Jah Mason withthe Dub Akom Band - Irie Nation
Communicate love, revolution, spirituality and even sensuality!

In 2002 (tien jaar geleden) verschenen zijn eerste twee full albums Working So Hard en Keep The Joy. In 2006 maakte Princess Gone hem zowat onsterfelijk in reggaeland dankzij de gelijknamige hitsingle en de wereldwijde distributie.

No Matter The Time, Run Come Love Me, Lion Look, Don't Sell Yourself, Wheat and Tears, Someday, Life Is Just A Journey...: EACH ONE, TEACH ONE!

Reggae.be schreef toen:
"Het zijn zangers/singjays van zijn kaliber die Jamaica naar ons toe brengen, met hun compromisloze attitude, de stem rauw naar voor gemixt, botsend tussen wanhoop en mystiek. Om uiteindelijk op te gaan in liefde."

Jah Mason is backed by the Dub Akom Band.

Michael Rose

Michael Rose
For over 25 years, Michael Rose has been recording and performing his brand of militant, hardcore Jamaican music to the delight of reggae fans around the world. As a solo artist, with Black Uhuru, and back as a solo artist, the "Ruff" Rose has achieved great success throughout his career, even as different Jamaican musical styles have phased in and out of popularity.

Perhaps the highest profile recognition came in 1984, when Michael Rose and the other Black Uhuru members (Duckie Simpson, Puma Jones, Sly Dunbar, and Robbie Shakespeare) won reggae's first Grammy award for the album, Anthem. But the story doesn't begin with Black Uhuru. In 1976, Michael Rose was already a seasoned performer, having honed his skills by performing on Jamaica's hotel circuit. When an early incarnation of Black Uhuru (Ducky Simpson and Errol Nelson) approached Michael to join the group, he already had several solo singles to his credit. These include the original "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" and "Clap the Barber," both recorded for producer Niney The Observer, and "Running Around" for Winston Campbell.

Black Uhuru's first full length was released in 1977 and called Love Crisis. It was produced by King Jammy (then Prince Jammy), and the big hit of the album was "I Love King Selassie." But it was not until the Showcase album was released in 1980 - with a new lineup of Michael Rose, Duckie Simpson, and Puma Jones - that Black Uhuru reached their creative peak. Heartbeat reissued the set on CD (Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, HB 18), which includes the massive 12" singles "Shine Eye Gal," "General Penitentiary," "Plastic Smile," and of course, "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner." At the forefront of the recordings and live shows was the charismatic Michael Rose, who had incredible stage presence and a vocal style all his own. So popular was his trademark sound that singers like Don Carlos, Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, and others embraced it as the "Waterhouse" sound.

With lead singer Michael Rose seemingly at the top of his game, he parted ways with Black Uhuru, with the intention of redefining his musical direction as a solo artist. In the early 1990s, Michael Rose suddenly appeared on the scene with new material including Jamaican singles produced by Sly & Robbie ("Monkey Business," "Visit Them," "One a We Two a We"), and three albums (Proud, Bonanza, and King of General) released in Japan.

As a solo artist, Michael regularly tours the U.S. and Europe, and has maintained his Jamaican fan base with hit singles on the island and abroad. He is a modern roots singer, and fits perfectly into today's scene. With a glorious past and a wide-open future, Michael Rose is truly a reggae superstar.

Etana

Etana
Reggae music has birthed yet another rarity- a spirited and soulful singer/songwriter in the eloquent and enchanting empress Etana!

In the early 2000s, singer Shauna McKenzie fully recognized the power of music and its widespread influence, especially upon the youth; that realization prompted a seismic shift in her career trajectory. Living in Florida at the time where she was studying to become a nurse, she left college to join the female pop-R&B trio Gift. While shooting a music video with the group she defied the overly sexual stereotypes forced upon female artists and walked off the set, protesting the requisite attire of lingerie and stilettos and invasive camera angles. She returned to her birthplace, Jamaica, with the intention of opening an internet cafe but a fateful meeting with 5th Element Records, at the time the management/record label of reggae singer Richie Spice, resulted in her selection as one of Spice's backup singers and eventually, her own recordings.

