Mayer Hawthorne & The County, Dj Mehdi & Riton: Carte Blanche
New school soul, of zoiets. Singles Maybe So, Maybe No en Just Ain't Gonna Work Out zijn kleppers.

Spannend!

Drop The Lime, Hot City, ...

Dj Smos & Baby B

Smos and Baby Bee are a duo who started their DJ career in early '90s, when they were in the small group of DJs who were playing house music on the Belgian music scene. They made their DJ name famous thanks to their funky, uplifting style, which was based on deep vocal house, dubby grooves, percussive rhythms, early UK and US house releases and occasional electrofunk-disco classics. They became residents at Café D'Anvers in 1993, where they also played for Paradise and Natural elements from Patrick Socks and for many other parties which were organized at Café D'Anvers. In 2003 they were celebrating 10 years residency anniversary and you can still hear them playing there every second Saturday in a month, when they perform their famous long sets. Since 1998 until 2001 they were residents at Eskimo parties in Ghent, where they always did their 'trade mark' closing sets in the house room. In 2004 they released a maxi 'Dont stop' for Eskimo recordings under pseudonim Elastix and they also played at many other parties which were organized by Eskimo organization ( Belmondo in SMAK museum in Ghent, Culture club, 69, Diesel U awards . . . ). Between January 2001 and October 2003 they were residents in Motion room ( house room ) in Fuse club in Brussels. From October 2003 until September 2004 they played as residents for concept 'Colors', in Tijuana in Ghent and they also played regular gigs in Le Club in Lille ( France ). They played on many occasions in all good Belgian house clubs and many times abroad and they shared the decks with plenty of famous international DJ stars ( Kenny Hawkes, Silicone soul, Mark Farina, D'Julz, Freeform Five, Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon, Carl Craig, Jack de Marseille, Jeff K, Serge Santiago, Tiefschwarz . . . ). Every summer they've been also invited to play at some of the biggest open air festivals in Belgium. Baby Bee has been announced 'DJ of the month' in British I-D magazine from July 1999. They've been voted as the best Belgian DJs at 'Ticket nightlife awards 2001' and in 2003 as 'the best national house DJs' at Belgian dance culture website 'Partyguide'. They are currently the residents at 'Make up' club in Ghent, which is one of the recent projects from the Eskimo crew. The music policy is 'eclectic choice and space disco with soulful surprises' and so far they shared the decks with DJs like Baldelli, Prinz Thomas, Mark 7 and Aeroplane and Fredo and Thang. They also play as resident DJs at café Capital in Antwerp, where the music policy is also more eclectic and variable choice of dancing tunes. You can hear them there every third Saturday in a month, when they spin together with DJs like I-cube, Idjut boys, Jimpster, Dixon ... A new release on the "Eighttrack Recordings" label will be out very soon ( May / June 2008 ). This will be under our new moniker 'SMOBEE' and includes a moster remix by none less then Nick Chacona. You can already check the tracks on "www.myspace.com/smosandbabybee". So, keep to the beat and get your hands on a copy of "Eighttrack 014"!

CHELONIS R. JONES

Chelonis R. Jones is an American artist who left his home of New York for the shores of Europe, in order to pursue a blossoming career in the world of arts. Armed with his paintbrushes, unpublished manuscripts, songs and poems, he decided to commit himself fully to the vitriolic world of the struggling artist and their sometimes fruitful plight. Working as a songwriter and playing vocalist in more than twenty rock/pop groups and pulling a handful of small artshows for his paintings were hardly usual. 2001 he was introduced and signed to Get Physical Music from the start! His first 2002 release 'One & One', a collaboration with M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade, started the ball rolling. 2003 followed "I don´t know" which topped the Belgium Dance Charts twice and put the artist on the map, with thousands of broken hearts to respond and relate. At the end both singles became unforgettable house classics. 2005 ignited the self produced, controversial, lo-fi masterpiece "Disclocated genius" which also dons an original canvas work cover and until 2008 he worked with many giants of electronic music like Röyksopp to Oliver Huntemann and Corrugated Tunnel to Marc Romboy and many more, wow! After countless shows, featurings, dramas and mountain's to climb, 2009 is to be the moment for the long awaited new long player entitled "Chatterton".

