Palmbomen

Palmbomen
Palmbomen appropriately delivers a tropical escape from the mundane. Kai Hugo's music is as experimental as it is contagiously poppy. Haunting vocals and hypnotic synth lines produced by desolated studio equipment create an atmospheric sound that, according to somewhere between 80%u2032s italo and 60%u2032s psychedelia. A custom built quasi epileptic light show completes the sensation of being lost in a neon Amazon forest. Kai's debut 'Moon Children EP' is out on NON Records and showcases the uniquely eery sound of Palmbomem. Vice Magazine had this to say about one track in particular off of the release: "He made a song called 'Myself' that iTunes says we have already listened to 46 times"

Benton

Benton
Benton is unquestionably one of the top up and coming Dubstep producers hailing from Epsom (UK). He has been producing since 2007 and is tipped for great things in the coming years. His tune, "Out There" has torn up many a dancefloor in 2010 and is still being rinsed by the Scene's leading lights. His music is getting regualr radio play on many of the UK's biggest radio stations including RinseFM, Kiss, BBC's radio1 and is being supported by DJ's from across the scene such as N-Type, Skream, Benga, Youngsta, Walsh, Lost and Unitz to name just a few. Of late Benton has turned his hand to DJing. When he plays he comes equipped with exclusives from his Wheel and Deal Brethren and other scene favourites as well as a Host of his own original Dubplates, while always bringing the deepest darkest flavors of the sound mixed together in a style that will ensure you feel your chest plate rattle and a good feeling on your soul.

Metronomy

Metronomy
Joseph Mount used to be Metronomy. Oscar Cash and Joseph Mount are now Metronomy. Metronomy have come to be known for some super-cool remixes, dance-tastic live shows and an aversion to over-production. Metronomy (still just Joseph Mount) released his debut 'Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)' to a modicum of critical acclaim. The name of the album comes from a car wrecker who lived in Joe's town of Totnes who was owed money by a man called Pip Paine. The car wrecker would leave wrecked cars around Totnes with the proclamation "Pip Paine, Pay The £5000 You Owe". 'Nights Out' is the second album by Metronomy (now with all 3 members) which was released on 08 September 2008. The genesis for the album was as "a half-arsed concept album about going out and having a crap time" .Because of recent success with remixes and their first album, Nights Out has the potential to lead to mainstream success. Metronomy live shows are recognised for their charming dance routines and light shows. Most notable is the use of push lights stuck to their chests. Joseph explained in an interview where the idea came from: "We did our first gig in Brighton and a few days before I saw these lights in a pound shop and I thought 'we'll whack these on our t-shirts and do some synchronised light shows!' I'm totally aware that some people hate it but equally I think some people enjoy it just for the fact that it's a bit of fun."

Indian Jewelry

Indian Jewelry
Indian Jewelry is a group from Houston, Texas that is known for its droning vision music and seizure-inducing stage show. They originally derive from the Swarm of Angels. Like other Houston Noise Bands and their psychedelic rock predecessors, Indian Jewelry are prone to sonic and comic experiments.

Polar Bear

Polar Bear
Polar Bear is a British jazz band led by drummer Seb Rochford. Signed to the Babel Label, their first album Dim Lit was a small-scale success. Their second album, Held on the Tips of Fingers, merged elements of cool jazz, funk, dance music, free jazz, electronica, and Drum and Bass, and was a crossover hit, earning Polar Bear a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005. The success was all the more unusual for a largely instrumental album. The album was nominated for a BBC Jazz Award 2006. They are part of the F-IRE Collective. Their latest album (titled eponymously, released July 2008) continues much in the vein of their sophomore release, focusing on the fusion of many different styles of jazz. While much more dense and lengthy than their earlier releases, early reviews are speaking highly of it.

Max Rouen

Max Rouen
A short Interview with Mr. Max Rouen about his new Album "Magnetic Wave Of Sound": How would you describe your music on "magnetic wave of sounds". As how the world would sound like if I was in charge...No really, I would describe it as some kinda belgian surrealism, but with sound instead of images. I think the way I recorded also made a characteristic sound. Since my youth I was fascinated by reel to reel - tape recorders. And at the time I was working on the first songs of magnetic wave of sound everybody i knew was applying the computer and looking at a screen constantly, I tried to recreate the music they were doing with cutting and pasting real tape. witch gives of course a very gritty and sometimes noisy sound. You can make tape loops, reverse bits, cut real small pieces of tape, overmodulate the whole thing , tape it to another machine and start experimenting with the tape speed. And the results will allways differ a little bit of what you had in mind, so you're always eager to hear the result of what you did. Could you tell me something about your band members or the artists who support you on this album? In fact, I can give you a million reasons why I like to work alone most of the times. I don't work strictly with professional people and this can add up in some strange results. For Instance Leon, the most remarkable voice on the record, is in fact a 68-year old alcoholic with a very bad reputation. Actually his rep. was so bad, my wife wouldn't let him in our house to make some recordings. So we had to use a field recording, that actually made it on the record. It's not easy working with him, harassing the female members of the group, showing up late, showing up drunk, forgetting all his lyrics and besides that acting like a diva... Luckily the other people are more stabile.[...]