She chose the name Etana, which means 'the strong one' in Swahili; her strength was manifested, this time around, by pursuing a musical career strictly on her own terms. Etana's elegantly modest Rasta-chic sartorial style is as distinctive as her sound: an audacious fusion of folk, soul, jazz and reggae supporting a powerful vocal range suggestive of the ancestral spirit of South Africa's Miriam Makeba, the regality of reggae queen Marcia Griffiths and the soulful verve of Etta James. "I looked at how women were being represented in (Jamaican) music and how little girls think that is the way it is supposed to be, and I wanted to be a positive influence and change some of the things they are taught," Etana reflected.
Ever since the release of her first single in 2007, "Wrong Address", which highlights the discrimination faced by some Jamaicans living in violence-plagued communities, followed by "Roots", which cautions the younger generation to maintain their culture ("you cyan water down and dilute, you cyan hide the truth from the youths") Etana has consistently wrapped encouraging and edifying sentiments in gorgeous melodies and lushly textured rhythms. Her debut album for VP Records "The Strong One" was released in 2008 to extensive acclaim while her sophomore album "Free Expressions" including her deeply emotional rendering on "Free", broadened her fan base.

From reggae and pop to rock and jazz, her musical influences are varied and though she is not one to subscribe to labels, Etana describes her brand of music as reggae soul - "It is straight from the heart, straight from the soul, straight from the people and everyday life".

Etana has also been an advocate and activist for impoverished children in Jamaica and battered girls through her charity organization the "JUST ONE FOUNDATION". Etana has been actively offering her services and time to various charity organizations in Jamaica, raising funds toward alleviating the problem of poverty in Jamaican garrison communities. A true ambassador for Reggae music and female in the music industry, she is relentless in spreading her message of "unconditional love" through positive music with the hope of uplifting her audience from any situation that render them weak or hopeless. Prepare yourself for the Etana Experience!

East End Rock

East End Rock

Drie daarvan (Free Jah's Cure The Album, The Truth in 2000, Ghetto Life in 2003 en Freedom Blues in 2005) releaste hij vanuit de gevangenis.

Siccaturie Alcock, p/k/a Jah Cure, is recognized today as "The High Priest of Reggae." From the age of three, music constantly reverberated through his small frame, slowly hypnotizing the souls of all those who listen to his voice of universal healing.

Born in Hanover, Jamaica on October 11, 1978, the young man with the voice of a canary snuck out of his bedroom window late at night to visit local dance halls and stage shows. At times, he also visited the annual Reggae Sunsplash shows in his community. At these shows, he saw the great Reggae icons performing ... Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffith, Garnett Silk, Yami Bolo, Jacob Miller and Black Uhuru ... and by the age of eleven, Jah Cure made the decision that he wanted to become part of that elite group. Becoming a reggae star and an icon was his dream and sole mission. Initially using the name "Little Melody," Siccaturie began his musical onslaught on the public. He soon became the talk of Jamaica and was well on his way to success. His voice started to leave an indelible impression in the streets, and at the age of fifteen, he moved to Kingston, where he met Capleton, Sizzla and Jah Mason. "Little Melody" was starting to fulfill his dream.

Capleton, the world renowned Jamaican artist, and the David House Crew later bestowed on Siccaturie the name Jah Cure ... primarily because of the vast amount of herb he smoked ... a daily custom of his Rastafarian religion. The symbolism was obvious ... the singer looked young and healthy ... and he was "well preserved," as in "WELL CURED," using the plants of the land for medicinal purposes. It was at this time that Cure became enlightened spiritually and his belief in living naturally became heightened.