Tiefschwarz

Tiefschwarz
Tiefschwarz are a German electro house group formed by two brothers, Ali Schwarz and Basti Schwarz in 1996. They performed deep house DJ sets in some of the biggest clubs in Germany and Switzerland as well as in major foreign cities and became increasingly popular in the house scene. Full bio Tiefschwarz was formed in 1996 by two brothers - Ali and Basti Schwarz - who have been successful DJs for over a decade. Peter Hoff, who runs the Benztown studios in Stuttgart, completes the Tiefschwarz production team. Ali and Basti came up with the name for their project after a DJ gig. Tiefschwarz, which is German for 'deep black', is a mixture of their last name, Schwarz, and their love for deep house. In 1990 Ali opened the "on-u" club in Stuttgart, which became a pioneer of the German club scene. Three years later came the "red dog" club, which quickly became known throughout the world as a top address for deep house. Here, resident DJs Ali and Basti played alongside the likes of DJ greats such as Tony Humphries, Master At Work, Frankie Feliciano, Mike Dunn, Mousse T, Matthew Herbert, Lary Heard, Chris Coco, Matthias Heilbronn and many others. Besides their work as resident DJs, Ali and Basti have been travelling together throughout Europe and overseas since 1995. They've played at countless major events and the most popular clubs in both Germany and Switzerland (Zürich, Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, Basle, etc.) as well as in major foreign cities, such as Miami (W.M.C.), New York, Washington, Melbourne, Sydney, Prague, Sarajevo, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, Rimini, Stockholm, London, Leeds, Sheffield, Ibiza, etc. After six years of DJing and promoting, the two brothers began producing their own tracks. They co-founded the "continuemusics" label in 1996, on which their first single, "24 seven," with remixes by Boris Dlugosh and Michi Lange, was released along with four other tracks. In 1998, Tiefschwarz signed a record deal with edel/benztown records. This proved to be a turning point in their career. Their first release, "music," featuring Joy Denalane of the hip-hop formation Freundeskreis, was not only a hit in Germany (9 weeks at No. 1 on the MTV Germany Dance Charts and No. 1 on Germany's Club Charts), but proved to be very successful in the UK as well. "music" was licensed to the famous "wave music" label in N.Y.C. run by François Kevokian and was remixed by Matthias Heilbronn. Tiefschwarz have remixed around 30 tracks for artists such as Ultra Naté, Byron Stingily, Jam & Spoon, Jennifer Paige, Randy Crawford, Master At Work, Earth Wind and Fire, Shakatak, Mousse T., AWA band, Whirlpool prod., Sabrina Johnson and Sharon Philips. The name Tiefschwarz stands high alongside other legendary German acts such as Boris Dlugosch, Mousse T., Knee Deep, Ian Pooley, Dixon, Jazzanova, Rainer Trüby, Ata and Vincenzo. As DJs, Tiefschwarz have gained a great reputation on the international house scene. Their debut album, "ral 9005", is a skilled and smooth voyage through their daringly diverse cosmos of musical experience. As varied as their influences may be, Tiefschwarz never fail to integrate their own, undeniably unique sound. "ral 9005" covers the spectrum -- from the playful excursions into Nu Jazz (mars, fusion I, fusion II) and the soul-filled deep house and garage tracks (there is, you, never, city-sounds, music) to 80s beats (springtime), down beat electro (follow me), soundtrack-style pop (bye bye baby) and kicking club music (no more trouble, acid soul, sky diving). This is all polished off by an intricate and powerful production. Their second album Eat Books includes the well known track Damage featuring Everything But The Girl vocalist Tracey Thorn

MOORE & LEZZ

Take some true electro, grab that fine techno. Add those floorfilling classics and hey, don't forget the fidget house! Moore & Lezz blends it all. This pair of producers sounds new to you? It shouldn't be, for Moore stands for Mr. Moore and Lezz, well, that's Komputerist. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Mr. Moore is no stranger to the rougher electronic styles. His intriguing sets have gained fame with the crowd. Ears are treated to a harmonic blend of minimal, electro and techno music, which can turn into an utter benefit for the event. Mr Moore played with several legends such as Mark EG, The Subs, Willie Wartaal Aka The Junkies, Frères Deluxe, Jack de Marseille, Swirl People, Smos and Baby Bee, and many more. Komputerist is on the same level as his companion. He gained his fame by playing as a warmup DJ for several major national and international DJ's. Think DJ Assault, Derrick May, Dada Life, Dr. Lektroluv and many others on the well-known events. Most recognizable about his sets is his diversity in styles. Techno, tech-house, electro and a touch of ghetto-tech are mixed fluently into his dynamic sets. Now, Mr. Moore and Komputerist have joined forces. They have their residence at the Kickerz events, bringing their diversity towards the crowd. New sounds are still to come, as Moore & Lezz are producing a lot, bringing their music to the highest level. Moore & Lezz: sounds like the perfect match.

SHIBBY BROTHERS

Moose & Lidl aka The Shibby Brothers originated at the House Blue parties at JH Spiraal. This concept, however, is no longer an item at the famed youth club, but instead gained a residency at the Playground events. They each started their DJ careers separately but soon came to realise that together they have the opportunity to fully unleash their talent. Because of their unique ability to produce steady but energetic mixes they are no stranger in turning the crowd to their advantage. Throughout their time as a DJ duo they have created a unique style which can turn the average party goer speechless. Their style can be defined best as a blend between house and electro, but to truly define how their sets look like you?d have to check them out personally. They are known to mix fluently and with total and utter perfection. They are available for booking separately, but to enjoy them to their limit it is advisable to unleash these guys as a duo upon the unsuspecting party crowd.

Carte Blanche

Carte Blanche
Het houseproject van dj Mehdi en Riton!

This is what DJ MEHDI told RITON when he invited him for a tour of the Chicago ghetto music he's been stashing for 3 years, waiting for the good moment to reveal.
And this is exactly what happened: British grand master DJ and producer Riton moved in, and wanted to never leave. He loved the House, they loved the House. They got married and lived very happily during the years 2009 and 10. Their brainchild was born, everybody welcomed CARTE BLANCHE.

