Skreamizm
Skreamizmlondon.com : The Skreamizm night will take a back-to-basics approach: a dark room, a massive soundsystem, an extended set, and a focus firmly on the music. Rather than staying in one place, Skream explains, they'll find him taking the crowd on a tour through the music he loves.
"It'll be everything I want everyone to like," he smiles. "It's all about people going out, actually zoning in, and actually becoming at one with the music."

Mason, Tony Senghore, Polydor, Michael Hime, Socrates

Luke Vibert

Luke Vibert
Possibly the most original of the neo-ambient trip-hoppers was Luke Vibert, also known as Wagon Christ, a protagonist of the British scene since the early 1990s.
Luke Vibert devoted his project Wagon Christ to the ambient side of the trip-hop equation with Phat Lab Nightmare (1994) and especially with the celestial trance of Throbbing Pouch (1995), exuding abandon and fatalism. Massive sampling of orchestral sounds gave Tally Ho! (1998) an almost symphonic grandeur.

In 1994 Vibert's talent was featured on a series of recordings: the EP Sunset Boulevard (Rising High, 1994), the album Phat Lab Nightmare (Rising High, 1994), with the ever more psychological Mahadelic and Aerhaart, and the EP At Atmos (Rising High, 1994), that moved towards a more percussive approach with the likes of Inside Out and Hasjit. These recordings were influential in redefining the standard for ambient rave music.

Like many of his contemporaries, Vibert has released under a wide number of aliases, including Amen Andrews, Spac Hand Luke, Plug, Kerrier District and The Ace of Clubs, as well as the aforementioned Wagon Christ.

John Talabot

John Talabot
Mason

Mason
Dutch duo Mason make the kind of records that often defy being pigeon holed and given a label. Their productions have been destroying dance floors to tearing it up the World's charts since 2006, laying the foundations for more forward thinking music. Its not about making records for a particular set of Djs or trendy scene but just good honest music!

Using Iasons classical violin training coupled with a love of diverse music and a hi-tech apprenticeship in a ring tone sweatshop, together with his studio and live partner Coen, a man fixated with ancient synths and playing in rock bands and a mean vocalist to boot, the Mason boys are now forging their own unique path. This duo has the musical arsenal required to make everything from filthy late night dance club bombs to daytime radio anthems. These Dutchmen are unpredictable in both what is played in the club and what is created in the studio.

The Mason sound takes a great understanding of melody and fuses it with technological know-how sheer musicianship and dance floor savvy. It is dance music for the thinking man, but not so clever to be alienating and dull. Masons debut album, They Are Among Us features some interesting styles and flavours as well as guests such as legendary NYC rappers (Run) DMC and Kurtis Blow and hip hop UK hero Sway. Also renowned singer-songwriter Matt Hales ( AKA Aqualung) , Wonky pop pin-up Sam Sparro and former Moloko chanteuse Roisin Murphy add their magic to this eclectic line-up.

Iason and Coen play from behind their specially designed Baboon Booth using a mixture of new technology and real instruments to create a hugely dynamic and different show.

There has been a Worldwide hit, Exceeder  and successful releases under their belt for Data/Ministry Of Sound as well as numerous releases and remixes for labels like Great Stuff, Skint, CR2, Mute and Pickadoll . Mason continue to garner respect from above as well as under ground. The boys have recently lent his sound to remix on numerous artists including Moby, Gabriella Cilmi, Hadouken, Rex The Dog, Evil Nine, Robyn and Jesse Rose.

2009 saw the launch of Mason's label, Animal Language and regular parties in Amsterdam under the same name. Ten double A-side releases down the line and the imprint is making fans with a huge array of DJs , bloggers and music-heads. Support has come from far and wide with the likes of Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Erol Alkan, Aeroplane and A-Trak all behind the imprint. The label recently graced the cover of dance music bible DJ Magazine with a CD of previous and new releases.

Behind the decks, or CDJs at least, Iason, the dj-ing face of Mason, has honed his craft for over fourteen years since falling for the grooves of early hip hop and spinning in his local clubs. Things progressed to warming up for Global mega star Tiesto at his gigs around the World where Mason also jammed violin to his own and his compatriots sets. The fiddle has since been rested, but Mason continues to rock crowds wherever he plays. He has headlined at some of the Worlds finest clubs and festivals including headlining the massively opulent Sensation White parties around the planet as well as appearing with top billing at festivals such as Dance Valley in Holland and at Creamfields in the UK.