Apparat is a German electronic musician (Sascha Ring) living in Berlin who since 1999 has been running the Berlin based record label "Shitkatapult" together with T.Raumschmiere. Starting out with dance floor-oriented techno, he later started to create ambient music and recently became "more interested in designing sounds than beats". Recent music is closer to glitch, clicks and cuts or idm, accompanied with classical string instruments and other sounds. He works with his own tool created in MAX/MSP framework. Effects are controlled by midicontroller. "While sensitively orchestrating his chamber musical qualities on his records or in his studio, his live performances are known for kicking some ass!" From Shitkatapult website He collaborated with Ellen Allien in 2003 on the album Berlinette, and again in 2006 on the album Orchestra of Bubbles.

65DAYSOFSTATIC

65DAYSOFSTATIC
65daysofstatic began in Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2001 as Iain Armstrong, Paul Wolinski and Joe Shrewsbury. Contrary to popular belief, they did not originally form to try to write music to fit the unreleased and little known John Carpenter film, 'Stealth Bomber' (starring Kurt Russell). Instead, they took their name from the 1954 CIA-backed coup d'etat in Guatemala. There, the CIA disabled Guatemalan communication systems while spreading propaganda, leading to the overthrow of the government. 65daysofstatic (also known by the abbreviation 65dos or 65days) are an instrumental electronic and post-rock band from Sheffield, UK. Their debut album, The Fall of Math (2004), was released to critical acclaim. The band intersperses heavy, progressive, guitar-driven instrumental sections with both idm-esque programmed and live drums. Their albums, as a result, maintain a distinctively gritty, almost industrial feel. Armstrong left in May 2003, Feedle (Graham Clarke) then joined for a brief period and played a part in writing the band's first single from The Fall of Math, Retreat! Retreat!. By the end of 2003 Rob Jones (drums) and Gareth Hughes (bass) had been recruited, increasing the band to four members. Gareth left around the time of the release of their debut album, The Fall of Math, to be replaced by Simon Wright. The second album, One Time for All Time (2005), had a discrete success. In the same year they remixed Burn from the album Crimson by Alkaline Trio. The track appears on one 7inch vinyl out of a set of 2. The third LP, The Destruction of Small Ideas (2007), was indeed a hit with fans and critics. It was anticipated by the release of its single Don't Go Down to Sorrow. Their live album, Escape from New York, was released on 20th April 2009 and featured two new tracks: No Use Crying Over (Some Techno) and Four Score and (Some Drum 'n' Bass). The fourth LP, We Were Exploding Anyway (2010) will be released on 26th April 2010. It has been anticipated by the release, in Japan only, of a single from the album entitled WEAK4. Interesting fact: Early Arctic Monkeys have been supporting 65daysofstatic on their tour http://www.65daysofstatic.com http://www.myspace.com/11488230

Flat Earth Society

Flat Earth Society
There is more than one artist with this name. 1) FES was founded in 1998, when no-nonsense artist, former architect, clarinettist, saxophonist, keyboard player, composer and producer Peter Vermeersch, wanted to explore new horizons after having convinced music lovers all over the word with Maximalist! and the cult legend band X-legged Sally. Vermeersch, who worked with international artists like Josse De Pauw, Wim Vandekeybus, Vincent Bal, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Fred Frith, The Simpletones and Jazzwork from Berlin and wrote music for the Arditti Quartet, PrimaLa Musica and theSmithQuartet, assembled a pack of inspired and inimitable musicians, forming a big band which has nowadays become much more than just a big band. Peter Vermeersch included, the band now consists of a permanent group of 14 musicians: Stefaan Blancke (trombone), Benjamin Boutreur (saxes), Berlinde Deman (bass tuba), Bart Maris (trumpet), Michel Mast (saxes), Marc Meeuwissen (trombone), Kristof Roseeuw (double bass), Luc Van Lieshout (trumpet), Bruno Vansina (saxes), Peter Vandenberghe (keyboards & compositions), Teun Verbruggen (percussion), Wim Willaert (accordion), Tom Wouters (clarinet, percussion). The music of FES, varying from strictly written sheet music to liberating improvisation, is 95% homemade. Streaks of music of other composers are used as inspiration, frequently arranged, adapted and integrated into FES compositions, adding a wide range of atmospheres and styles to the eclectic FES universe. FES, who dares to flirt with other disciplines as theatre and film and owns the ability to seduce a number of different audiences, from more select jazz listeners to a wild young rock public, is at its best live on stage. Mike Patton discovered the music of Flat Earth Society. He immediately proposed the band to release their next album and in attendance of that album he wanted to bring out a compilation album in the US. FES-isms was compiled by Mike Patton himself. Flat Earth Society joined Patton's band Fantômas on their European tour in Italy, Belgium, Holland, France, Switzerland and England.