Of course, they weren't the only ones. Ed Banger honcho Busy P snatched the mp3's that were bouncing back and forth accross the Chunnel for a soon release on the label. The result? Four tracks of neck-breaking breaks, a shout-out to the masters, but with no nostalgia whatsoever. And maybe a couple of (obvious) samples, ok.

DJ MEHDI has been foraying into all things black music since 1995. He made his international print in 2006 with the release of the LUCKY BOY album on Ed Banger, and been club-hopping worldwide ever since, touring with Justice and A-Trak, remixing Santigold and Busta Rhymes, as well as dropping his own dancefloor bombs in the name of SIGNATUNE, POCKET PIANO or I AM SOMEBODY.

RITON is Newcastle's finest, having made it from the Northern vibrations of Grand Central Recordings to being the most stable asset in the RADIO SOULWAX family and tour. His own street cred goes widescope, from remixing LCD Soundsystem and Crookers to breaking the number one spot in the Kraut Rock charts in 2008 with his EINE KLEINE NACHT MUSIK project on Modular Records. He's also a model, but you knew that already.

DJ MEHDI and RITON will tour as CARTE BLANCHE in May and June 2010, visiting all major cities in Europe and North-America. Four decks, one mixer, and a TR 909, of course. No bangers, strictly house music. Their first EP is set to drop on ED BANGER in May 2010 as well.

My guess is 'You gonna love the house' too,

Ed.

Radio Slave

Radio Slave
Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards No matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to Matt Edwards. As Matthew E he fashions club-based, dancefloor slayers. Under that aegis hes updated the classic Chi-town, sound beloved of house aficionados and layered it with fractured funk, belligerent, oddball beats and mechanical soul. If Matthew E is all about the Saturday Night Fever, then, by contrast, Rekid is the slower, more deliberate, rhythmical funk of the mid-week mayhem. Its well-intentioned muscular intensity making it perfect soulful sustenance. Quiet Village is something else all together. A collaboration with long-time musical sparring partner Joel Martin (a vinyl freak, like Mr Edwards, who works in esteemed auction house Christies pop department), its sample-based music which veers from drawn out disco-not-disco delirium to evocative, under-stated soundscapes. Sea Devils - you keeping up at the back - is undeniable electronic pop brilliance. Working with Tom from Cagedbaby, its the least niche of Matts projects and thanks to Sea Devils alluring pop dance grooves they will no doubt be shagging the upper reaches of the hit parade sometime soon. Last, but by no means least etc, etc, etc, is Radio Slave.