If sheer talent and karma have anything to do with it then expect to be hearing this name a lot in the future.

Metronomy

Metronomy
Joseph Mount used to be Metronomy. Oscar Cash and Joseph Mount are now Metronomy. Metronomy have come to be known for some super-cool remixes, dance-tastic live shows and an aversion to over-production. Metronomy (still just Joseph Mount) released his debut 'Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)' to a modicum of critical acclaim. The name of the album comes from a car wrecker who lived in Joe's town of Totnes who was owed money by a man called Pip Paine. The car wrecker would leave wrecked cars around Totnes with the proclamation "Pip Paine, Pay The £5000 You Owe". 'Nights Out' is the second album by Metronomy (now with all 3 members) which was released on 08 September 2008. The genesis for the album was as "a half-arsed concept album about going out and having a crap time" .Because of recent success with remixes and their first album, Nights Out has the potential to lead to mainstream success. Metronomy live shows are recognised for their charming dance routines and light shows. Most notable is the use of push lights stuck to their chests. Joseph explained in an interview where the idea came from: "We did our first gig in Brighton and a few days before I saw these lights in a pound shop and I thought 'we'll whack these on our t-shirts and do some synchronised light shows!' I'm totally aware that some people hate it but equally I think some people enjoy it just for the fact that it's a bit of fun."

Warren Suicide

Warren Suicide
Berlin-based electro punk band Warren Suicide see themselves as an audio-visual art experience and artist collective which does not follow any clear scheme or old structures. Cherie (Vocals & visuals) and Nackt (vocals & guitar) are the core of the band, performing their music live on stage with various musicians who are friends of theirs. Therefore, any additional member of the band is a variable, which even underlines the uniqueness of the band and every single concert turns into an unparalleled event. Their music is Electronic that rocks. It's romance which sinks its poison teeth deep into your flesh. Warren Suicide originated 2003 in a loft in Neukölln, Berlin. Two men, Nackt and Fremdkörper, were working on songs in the studio, they were looking for a sound, a character. Cherie was sitting in the kitchen, heard the notes and drew a strange figure onto the paper in front of her. A small face appeared in, the outlines slightly contorted, the body of the slender figure, asexual, thin arms and legs. It smiled carefully, the teeth looking like those of a fish, the eyes with the look of a new-born baby, but wide open. Warren Suicide was born. Next door, the first song was created, starting with the words: "Hello, hello, my name is Warren Suicide". Ever since then, the musicians, the music and Warren existed, unseperable also in reality. Warren is no invisible band member or some cartoon character as it's the case with Gorillaz - he is an essence, he activates the musicians - Warren Suicide lies somewhere between the imaginable and the apprehended.

autoKratz

autoKratz
Since storming onto the UK music scene in early 2009, London based duo autoKratz have swiftly merited a reputable and solid name for themselves from the start: With their distinctly unique sound which boasts infectious bass hooks, insanely catchy vocals, compulsive beats and slices & bleeps and comparisons to Digitalism, this electro-duo quickly caught the ears of certain BBC tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and Steve Lamacq who helped spread the gospel and gain support from the likes of Tiga, Erol Alkan and Brodinski in the clubs. Shortly thereafter, the Parisian electro-pioneers at Kitsuné snapped them up to release their full length 'Animal in the Fall of 2009 in Europe, prompting the band to embark on a widely successful tour, recruiting legions of hardcore fans across Europe in the electro underground scene with their formidable live shows, securing them as one of the most sought after breakthrough acts in electronic music this year. Having played a prestigious festival circuit this year including Glastonbury, Lowlands & Pukkelpop, the autoKratz set combines their trademark rock and roll energy with a remarkably distinctive electro sound - a recipe which has seen them touted as the most significant live electronic act to have emerged in recent years with comparisons to legendary acts such as Underworld, Depeche Mode, and The Prodigy. "Always More", the first single to be taken from their highly anticipated debut album 'Animal' is a moment of electro-pop perfection, proving autoKratz have honed their songwriting craft to produce a very special record.