Capsule

Capsule
Capsule is a Belgian avant-garde band that is best described as a mix of spooky sounds with the usage of instruments as the trumpet, trombone and synthesizers. It reads the following on their release site: "Capsule is a lo-fi quality combo lubricated for your ears. Each song has been manufactured according to the Capule standard SF 7576 : 2003 and electronically tested. Developed for external use only. Store Capsule in a dry and cool place, free of ozon and direct sunlight. Capsule offers a good protection against ototoxicity, seasonal affective disorder and lethargy." This cult collective steers at a dizzying speed between melodic cartoonjazz, exuberant funkrock and wild electronical experiment. With three female voices, organs, horns and a solid rythm section they create their own unique sound and atmosphere. From intimate fragile songs to bombastic fin de siècle scenes.

aMute

aMute
aMute is a project born in the mind of Jérôme Deuson. He was born somewhere near Namur and raised somewhere in the south of Belgium. He was given his first guitar at the age of 11 and never really looked back since. He followed the well known path of playing in a couple of bands, moving to the big city, playing in a couple of more bands, few concerts, so on. In 2002 Jérôme started his solo project called aMute, a compromise between his passion for so called "Post Rock", with its traditionally sad melodies, and his taste of all glitches and treatment softwares. After two albums released on the Canadian label Intr-Version Records, aMute has now become a band. Samuel Volan, Thomas Venegoni and Julien Paschal teamed with Deuson to deliver the message of their brand new album "Infernal Heights For A Drama" out on Stilll in March 2009.

The Two Tears

The Two Tears
"After finishing you can't say it's good or bad. Don't like it? It's your own fault." Kerry Davis was in a succession of spiky, garage-rocking Los Angeles bands such as the Red Aunts and Beehive and the Barracudas before forming The Two Tears. At one time it had five members... but over the years the other members drifted away or gave up the rock ghost, until Kerry was left as the only regular member of The Two Tears. No matter - she is made of sterner stuff than that, so she packed her beat-up Gibson guitar, borrowed a kick drum and took to the road as a one-man band. Now The Two Tears lives a nomadic existence, playing sweet and savage songs of heartbreak and devastation. If the money is there, it occasionally blossoms into a three-piece, but at its heart is Kerry, a rock'n'roll survivor. "Fifteen years of music and I'm riding trains on my own. In twenty years you'll find me in the garbage, kicking a bin, playing a broom..."

Ariel Pink

Ariel Pink
Ariel Pink (born Ariel Marcus Rosenberg on June 24, 1978) is an indie pop/tag] musician who is based in Los Angeles. Pink has been recording his music on tape since 1996 but it wasn't until after he passed a CD-R to the New York-based band Animal Collective that his commercial musical career took off. He attended Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, California. Later attending the School of Art at the California Institute of the Arts. Married to Alisa Daniels, July 2002 - still married. He has since caught the attention of various media sources, especially in the Los Angeles area. As most of his albums are self-made, many of them have never been heard by fans. The only albums which have been commercially released come from his "Haunted Graffiti" series and are thus the best known. Pink produces and plays almost all of his own music, and is noted for creating drum sounds using primarily his mouth, and sometimes his armpits. His home recording technique gives his music a very lo-fi sound, to the point where new listeners may mistake the era of his music. Pink cites R. Stevie Moore--friend, mentor, and "father of home recording"--as one of his major influences. He is sometimes associated with the new weird america movement, and could also be considered an embodiment of 'The New Sincerity'. Pink boasts a cult following and endorsements from more widely known artists such as fellow Paw Tracks artists Animal Collective. Aside from his music, Pink also makes semi-abstract and surreal grotesque drawings, which can be purchased from his unofficial website, ARIEL PINK haunted house, for a hefty price.

During their sets the band does not take breaks between songs in order to keep a constant energy level.

Lydia Lunch

Lydia Lunch
Lydia Lunch (born Lydia Koch on June 2, 1959 in Rochester, New York) is a controversial American post-punk singer, spoken word artist, poet, writer, photographer, and actress. Her extensive, 30-year-plus body of multimedia work is characterized by its extreme obsessiveness with the darkness of the human psyche, often focusing on nihilism, rage, violence, eroticism, surrealism, and pornographic art as key points of topic.