dj pierre

dj pierre
DJ Pierre can be considered one of the "founding fathers" of Acid House for his role in the development of the genre, specifically by being a member of Phuture, who released the 1987 E.P. Acid Trax which is considered by many to be the birth of Acid House. DJ Pierre's real name is Nathaniel Pierre Jones and his recording names include DJ Pierre, Phuture, Phuture Phantasy Club, Pierre's Pfantasy Club, Photon Inc. He was born in the suburbs of Chicago. Along two other artists (friends) known as Spanky (Earl Smith Jr -founder/technical producer) and Herb J (Herbert R Jackson Jr - keyboards) he formed "Phuture" and together they accidentally discovered/invented the acid house noise referred to as "squelch". Whilst trying to find out how to use the Roland TB-303 bass line synthesizer machine they had purchased they came out with the squelch sound that is the essential component for a track to be classed as Acid House. The three were inspired by the new House Music revolution that had emerged from their home town Chicago's mid 1980's scene where the Hot Mix 5 artists (Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Ralphi "The Razz" Rosario, Kenny "Jammin" Jason, Mickey "Mixin" Oliver and Scott "Smokin" Seals) were churning out hit after hit over the airwaves and tape and vinyl. Frankie Knuckles was DJing and the Warehouse club (where House Music is widely acknowledged to derive its name). Pierre and Spanky had been to the legendary Chicago DJ Ron Hardy's club called Music Box. The first Acid House track they recorded was 'Acid Tracks' (renamed by Ron Hardy from its original title 'In Your Mind'). A slow burning, bassy, heavy, deep, unrelenting record that plays for eleven minutes and seventeen seconds. Their first track was put on tape and first played in the Music Box in 1985 or 1986. From the overwhelming enthusiastic response from Ron Hardy (playing it several times on its first night) and (eventually) the crowd, it was rerecorded at Trax Records (produced by Marshall Jefferson) and released in 1986 being the best selling house track up to that time. From this adulation DJ Pierre went on to record a good percentage of the first Acid House tracks on Trax Records under the names Phuture, Phuture Pfantasy Club, Pierre's Pfantasy Club (with Felix Da Housecat), Phortune with notable underground hits such as Your Only Friend (Cocaine), The Creator, String Free, Got The Bug, Box Energy, Dream Girl, Mystery Girl, Fantasy Girl, We Are Phuture, Slam and Spank Spank. So the Acid House style was created by DJ Pierre and co. One of the tracks has a voice proclaiming "We are The Creator of Acid Music and we're back." But apparently the term Acid was probably coined by Ron Hardy. DJ Pierre always maintained that he was anti drugs and the track 'Your Only Friend' is most definitely has a very strong anti drugs message. Ron Hardy however was a well known party animal and drug user and perhaps the name acid was used as an LSD reference. Acid House is a very repetitive, hypnotic and trance-like music form which has a decidedly hypnotic, transcendental, psychedelic feel to it (most Acid House tracks would not have conventional lyrics on them but were either purely instrumental or only had samples/spoken rather than sung wording). Later as Acid House became more and more popular and successful with clubbers and ravers it inevitably became commercial leading to many copycat tracks that jumped on the bandwagon and had Acid House remixes as well as many recordings claiming to be acid house which weren't. For example D-Mob We Call It Aceiid. This song seemed to kill the credibility of Acid House with one swift blow. Acid House is the first true discernible offspring genre of House Music. (It even had its own dance called Trance Dance where arms held up in the air and are waved in time to the music either alternatively up and down, side to side like an orchestra conductor or swirling around mid air in front whilst the feet are jerked forward one at a time). It triggered the Rave phenomenon in the UK and the Acid House/Rave/M25 Orbital Parties including the 1989 Second Summer of Love and all its media hysteria in the UK (along with House / Hip House / Garage /Balearic genres that came shortly after it). Whilst Acid House was initially a relatively short lived House trend (from 1986 in Chicago and 1987 in UK to its demise in 1989/90), it first signified the ability of House to carry on through developing, experimenting, morphing and reacting rather than stagnating. Acid House is what initially kept House as a broad church alive and provided momentum for the House movement. Chicago House was perhaps running out of steam by the late 1980s and so the quick succession from House to Acid House kept it fresh and encouraged new House genres we know to emerge and flourish. This was all created by DJ Pierre's accidental style of House and Ron Hardy's brand naming it as Acid. The rest is history. So DJ Pierre's contribution was to innovate House and protect it by allowing it to change - even if this was an accident. Due to the notorious unfair contracts and deals given to the innocent DJ Pierre and other Chicago House artists, none of them owned their own copyrights. None of them realised that the music they were producing was been exported and licensed overseas where in gained its first foothold in Manchester, Nottingham and the north of England before spreading at a phenomenal rate south and going pan European and then global. Not realising how the whole Chicago House scene was infecting the world so rapidly, no groundbreaking artists made money from royalties as their whole world at the time was confined the hothouse energy of Chicago itself. DJ Pierre moved from Chicago where the House Music scene was slowing down and joined (among other labels) Strictly Rhythm records in 1990 where he was also briefly A&R manager. At this time he also went to the UK for his first visit overseas to witness how the house and acid house movement had proliferated and become so popular outside of the USA. Other hits he released since leaving Chicago include Generate Power by Photon Inc, Follow Me by Aly Us, and The Horn Song Featuring Barbara Tucker. He is still DJing and producing at time of writing December 2005. Chicago's own Trax Records website says that House is "the biggest movement in club music since the dawn of Disco". But for its overall globalisation (through accompanying advances in technology affordable to youth) and its longevity, House is probably more significant than Disco. Although Disco (along with other music types such as blues, jazz, soul, funk, rap, pop and electronica) is directly part of House's parentage. Some social observers have commented that the House movement is the biggest cultural phenomenon since Punk. But again Punk was relatively short lived from 1976 to 1980 before it became passé, compared to House that is still going strong since its birth in the mid 1980's. While punk appealed mainly to white, lower and middle classes, House's appeal is undeniably more far reaching and Catholic. Twenty years after the start of Punk, the name was already a joke and meant nothing to youth of the 1990s apart from a historical event or a general term of derision - certainly not cool. House decades after its dawn is still going on and being played in clubs, on the radio and used by mainstream pop artists. Only time will tell the verdict. But DJ Pierre by creating Acid House is certainly one of the pivotal individuals responsible for spreading House's immense scope.

