Briskey

Briskey
Briskey is the musical child of Gert Keunen. With the new album Before-during-after Briskey has headed into a new direction: darker, slower and an even higher soundtrack-factor; but at the same time it sounds stimulating, pulsing and dynamic. cinematic postjazz. Cucumber Lodge (2003) and Scarlett Road-House (2006) showcased the unique synthesis of jazz and electronica, live instrumentation and samples and garnered a lot of attention from the press. Several tracks from these albums were licensed for use on compilations in the Netherlands, Germany, France (on the bestseller 'Saint Germain Des Prés Café'!), Portugal, Greece, Italy all the way to Brasil and even Taiwan. The Briskey live-band is formed with experienced players like Bart Maris (trumpet, Flat Earth Society), Nicolas Roseeuw (sax, Dolfijntjes), Isolde Lasoen (drums, Daan), Tim Vandenbergh (double bass, Sukilove), Sara Gilis (keys, Motek) and Dorona Alberti (vocals, Gare Du Nord). They bring the music to life and add a strong new dimension as well as a vibrant jazz-feel to the music. The Briskey live-band played a number of important clubs and prestigious festivals in Belgium (Ancienne Belgique, Vooruit, Blue Note Festival), the Nederlands (North Sea Jazz), Italy (Arezzo Wave, RomaEuropa Festival) and France (Jazz Sous Les Pommiers). In 2007, a Japanese label even decides to put out their own Briskey compilation. By forming the Briskey Big Band in 2007 the music received its perfect interpretation. Gert Keunen arranged old and new Briskey-tracks for a 15-headed band (see Live At Ancienne Belgique, 2008): a solid, contemporary big-band that has fire, strong rhythms and wild brass as its focal point. Not only is the Briskey Big Band the ultimate Briskey live experience, it is also a separate project that will continue to let itself be heard in the future. This big band enables the regular Briskey to explore new grounds. Before-during-after showcases a different sonic palette: more atmospheric and instrumental, filmic and especially: less ambiguous. Before-during-after sounds like a soundtrack to a film that has yet to be released. You can instantly imagine its dark alleys, nightly scenes, abandoned cities and dilapidated factories. At the same time the music suggests melancholy, hope and even moments of triumph. Before-during-after is the album Briskey had meant to make all along: uncompromising, suggestive and seductive. Captain Cheesbeard & 7 Sisters of Pr ...

Captain Cheesbeard & 7 Sisters of Prevention
About three years ago, after riding pygmy ponies for many hours at the Pygmy Pony Riding club and smoking a whole pack of Wellfields (these are very dodgy Togolese cigarettes, by the way) Capt. Cheese-Beard went into a trance and had a vision in which he was visited by his long-time idol Frank Zappa who died in 1993. The great man himself told the captain that it was clear that his oeuvre was at risk of being lost, as it was not being exposed to the music listening youth of today. This was of course totally unacceptable. Maybe it was the side-effects of the Wellfields, temporally disabling the captain's sense of reason, but during that cerebral meltdown he swore as a proud member of the pygmy pony riding club that he would do everything within his power to bring Zappa's music back to life. Of course this was easier said than done. The media, regulated for many years now by the central scrutinizer, the sort of person who smells of cabbage, hired by so-called friends of the music biz, wasn't going to be very receptive to the idea of putting the great composer's "subversive" music back on the air. To make things worse, the central scrutinizer's roll consists in making sure that the minds of our young consumers are continuously bombarded with tasteless, lukewarm, prefab pop. The captain, who by now had come back to his senses, realized he had to come up with a different, more daring plan. He decided he would find 9 other crazy musicians (preferably with prior pygmy pony experience) who would join him on a quest to go out there and attempt to play Zappa's music themselves. He scratched his beard, put his fingers up his nose and smelled that it was good. After testing many musicians' proficiency, dancing and pony riding abilities the band started to take shape and after many hours of rehearsing, so did the music. During a bizarre ritual that involved the smoking of lots of Wellfields, they decided to name the band: "Capt. Cheese-Beard & The 7 Sisters Of prevention", and there was much rejoicing. Being a ten-piece band it was the most obvious name, of course. One year later, after getting a really good feel for the music and creating a massive sound, the band played their first gig. Other great concerts followed in "Flaaaaanders & Wallooooonia". The reactions the band got from the crowds at the gigs and from all over the globe after putting some live footage on line was extraordinary and heart-warming. The response has given them the courage to continue this prestigious holy project and to keep fighting for their mission so that one day, after playing many infamous concerts, they can say that they made a positive contribution in keeping the music of the greatest composer the 20th century had to offer ALIVE!