Jamaican music icon Beres Hammond subsequently took Cure under his wing and began mentoring him in the studio and producing him. However, Cure's studio education and musical journey would be suddenly and unexpectedly interrupted. His growing success took a radical turn in 1998 when he was stopped and arrested late one night in Montego Bay. Cure was charged with four crimes, all of which he has vehemently denied. He has maintained his innocence to this day all through his arrest, trial and incarceration. A non-jury trial was convened, and Cure's lawyer unsuccessfully based his defense on the "Identification vs. Recognition" case law. Unfortunately, based on one victim's claim that she could not visually identify Cure, but he sounded like one of the perpetrators, Cure was sentenced in 1999 to 15 years in prison.

While in jail, Cure recorded and released several records, many of which topped the charts as # 1 singles. Two songs, "Jamaica," produced by DZ Productions and "Longing For," produced by Don Carleon, both hit # 1 on the Jamaican reggae charts and were international hits. Cure's first album, "FREE JAH'S CURE," was recorded in jail and subsequently released in 2001, approximately one year after he began his incarceration.

It is a project that has been lyrically compared to Bob Marley's "EXODUS." On that first album, Cure gives thanks for life while spreading love through his music. He believes his incarceration was Jah's way of teaching him humility, kindness, forgiveness and love for his fellow man. Consequently, he has forgiven all those who have done him wrong, and all those who have judged him unjustly and unfairly. While still in jail in 2003, Beres Hammond produced Cure's second album, "GHETTO LIFE," which featured the single "Divide and Rule." This song, a duet with Sizzla, was voted the best song of that year.

As Jah Cure's records saturated the airwaves globally, many took up the call for his release from prison. After many international appeals to the Jamaican government, eventually, after serving eight years in jail, Cure was released from prison on July 28, 2007. On the first day of his release and freedom from prison, Cure publicly stated that his only remaining goal for the rest of his life was to spread love and to promote peace and healing, universally through his music.

His first album upon his release from prison, "THE UNIVERSAL CURE," was released on April 14th, 2009. The album featured many of the reggae ballads penned by Cure himself while behind prison walls. The first single, "Call On Me" achieved international success reaching #1 on the reggae charts. With features from Junior Reid, Flo Rida & Mavado, the album received favorable reviews and served as Jah Cure's re-introduction to the reggae community after his incarceration.

Since then, Jah Cure has topped the music charts repeatedly with two other #1 singles. After the success from "Call on Me" featuring his label mate Phyllisia, he followed with "Never Find," and most recently the international reggae smash, "Unconditional Love." Cure's new album, "WORLD CRY," is his second recorded album since his release from prison. The album contains collaborations with Mavado, Pooh Bear and Jazmine Sullivan, crossing the reggae, hip-hop, Latin, Pop and R&B genres. It will be available digitally on iTunes on December 11th, 2012 and is scheduled to be shipped worldwide on January 29th, 2013.

Jah Cure begins his world wide tour starting in November, 2012. He is signed to SoBe Entertainment in Miami, Florida. His music is distributed by InGrooves/Fontana Distribution/Universal Music Group.

Droop Lion

Droop Lion
It is a special soul that can find within itself the capacity to forgive those who would take the life of one it holds dear. It is an even more remarkable spirit that is able to channel such feelings of loss and pain into a moving anthem of forgiveness. Meet Droop Lion, an artiste possessed of a voice teeming with sincerity and a mind suffused with curiosity.

His talent was recognized early but it would be a while before he would venture into the studios of Kingston to seek musical expression. Droop joined forces with Chiney K. Productions, and this collaboration would prove remarkably fruitful, spawning the haunting "Mama Soon Come"; the story of the murder of his mother. Droop Lion has demonstrated that special gift of addressing social commentary in a manner that is poignant without being inflammatory. He is now signed to the Florida based Mix-it Productions. Under the direction of Mix-it, he joined forces with ace Jamaican musician and producer Ervin "Alla" Lloyd and the results have been magical. The heavily rotated "Freeway" is an outcome of this incredible synergy. Droop has pledged to deliver his debut album with the Mix-it imprint in 2011.