DJ T

Thomas Koch aka DJ T. / Biografie Thomas Koch aka DJ T. has been a vital part of music and club culture for more than 20 years, during which time he has built up a reputation in a range of different capacities: DJ, label owner, producer, event organiser, club operator, publisher and journalist. In 2005, he relocated to Berlin, where he's been living and working ever since. Blame it all on the disco ball. Born in 1969 in the city of Dusseldorf, at the tender age of nine Koch succumbed to the seductive charms of black wax. By this time, his family had moved to Frankfurt, and disco had reached its zenith; Koch's parents plied him with early vinyl compilations, triggering what would become a serious and lifelong collecting streak. T.'s burgeoning obsession went beyond disco and hi N-R-G - Village People, Donna Summer and Evelyn Thomas were soon followed by early rap music (via Grandmaster Flash) and finally - from 1983 - electro funk and its seminal protagonists Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Patrol, Newcleus and Mantronix. Their tracks had everything Koch craved: glam, funk, beats and bass. They were the soundtrack to a new dance culture. For Koch, this was love at first sight and he decided to take up breakdancing. Until this day, many of DJ T.'s own productions preserve the musical spirit of this period. Some loves do last forever. Koch's career on the decks began with trial stints at private parties back in 1986, which were soon to be followed by his first professional gigs at his own nights in Frankfurt club Nouvelle a year later. He adopted the pseudonym DJ T. - a moniker he retains to this day. Early fare on his turntables: black music in all its variants. Spinning at a range of different clubs in and around Frankfurt, T. soon found himself swept away by the powerful acid house wave that hit the city with the opening of Sven Väth's Omen in 1988. Koch switched to straight beats to move the crowds with early house, EBM and techno tracks, followed by his first residency at Frankfurt's seminal Music Hall. Throughout the 90s, he played almost all of the city's essential clubs, including extended stopovers at Plastik, Dorian Gray and The Box. By now, Frankfurt, one of Europe's foremost epicentres of electronic dance music, has become indelibly linked with the name DJ T. Towards the end of the millennium, after a decade of experience organising major events and club nights, Koch felt the urge to make his own vision of a club come true. In 1999, he, Patrik Dechent and others opened their own venue Monza, an intimate and cosy little club situated right in Frankfurt's city centre. In his capacity as DJ and the one in charge of the club's overall musical direction, Koch played a decisive part in shaping the profile of this hot-spot as well as that of its Ibizan satellite events for the next five years. Impressive names like Steve Bug, DJ Hell, Ricardo Villalobos and Tiefschwarz were among the venue's welcome and frequent guests. Run without Koch since 2004, Monza continues to claim its place among Germany's foremost clubbing locations; operating from its Ibizan offshoot, his former partner Dechent strives to extend the club's sphere of influence all over the globe. Moving back in time: In 1989, Koch founded the influential German-language magazine Groove. To this day, it remains Germany's most important and high-quality publication for the electronic aspects of life, alongside De:Bug. According to Koch, it was all about "creating a magazine that would meet my own needs. I assumed there were many others with similar needs out there." And history proved him right. Besides serving as Groove's publisher and editor for fifteen years, he has also contributed to anthologies on club music, among others Localiser 1.0 and Techno. In 2002, Koch and friends decided to start their own label, Get Physical Music. Within ten single releases the label had gained a worldwide reputation, its popularity and fame spreading well beyond its Berlin base - reaching #4 in the annual Groove reader's poll of their favourite labels in 2004, Get Physical also claimed the coveted 'label of the year 2005' award from British clubbing bible DJ Mag. Ever since, one would be hard-pressed to find a single techno/ house DJ around the world who does not reach for at least one Get Physical track when things get hot. Featuring six seasoned veterans of electronic music and club culture, the label collective also includes DJ and production team Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung (otherwise known as M.A.N.D.Y.) as well as producers and studio owners Booka Shade (Walter Merziger, Arno Kammermeier, Peter Hayo). Focussing on A&R, among other responsibilities, Koch tirelessly scours the scene for new talent and takes care of those already signed and their current productions. And yet, besides all these other activities, Koch still finds the time to pursue his own artistic endeavours. 2000 saw the release of his first production with 'Monsterbaze', a Steve Bug co-production on the latter's Pokerflat label. To this day, in addition to releases on Moodmusic, 20:20 Vision, Pokerflat and Kindisch, Koch has put out a total of sixteen 12'' singles on Get Physical. In 2005 he unleashed his first album Boogie Playground, a reverential and reference-laden piece of music paying homage to T.'s own past and all those strands of early club music that had shaped his future path. Conjuring the moods that gave classic funk and electro as well as disco, italo and acid house records their good name, Boogie Playground wrapped them all up in contemporary sound design. In addition, Koch's talents as a remixer have not gone unnoticed. His interpretations of acts like Spektrum, Mylor or Newcleus plus remixes for labels like ArtofDisco/ Yellow, 20:20 Vision, Simple and Naked Music have moved critics and crowds alike. In 2006, Berlin daily TAZ commented on his first commercially available DJ mix, Body Language Vol. 2: "Koch combines tracks from the most varied of genres...triggering the most disparate of euphoria-soaked locations, he touches on the different waveforms of twenty years of party bliss". Whether somewhere in Europe or on one of his extensive tours of North and South America, Australia or Asia, T.'s sets are invariably stirring and extraordinarily varied. Koch is most certainly no 'style fascist', but rather something like a bass and groove-addicted club historian with a firm grasp of the contemporary. His sets turn 25 years of electronic music history into one fine, homogenous blend, reminiscent of expansive narratives that transform the significant links between genres and ages into a truly physical experience. Yet despite all this inherent party spirit, Koch also knows how to send 6am crowds into veritable danceathons - as anyone who's heard him play at Watergate, Panorama Bar and Bar25 will attest. Spring 2009: four years after his debut Boogie Playground, DJ T. returns with his much-anticipated second studio album, The Inner Jukebox, a singular and accomplished set that reflects its maker's ongoing interest in rigorously re-inventing classic sounds for modern ears and dancefloors. A co-production with Thomas Schumacher, who used to helm Elektrochemie and now produces acclaimed solo material for Get Physical, The Inner Jukebox is an assuredly mature work, but is notable also for its youthful exuberance and confidence. The Inner Jukebox is not just a mere succession of club tracks, but it is again alive with narrative structures that tell a story, showing a deep respect for the history of electronic dance music and what has gone before. While Boogie Playground was an exploration of T.'s 70s and 80s influences, The Inner Jukebox draws inspiration from the 90s and is a more focussed adventure. So much house around right now is really just glorified minimal techno, vibe-killing in its meticulousness; by contrast, the tracks which comprise The Inner Jukebox are bold, vivid, expressive. They're cerebral and carefully crafted, yes, but more importantly they have a bounce and a sexiness to them - also not exactly a hallmark of current house music. T. has always sought to make proper, no-nonsense dance music with real groove at its heart - and The Inner Jukebox finds him fully realizing that ambition. This is no concept album - it's about quality dance music that will sound great in the club, the car, the home, wherever. So put another dime in the jukebox baby... Hot City