Junior Boys

Junior Boys
A Hamilton, Ontario-based electronic pop group, Junior Boys began as a duo with its duties split between Jeremy Greenspan and Johnny Dark. Influenced by a number of music sectors %u2014 including arty synth pop, minimal techno, U.K. garage, and contemporary hip-hop %u2014 they made a demo with no positive results. Dark opted to leave the group, but former Warp employee Nick Kilroy eventually heard the songs and became interested enough to begin his KIN label with Junior Boys as its first artist. Engineer Matt Didemus joined Greenspan, and together they recorded enough material for a full-length. Prior to the 2004 release of the resulting album, titled Last Exit, a pair of 12" singles were released %u2014 one included a remix from Fennesz, while the other featured a remix from Manitoba (now Caribou). Three months after Last Exit's initial U.K. release, Domino picked up the album for distribution in the U.S. The Domino version added a bonus disc with B-sides and remixes from the 12" releases. The relatively slick So This Is Goodbye followed in 2006. The single "In The Morning" was featured in an iTunes commercial in 2007. On July 10, 2007, Junior Boys second album was revealed as being on the shortlist for the 2007 Polaris Music Prize. They did not ultimately win the prize. In September 2008, Morgan Geist's album "Double Night Time" was released with five songs performed by Jeremy Greenspan. On April 7, 2009, the duo released their third full length album, Begone Dull Care on Domino records.

James Pants

James Pants
The son of two Presbyterian ministers from an American backwater called Spokane, James Pants went from being the teenage DJ for a black nationalist rap group to a multi-instrumentalist who can count on fans as diverse as Flying Lotus, Zane Lowe, Erol Alkan and XL's new teen hip-hop internet sensation Tyler The Creator, who calls James "one of the most creative fucking people to walk this earth".

James met Stones Throw Records head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf after his high school prom and dropped a debut album in 2008, Welcome, which told the tale of a lone music obsessive who synthesized a staggeringly broad record collection into a coherent LP in a style he dubbed "fresh beat", taking in '80s boogie, synth experiments, garage rock and much more.

Since then James has toured the globe, released Seven Seals (a tribute to his beloved '70s cult and New Age records), a self-titled third album, and uprooted from Colorado to Cologne, where he works as a studio engineer.

THE YEAR IS 2001 AND THE PLACE IS TEXAS. Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf is DJing while a sharply dressed young man approaches the DJ Booth with his Prom date in tow to formally introduce himself. Thus begins the story of James Pants. What began as a dream Prom night to see his hero DJ went to an internship at the label to eventually landing the ultimate fantasy by being signed to the roster and championed as the 'next big thing' by none other than Peanut Butter Wolf himself - on top of critics like Busy P, Urb, XLR8R, & Dazed & Confused Magazines. Mr. Pants is a purveyor par excellence of that unmistakable "fresh beat": 80's Soul, Electro Boogie, Early Rap, New Wave, & Post-Punk Disco, all of which can be found on Welcome where James plays drums, keys, guitar and sings. From a radio perspective, what format does this fall under - this new style that Pants has invented? Do you play it on the groove alongside the likes of Skyy, Cameo, or even Pharrell (listen to 'KA$H')? Or do you play it in the underground alongside the up-to-the-minute electro pulse of Egyptian Lover, Cybotron and even Too $hort? The answer, of course, is both! There's enough Pants to fit any style.

Style Of Eye

Style Of Eye
In the early 1990s, working from a studio in the northern-most parts of Sweden, Linus Eklow laid the foundations for what is now known as Style Of Eye. 'Right Now!' was his first release on Derrick Carter's Classic Music Company- and it received a major response from both the dance press and tastemakers alike. It didn't take long before the house and techno community at large picked up on what Linus was doing. With subsequent Style Of Eye releases such as 'Gioco' and 'H-bomb' and 'We Got You', Linus broke through onto dancefloors all over the world. His releases being played by such well-known names as Tiefschwarz, John Dahlback, Claude VonStroke, Tiga, and Laurent Garnier amongst many others... Linus is one to look out for in 2008, a year that starts off with an E.P on Dirtybird and a mix-compilation for Om Records, which is a good opportunity to check out his own mix of house and techno. Two more E.P's to come out on Pickadoll before introducing his first artist-album, that will see its light in April 2008 on Pickadoll Records. With all this lined-up and a steadily building a reputation as a dj, he is certain to become the "important future star" that DJ Magazine predicted he would be.