Heartbeat Movement

Heartbeat Movement

High Grade Sound

High Grade Sound
High Grade Sound - the Antwerp Soundsystem in genuine Jamaican reggae dancehall style, with only one goal, to set the dance on fire under the motto High Grade Sound for High Grade people.

After several solo projects, High Grade Sound was founded in 1999 by Puppa Keith, General Bob and Svern Farhigh, under the wing of the legendary Far West Crew and Bong Productions. Perez, Junior High and J joined the crew and soon High Grade Sound evolved to one of the trendsetting sounds in the Belgian dancehall scene. After Kinja, the former MC of Mystic Breeze Collective had followed their footsteps, a successful change of guards became a fact in 2011. HGS keeps scouting young talents to pass their experience and secure the next generation High Grade sound-boys/girls.

Unforgetable passages at Festivals like Reggae Geel (2003/2004/2005/2007/2009/2013), Summerjam (Köln, Germany), Sfinks, Open Tropen, Afro Latino Festival, Feest in het Park, Laundry Day, Happy, Smile and many others are already on their palmares.

From squats and basement rooms, the Boomblast parties hosted by HGS, grew into a bimonthly venue, in the center of Antwerp city. Four hundred frenzied dancehall fans come together in JC Kavka to indulge in the exciting rhythms of Caribbean music. Both "rudeboys" and "sweet sexy ladies" are well served by the energetic duo Kinja and J. The rest of the organisation is in hands of the crew, supported by twenty volunteers aka High Grade Family.

Anthony B is the stage name of Keith Blair (born March 31, 1976), a Jamaican musician.

Blair grew up in rural Clarks Town in the northwestern parish of Trelawny. His deeply religious family life (his mother was a Seventh-day Adventist and his grandmother a Revivalist) imbued him with a profound spirituality. During his youth, his favorite singers were reggae legends Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer, musicians who strongly influenced his own style. Peter Tosh's influence can definitely be heard in Anthony B's vocal delivery and revolutionary stance.

Anthony B adopted Rastafarian beliefs as a teenager, a decision which was not well-received by his family. The stubborn and determined Anthony B refused to give up his new religion and his dreadlocks and moved to the home of his aunt and uncle in the Kingston suburb, Portmore.

While attending high school, Anthony B debuted as a deejay for the local sound system, Shaggy Hi-Power. In 1988, he befriended reggae artists such as Determine, Mega Banton, Ricky General and Terror Fabulous.

At this point in the reggae industry, singing "slack" songs about women was the popular thing to do. Anthony B did not believe in degrading women and chose to pen politically-slanted songs rather than so-called "gyal chunes." He hooked up with Little Devon the Half Pint sound-a-like singer he made his debut single "The Living is Hard" on the Wizard label in 1993. Anthony B tried many different producers but found that none of them fit his style of music. Finally, Anthony B teamed up with Richard "Bello" Bell, creating hits such as Fire Pon Rome, Raid Di Barn, Rumour, and Repentance Time. Anthony B's 1996 debut album Real Revolutionary was highly acclaimed in the reggae community. In late 1997, Anthony B released Universal Struggle which showed that Anthony B had a consistent, high-calibre talent. Anthony B has released a large number of albums since that time including 1999's Seven Seals and 2004's Untouchable which featured collaborations with artists including Wyclef Jean.

Anthony B tours extensively in Europe and North America and is known for his fiery, high-energy performances.

Anthony B is a member of the Bobo Ashanti branch of the Rastafarian movement. "Bobo Dreads", as they are known, are recognizable by their long robes and turbans. The strong Afrocentric pride and the other Rastafarian beliefs (or "overstandings" as Rastafarians prefer to call them) which Anthony B holds are reflected in his songs.