Hot City
Due to their unfeasibly low attention spans, and bored of trawling the earth looking for new human producers, the friendly people at RAMP opened their cybernetic research department, to create new and exciting robotic producers. First, they made a rave robot, which predictably they grew bored of. They then went onto make a 2step robot, which again, they grew bored of. Upon relaising that cybernetics and robotics was no the way to feed the void boredom created, they disguarded their robots in the ditch behind the office.   The two robots began talking, and quickly sparked up a friendship. One night after drowning their sorrows with many Peach Daiquiri's, the two robots fell into each other's arms and had hot drunken robot sex, and 2step robot fell pregnant. Nine months later, there was a tap on the RAMP Recordings back door, followed by the patter of robot feet running away. Upon opening the door, they saw a basket, containing a robot child and a note, which read:

MERDAN TAPLAK

MERDAN TAPLAK
Merdan Taplak, born in Antwerp and raised Asianly, is without doubt the next big thing in the Belgian and European deejay scene. Rocking all stages of all major festivals in Belgium, Merdan Taplak is hitting the crowd and he is hitting them hard.

Often referred to as "the Bosphorus%u2019 third bridge", he creates a new world with new sounds through melodies from across the globe, passionately reconciled into electronic worldgroove. Like a Turkish grocer, trafficking in sounds. A fresh shop, always discovering new flavours which take you by surprise. You won%u2019t believe your ears. Not even mentioning your legs.

Merdans international acclaim is growing steadily, due to his energetic dj-sets and upcomming electro-world productions. His latest single, "MARCH OF THE SULTANS" is supported by lots of worldmusic deejays, worldfamous deejay Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio One) called it "a festival banger!". The track has been compiled on the infamous "BALKAN BEATS" compilation by Robert Soko. The METISSE EP covers both sides of Merdans musical spectrum: a heavily electrified track topped with african vocals, an absolute floorfiller.

Merdan is highly positioned as a deejay/producer but he keeps on going. Attending every (world)music festival, he is acknowledged by international connoisseurs as one of the rising stars in his genre. From New York to Vienna, from Brussels to Berlin, Merdan Taplak mashes it up globally!

I was your host in clubs from the mid seventies at the age of 16. Starting with punk, old school rap and disco, I switched to Acid house playing it on Radio Centraal 107.6. I'm still searching the shops and the net for easy tunes, french pop, reggae, latin hiphop and Mash-ups. Playing records for more than 30 years in clubs, bars, parties, weddings, funerals, raves and open air festivals, I love sharing music from friends in Myspace. Feel free to listen to the weekly Radio show on Radio Centraal 107.6 on sundays 12-02PM when you're in Antwerp. And don't forget, I'm still spinning the wheels with humour on the places you like to visit (a rare combination in clubs).

Dave Angel

Dave Angel
Born in Chelsea, the son of a Jazz musician, Dave Angel's first musical instrument (appropriately) was a drum at the noisy age of eight. Not one for conforming, even at the early age, Angel spent little time in school, preferring truancy to chemistry and the music room to the classroom. 1988 and the explosion of acid house in London and the rest of the country seemed to be the major break for Angel, who at the time was pioneering this unbelievable new sound on radio Phaze One. A well known pirate radio station in the capital. The technological explosion which was to rock pre conceived musical conceptions established the young DJ who found himself proclaimed as One of the major techno talents in Britain.(Echoes March 1992). DJing formed a natural progression into the recording process and two weeks recording at home with two basic turntables and two tape decks and a child Casio keyboard (yes a child's!!) in 1989 bore the fruits of his first musical excursion a remix of The Eurhythmics Sweet Dreams somewhat controversial but eminently successful. Angel's reworking of the track created such a massive buzz in the clubs that RCA were forced to officially release the track and incredibly it charted and climbed to No 23 in the UK National Charts first time round. Since this initial success Dave has not lost his drive to create music which continues to be regarded as some of the bravest and influential dance music this country produces. Heavily influenced by the Detroit sound he has subsequently released singles and Ep's of astonishing quality for Polydor/Love, OuterRythum, Fnac, Island, R S, Outrage and Apollo imprints, all of which have sold well and received a barrage of critical acclaim. Dave was also solely responsible for the Classic Sea's Of Tranquillity EP which was hailed as a landmark release by the Techno intelligence. Notable remixes include work for such luminaries as Orbital, Sun Electric, Carl Cox, Robert Armani, Juan Atkins, Spooky, James, 4hero, Roni Size, Underworld. The list goes on and on...

dj MUJAVA

dj MUJAVA
DJ Mujava's real name is Elvis Maswanganyi, he's 21 and hails from a Pretorian township called Attridgeville. He got his break when taxi drivers - who had heard him play on community radio and act as independent grassroots music distributors in South Africa's urban townships - started spreading his sound in their cab stereos and selling CDs they had acquired from visits to his house directly to their customers accross Pretoria. His popularity grew and he eventually signed with a well known South African dance music label. Up until now however, he's not released anything outside the country. DJ Mujava's formula on Township Funk's is simple. It's tough, dark, African dance music from the industrial city of Pretoria, South Africa. It's perhaps the most infectious dance record you'll hear this year, echoing the early Warp sound of LFO or the Forgemasters in an uncanny way, almost 20 years on, across continents. Township Funk was released by Warp Records (and This is Music Ltd in the UK) on september 15th.