mr. Oizo

mr. Oizo
Mr. Oizo (pronounced 'Monsieur Wah-zoh') is the nom de plume for French music producer Quentin Dupieux. Dupieux is most famous for his electro track "Flat Beat", which became a hit all across Europe in 1999 for being featured in a series of Levi's jeans TV advertisements. Dupieux also directed the ad, which featured a yellow puppet named Flat Eric nodding his head to the sound of the track while riding in a pickup truck. Flat Eric later appeared in the music video for "Flat Beat". After "Flat Beat", Oizo released his first album in 1999, Analog Worms Attack, featuring a single of the same name.

Marc Romboy

Marc Romboy
Out of the dungeons of Moenchengladbach, Germany the thirty-something pulls the strings and makes things happen. His recent and most successful move definitely was to give birth to the already well established electro/house imprint Systematic in 2004 in Berlin which is a platform for his own productions as well as for hot and upcoming talents. Electronic house music with a certain breakdance appeal, reminiscent of old school Chicago dance floor insanity is Romboy's true passion, when it comes to deejaying, producing and making decisions as the Systematic commander! So far for the label he has collaborated with such high profiled artists as Booka Shade or Blake Baxter and signed tracks and mixes from producers like Martin Landsky, John Dahlbäck, Phonique, Jence or Abysm. After only a couple of releases Romboy managed to put his own stamp on the international club scene and his first artist album Gemini was released in 2006 His second artist album for Systematic records, Contrast released in June 2008, sees an electronic album of collaborations with some of dance music's most excellent vocalists. Chelonis R. Jones - known for releases on Get Physical and for his collaborations with Röyksopp - contributes on two releases. Blake Baxter - a regular Romboy collaborator who has also released on Kevin Saunderson's KMS imprint, Tresor, Disko B and Underground Resistance - adds his vocals to 'Fly Away'. And Mr. K-Alexi - one of Chicago's finest who has also collaborated with artists including Larry Heard, Robert Owens, Will Smith and Felix Da Housecat, lends his voice to two tracks on the album.

Zohra

Zohra
Zohra Aït-Fath is a Belgian singer, model, DJ, writer and actress with Moroccan roots. Besides singing and performing she appeared in numorous tv-shows, is a successful model and DJ and played a role in "Spring" which is still popular in Belgium. More recently she drove through the desert and released a book with Moroccan fairytales: "Zohra en de gazellen". Some songs of her are: "I hate to love you", "Hurricane of love", "Look up", "Surrounded by a dream" and "Serious".

Pig & Dan

Pig & Dan
Pig & Dan are made up on producers Dan Duncan & Igor Tchkotoua (Pig). They met a number of years ago and from there have developed an extremly solid and fruitful partnership. After a few months of producing together they signed a deal with Dutch label, Sadie Records, they began to enter into the market and gain success. This gave the duo a boost and they started to produce two/three tunes a week. They then decided that it would be a good idea to build their own record company 'Submission' and work together with Sadie to create a bigger market. The rest is history.

Skream Pokes

Skream Pokes
Skream is the electronic music producer and DJ Ollie Jones from Croydon, South London. One of dubstep's first and most prominent producers, he is often hailed as the 'ambassador' of the growing genre.

Most famous outside the dubstep community for his crossover hit 'Midnight Request Line' released in 2005 on Tempa, he continues to churn out classics at an amazing rate, including his 'Skreamizm' vinyl series and a self-titled album, both also on the seminal Tempa record label.

As well as releasing bad-boy tunes on other labels such as Big Apple (also the name of the shop where Dubstep was founded by Hatcha, Youngsta, Skream and a select few others) and Tectonic (Bristol resident and long-time dubstep devotee Pinch's label), 2008 marked the launch of Skream's own label 'Disfigured Dubz', introducing new artists such as Kulture and Late.

Meet Skream: Croydon's musical wonderkid. At 15 he discovered making music. Five years later he's changed the course of UK urban music, having helped build the foundations of London's most exciting new musical style, dubstep. But he's barely started yet: because right now, Skream is an artist on fire.