We Seem To Have Misplaced Our Igloo

We Seem To Have Misplaced Our Igloo

Monica Electronica

Monica Electronica
Monica Electronica aka Emma Baas was born on the 29th of March 1978 in Delft, the Netherlands. At the age of 18 she moved to Rotterdam to live and to study at the school of Arts and graduated as an Art-Director in Advertising in 2000. During her study she bought 2 old record players, borrowed a mixer from a friend and threw parties at home. That's where her passion for music and dj-ing grew stronger. After her study she traveled around the world to dance as she was part of 'Aquarella do Brasil', a well-known Brazilian 'Rio de Janeiro- samba style' show ballet. After one year traveling the world for sambas, she started working for a film production company in Rotterdam. For two years she free-lanced as an assistant producer and assistant director. From '02 she became more active as a dj. She started playing every month in Club Stalker in Haarlem (NL) together with Estelle Decibel as a dj duo by the name: 'De Nachtzusters'. Her connection with Electronation really took her dj career a few steps further, the bookings started to roll and she started playing at several famous clubs in Holland like Now&Wow, Paradiso, 11, Nighttown, Off-Corso, and performed at many Dutch festivals (Awakenings, Dancevalley, Noorderslag, Lowlands, and the FFWD Danceparade) Autumn '04 created the Monica Electronica-buzz internationally and Emma started to travel around the world again but now to spin the wheels with gigs in Belgium (10daysoff, Groovecity, Culture club, Petrol, Café Capital) Germany (Berlin, Ingolstadt) Luxembourg, England (Leeds), Switzerland (Zurich, Scuol), China (Shanghai), Canada (Vancouver) USA (Seattle, NY), and in June '05 she made her first tour through Russia for 5 weeks, and traveled from Moscow to Siberia. Monica Electronica has a opinionated way of selecting and playing her music, her sets are electric with energy and vibe swinging thru Electronic genres to create a perfect dance floor atmosphere full of gutsy bass lines and underbelly beats! December of '05, Emma was selected with 29 other talented musicians, producers and dj's from all over the world to join the Redbull Music Academy in Seattle. This was a live-time experience and a learning period where Emma had the chance to upgrade her dj and producing skills.

Skatchou Bottos (B, live, ska)

Skatchou Bottos (B, live, ska)
The ska-band Skatchou Bottos was born in 2004 in Ghent. During a school excursion in the Ardens, a bunch of students at the faculty of Bio-engineer sciences came up with plans to start a band. The first six pairs of "Bottos" were put on by Hans (alt sax), Bos (keys), Bert (base), Rik (guitar), Frederic (voices) and Bastiaan (drums), who started practicing and working out songs every wednesday after school. Soon, trumpet player Koen and tenor sax Wannes joined the band and the first own songs were finished. After a short brake during summer 2005, the first small concerts arrived, at café Kosmic and at the Faculty. After a while, Bastiaan was replaced by Erik, and three new faces and instruments showed up: Pieter on trombone, Yasmin on voice and Ruben on the congas. The 11 Bottos were now complete and became very close friends. In 2007, a dazzling period broke down, with concerts in the Vooruit, the Bijloke, at the Student Kickoff, and first gigs outside the city of Ghent. In the summer of 2008, the Skatchou Bottos were on tour in Germany and played several concerts in Bremen, Braunschweig and Berlin. A first EP was recorded at the Galaxy Studios in Mol. The music of the Skatchou Bottos can be described as world music, influenced by rhythm, latin and reggae, combining Southern, Eastern and Western aspects. After more than three years, the Skatchou Bottos built up a strong live reputation, which was rewarded by several public prices.

DALE WATSON AND HIS LONE STARS

DALE WATSON AND HIS LONE STARS
Dale Watson & His Lone Stars: Don Pawlak, David Bowens en Gene Kurtz. Zijn vorige CD, "From the cradle to the grave", werd hooglijk gewaardeerd door critici en publiek. Nieuw werk is op komst.