TOMAZ

TOMAZ
The musical roots of Tomaz sprung from his father's collection (ranging from classical over country to French chanson and pop music) to the new wave and rock scene of the 70's and 80's. This was his sole inspiration for his early Dj days. It wasnt long before he started to introduce the first house and techno tunes to those wave/rock parties and the Belgian airwaves on local radio stations. His obsession for music drove him towards a job at the BCM (now Enterprise) record store, where he still works today guiding music-crazed lovers through the musical jungle. In the late nineties Tomaz took it to a new level when he gave a first shot at production with Kobbe. That was the birth of several 12"es on labels like Re-Load and Future Frontier. Next in the line of production were the successful collaborations with the Filterheadz ("More House", the latin techno hit "Los Hijos del Sol" and the major worldwide clubhit "Sunshine" on Carl Cox' Intec label). "Sunshine" is one of the best selling singles on Intec and is still being re-pressed today, 4 years post-release. This was the moment when Tomaz moved from the local radio stations to the Belgian national radio Studio Brussel where he became the techno programmer for the weekly show Switch. The show has just started its sixth season and continues to bring the best electronic music to an international audience. Alongside techno, Tomaz also programmes future hits and best classics on the same radio show. 2005 saw the release of the follow up single to "Sunshine". The Saturn Moons EP once again proved the musical diversity of Tomaz. After the latin flavoured releases, "Titan" is a dreamy, string-fuelled anthem, that like it's predecessor, is played by all the big names, whether they are techno, house or trance dj's. The future will bring more collaboration with the likes of Stanny Franssen, Sam Ostyn, Redhead, to name a few.

I started mixing my favorite music in psychedelic cocktails back in 2001 and since 2003 play in the Belgium psy scene on regular basis. My style can be described as psy/progressive trance/house with a new love for minimal techno. I also organises parties under the guise of Smiley Tribe with my partner in crime Icedrop ,it started back in 2003 with a birthday party called Psychedelic anniversary wich now is our annual birthday bash. The Glimmers

The Glimmers
Back in 1987, Mo & Benoelie were DJing for Ghent%u2019s youth every weekend, playing all sorts of music which was loved in those days. Back then they already reasoned that they should never shut themselves off from any style of music, that every blend, every genre, every movement was theirs for the taking. At first, they were being turned on by the strange and experimental sounds coming from the city's Boccaccio club. Over there, 12-inches were purposefully pitched down and extended, the result being a deep, metronomic, groove-laden experience, which later would be labelled as Belgian New Beat. Also back then, they made their first trip to Ibiza. Seeing Alfredo playing early electronic stuff mixed with all sorts of pop and funk at Amnesia, Mo & Benoelie really got hooked. Always open to new musical revolutions, they adapted all these sounds and experiences and took them to their new 300 capacity residency called the Fifty Five where they were playing every Saturday marathon sessions from 10pm till 8am. A couple of years later, when there was only house music being played in clubs, Mo & Benoelie were being seen as the %u2018outsiders%u2019 in the Belgian club scene. They played "other" stuff inbetween. They were not afraid of mixing stuff like The Residents, or The Cramps, or even campy disco inbetween the "popular" 4/4 house & techno music. Soon they started to develop a loyal following, which would later result in a new scene in Ghent's diverse but booming nightlife.