After arriving in New York City at the age of 16, she worked as a bar maid and go-go dancer at the Baby Doll Lounge on White street in Tribeca. Lydia met Suicide (who become her first friend in NYC) and Willy DeVille (who gave her the name 'Lunch' because she'd often been stealing lunch for The Dead Boys). Then she moved in for about a year with then-boyfriend James Chance (born James Siegfried) who had come to New York (from Milwaukee) in the last week of 1975. They lived at a funky two-room fifth-floor walk-up apartment on East 2nd street (between Avenue A and B) and at a tiny storefront on Twelfth street.

Lunch moved into a large communal household of artists and musicians in NYC, including Kitty Bruce, daughter of Lenny Bruce. After befriending the 'godfathers of punk' Suicide at Max's Kansas City, she founded the short-lived but influential No Wave band Teenage Jesus and the Jerks in 1976 with her artistic partner, James Chance. Both appeared on the seminal No Wave compilation No New York. Lunch later appeared on two songs on Chance's album Off White (credited to James White and the Blacks; Lunch used the pseudonym "Stella Rico") in 1978.

She appeared in two films directed by the husband and wife film-making team of Scott B and Beth B; In the short film Black Box (1978) she played an unnamed torturer, and in the feature length, neo-noir thriller Vortex (1982) she played a private detective named "Angel Powers". During this time, she also appeared in a number of films by Vivienne Dick, including She Had her Gun All Ready (1978) and Beauty Becomes The Beast (1979), co starring with Pat Place.

In the mid-'80s she formed her own recording and publishing company called "Widowspeak" on which she continued to release a slew of her own material, including songs and spoken word.

A self-avowed "confrontationalist", identified by the Boston Phoenix as "one of the 10 most influential performers of the '90s", Lunch's solo career featured collaborations with musicians such as J. G. Thirlwell, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Nick Cave, Billy Ver Plank, Steven Severin, Robert Quine, Sadie Mae, Rowland S. Howard, Michael Gira, The Birthday Party, Einstürzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, Die Haut and Black Sun Productions. She also acted in, wrote, and directed underground films, sometimes collaborating with underground filmmaker and musician Richard Kern (including several films, such as Fingered, in which she performed unsimulated sex acts), and more recently has recorded and performed as a spoken word artist, collaborating with such artists as Exene Cervenka, Henry Rollins, Don Bajema, Hubert Selby Jr., and Emilio Cubeiro, as well as authoring both traditional books and comix (with award-winning graphic novel artist Ted McKeever).

Simon Reynolds (author of Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984) wrote: "And although 'affection' is possibly an odd word to use in reference to a bunch of nihilists, I do feel fond of the No Wave people. ... there are great moments throughout Lydia Lunch's long discography." Selected quotations: I'm nihilistic, antagonistic, violent, horrible - but not obliterated, yet. I would be humiliated if I found out that anything I did actually became a commercial success. There're enough happy assholes out there, why should I be another one in the line... It seems to me, that for over two thousand years now; mad-men, maniacs, and would be messiahs have been pilfering, have been pillaging, have been plundering, and have been raping the entire planet; and the way I see it, Mother Nature is getting pretty pissed off. No pornography exploits women. It exploits men. It's the men that are made to look stupid, silly and ridiculous, chasing after the golden elixir. Women look beautiful, do what they wanna do and get paid for it. The only way to define the art of Lydia Lunch is simply not to.

Drop The Lime

Drop The Lime
Everyone comes from somewhere, but some people wear the cities they're from like badges of honour. Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, one of those people whose identity is intrinsically connected to his hometown New York City.

And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rock n roll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 60's TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego Curses!).

Gaz

Gaz
Being interested in electronic music generally, absorbing everything that sounded good, Gaz decided to start DJ'ing in 2004. But it was not until 2008 he settled down as a dubstep DJ. He feels the dubstep genre is influenced by all kinds of music. And that's what he loves so much about it. So it's obvious his sets mainly contain dubstep tunes. But having played drum 'n bass and house in his earlier years, Gaz carefully selects the music that fits the moment. In other words: You'll never hear him play the same set twice, unless it's on your iPod. Deep baselines, finger licking beats, crazy wobbles; Gaz ties them together with fast transitions into a smooth flow. At the moment Gaz is also working on some material of his own. One track 'Annalyse' has already been digitally released and more songs are on their way. Gaz himself describes them as dubstep tunes walking the line of techno, house, breaks, 2step/uk garage and drum & bass. But his passion for dubstep doesn't end there. Gaz, living in the city of Ghent, teamed up with local club Decadance to make sure you can enjoy the finest dubstep on the dance floor. The 'Rotation' parties take place every 2nd and 4th wednesday of the month. One Belgian headliner, a talent on the rise and Gaz himself will get your feet moving. Sometimes an international DJ joins the line-up. Previous guests have been: Tes la rok, Headhunter, Peverelist and RSD.

SOME SAY YES SOME DO LESS

SOME SAY YES SOME DO LESS
