listen to the weekly Radio show on Radio Centraal 107.6 on sundays 12-02PM when you're in Antwerp. And don't forget, I'm still spinning the wheels with humour on the places you like to visit (a rare combination in clubs).

Zopas verscheen (eindelijk!) de opvolger: Only Built For Cuban Linx 2, The Purple Tape.