Guy Gerber

Guy Gerber
The man responsible for those ends of night moments on some of the most respected dance floors across the globe over the last twelve months is more than likely Guy Gerber. As cited last summer in the UK dance floor bible; Mixmag, his universally embraced single on Bedrock Records Stoppage Time became the stand out anthem of the year at the likes of Cocoon at Amnesia, and Dc10 in Ibiza along with Secretsundaze in London. The single has surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales and continues to shift by the truckload and to appear on numerous compilations from artists as diverse as BPitch Controls Kiki, Francoise K, Wally Lopes and Sven Vath. Last summers success looks like being just the tip of the iceberg compared to the current buzz on Guy. First up is This Is Balagan. As the first part of a three single deal with Cocoon, the single has already been described by Sven Vath as the tune of the 2006 Ibiza summer season and who are we to argue? Follow up singles Sea of Sand and After Love alongside a remix for Dominic Eulberg are sure to make Guy one of the hottest producers in the techno scene. The coming months will also see new singles on John Digweeds Bedrock and Satoshi Tomeiis SAW imprints respectively, not to mention Guys own Supplemental Facts label promising further singles, many of which have a good shot at nomination for tune of 2006 come the end of the year. By now you might have guessed hes a production machine! As a touring artist, Guy has embraced the Ableton software to create a unique DJ experience rocking festivals across the world from MUTEK in Montreal, Sonar in Barcelona, and Gods Kitchen in the UK. Upcoming shows across Europe alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Tiefschwarz and Mathew Jonson will put him in the premier league of touring artists before the year is over. All this success may have been a surprise to Guy if you told him when he was 15 how his life might turn out. As a member of his native Israels Under 16s national football team, he started to play guitar and very quickly his love of football was replaced by an obsession with music. Listening to bands like Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Soft Cell, and The Beach Boys, Guy established a unique understanding for music that has informed his musical development, and from which flows his unique sound of bittersweet harmonies, natural mixture of strong and deep grooves, and futuristic bass lines. Awards in his homeland have come thick and fast with him collecting Israeli Music Associations award for The Best Israeli Electronic Artist" in 2003, while Israel's MTV and leading dance music magazine awarded him "Best Electronic Producer" in 2003 and the award for "Best Export Artist in 2005. Guy has also received acclaim in his homeland for his composing for contemporary dance arts in Israel, working alongside the world-renowned choreographers Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. While Guy may have quickly risen to prominence since his first single in 2002, with product on labels as varied as King Street, Kinky Vinyl, Alternative Route, and Bedrock, and becoming a darling of the compilation market for the likes of Ministry of Sound, Renaissance, Global Underground and Cocoon, he is excited about what the future holds for his upcoming projects and touring opportunities. Disorientation is Gerber's first solo EP release since his Belly Dancing EP last year on Cocoon Recordings, taken from his Late Bloomers.

Captain Luke (Shameboy)

Captain Luke (Shameboy)
Capt. Luke leeft als veelgevraagde drummer (o.a. Zomaar. Capt. Luke draaide al in Zuid-Afrika, Spanje, Duitsland en verschillende bekende clubs in België.

Juice Blender

Juice Blender
For well over a decade Juice Blender was part of a Ghent based deejay duo that was formed in 1995- adequately named Juice Blenders! In the early days they played mainly eclectic sets with a lot of funk, breakbeat and house influences. Continuing on this path, they got to know the work of people like LTJ Bukem and Photek - and were absolutely blown away by it. This style of drum and bass was really welcome at a cosy venue called Sous Sol, where they established their first Thursday night residency. Around the same period, late 96, they started the radioshow Liquid Flavaz, on Urgent FM, which is still running today. Their first breakthrough for a larger audience came in 1998, when they were asked to play at the legendary Eskimo parties. After proving that they could easily rock bigger crowds, bookings followed for the D&B room at various raves and festivals. Meanwhile they also became residents at the Decadance club (nowadays, this is know as the Steam sessions on Wednesdays). In the year 2000 one of the guys took over Fried Chicken Records, a store specialising in drum & bass releases. The shop became an important meeting place for the up-and-coming talents and the established deejays in the scene. However, it turned out to be all but profitable, so in 2004 it was time to move on. Meanwhile Nico JB started working as a promoter for Democrazy and was able to take the party concept Mystic to a higher level, together with another DJ team from Ghent: Dobe 'n' Daze. To date Juice Blender has played at nearly all the major events in Belgium and occasional gigs in the Netherlands. In April 2005 he was exposed to a worldwide audience in the Breaking New Talent feature on BBC radio 1Xtra. Also, J.B. has established a recording studio called Blender Productions, where he delivers mixdown/mastering for upcoming acts such as Stan & Mook (Soul:R). Various productions are in the pipeline... By the end of 2006 Juice Blenders, in plural, are no more. Long live the Juice Blender! Since the start of his solo career the sounds have become more subtle, leftfield and personal. The focus is now to present the drum & bass genre as a true artform that will continue to push boundaries across the globe!

METROBOX

METROBOX
Musician in heart and soul. He started his musical journey at 7 by playing the flute, to add guitar and bass a couple of years later. After some experiments in funk and rock bands, he got into DJ-ing as Vice. Through latin and soulful house, he arrived were he likes to be nowadays: the no-man%u2019s-land between house and techno, where sounds and beats are warm and energetic. Residencies (past & present) in Housenation Antwerp, Fairytale Café d'Anvers, Tijuana Ghent, ... Recently, Metrobox threw himself into producing which resulted in a first EP, released in April 2007. Sounds like: detroit-chicago-french-german-techno-house! Already got loads of support and charted by: Tiga, Rolando, Carl Craig, Santiago Salazar, Moguai, Avus, Fra (Ferenc)...

RAKESH

RAKESH
My name is Rakesh Thielemans aka dj Rakesh or Black Jack. Why the strange name? I%u2019m originally from India where I was born in 1973. Adoption in 1977 brought me to Belgium where I still am today. I started fooling around with music at a very young age. While learning piano and battery I was very busy discovering a wild range in music and making tapes. I listened to Prince, Michael Jackson, Wham and James Brown, loving the funk and the genuine eighty tunes such as Grand Master Flash, Breakmachine and many more%u2026 When I was fifteen I officially started out as dj. Always very involved in the music scene through investing in records for parties and organising performances with Elmer Food Beat, Yellowman, Urban Dance Squad and many more. Anyway, today I am a full-grown dj with a great love for the profession. I have seen and been in a lot of places and my style is eclectic just like my experiences.