Skream's story begins in Croydon, in secondary school year 11. He wasn't getting on with teachers and they weren't getting on with him: but he was getting on with his music. But two friendships cemented then would start him onto the path to musical success.

As a DJ, producer and remixer, Michael Mayer remains one of Germany's core celebrities in dance music. It's no secret that he spends his weekends traveling around the globe. It's likely throughout his career he's played in front of millions. Then, as a co-owner of Kompakt, he spends his weekdays deciding what will be released on the label and working with the label's artists and overseeing Kompakt's distribution wing - the home of over 50 record labels. Amazingly enough, he manages to sneak into the studio on occasion to produce his own music and remix the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Foals and Rufus Wainwright. And of course there is Supermayer but more on that later. It's safe to say he loves being challenged and regardless of the pressure is never putting less than 100% of his heart and soul into everything he does. Born in 1971 in the Black Forest, he was exposed to DJing as a young teen when he befriended a neighborhood DJ and light designer who gave him mix tapes and snuck him into the local club. "The image of someone standing behind the turntables is carved into my memory. I knew at once that was what I wanted to do". Taking up the trade of a paperboy a wee 14 year old Mayer managed to earn enough for turntables and a mixer. Soon after, he was the star of the school dance and maestro for the local birthday parties. At the tender age of 18, Mayer graduated to the world of disco and became Saturday night resident of Achern's leading club at the time, Why Not. Sadly short-lived, Michael's musical tastes didn't match the crowd's bid for commercial cuts and so he was banished to peruse more "underground" projects.

A-Trak

A-Trak
From label boss, hit producer, World Champion DJ, trendsetter, genre-mangling party-starter, to blogger extraordinaire, Alain Macklovitch, best known as A-Trak, embodies the full scope of the 21st Century musician-entrepreneur model. At the mere age of 26, A-Trak has had two distinct phases to his winding 11 year career. Stage one: after winning the World DMCs at age 15 (in 1997), he spent years as one of hip hop's most renowned selectors. After taking over tour DJ duties for Kanye West in 2004, just as he was beginning to combine a bigger variety of sounds into his sets, A-Trak launched into stage two: becoming an undisputed icon for a generation of kids that worship hip hop and dance music alike, and commencing a worldwide boundary-blurring takeover. It all started very early, and developed very quickly, for A-Trak. As a young teenager in Montreal, he would scratch on one turntable for his brother (of Chromeo) Dave's high school band. He begun practising, "with the discipline of a monk", and after winning the Canadian, and later World, DMCs found himself an honorary member of Q-Bert's legendary Skratch Piklz crew. He soon hooked up with DJ Craze and joined another famous scratch troupe, The Allies, and spent half a decade touring as hip hop's hottest turntablist crew. Five years ago, after a chance meeting with Kanye West at a London in-store, A-Trak performed his first gig with the superstar, without a rehearsal, in front of 12,000 people - and from then on did every show with him for four years.

AKA The Junkies

AKA The Junkies
Aka The Junkies are Willie wartaal and Arjuna Schiks. Aka The Junkies are prominent faces in the Amsterdam after party circuit and with local dealers better known as the "Cheapskates". Willie Wartaal and Arjuna Schiks really got to know each other in rehab clinic Smith & Jones in Amsterdam. For them the reason for their rehabilitation was a mystery, but it sounded very logical to others around them.
After being released from rehab, Willie Wartaal and Arjuna Schiks bond was so strong that they decided to join forces and make music together. Due to the many contacts they made while being in the rehab clinic, collaborations where made with Meikbar, Melle Mel, Hitmeister D, Mason(known for his mega hit Perfect with Princess Superstar) and Seymour Bits who all made a remix for their first hit single Konijntje.
Besides the aka The Junkies project both Arjuna and Willie Wartaal have a solo career as well. Arjuna Schiks performs in many different clubs in Holland with a fresh and elevating electronic live set combining ambient tech-house en electro. His performance at one of the biggest festivals in Holland (Mysteryland) was one of the many highlights in his still young career as a musician. Arjuna Schiks currently competes in the finals of De Grote Prijs Van Nederland (one of the leading talent contests in Holland) which he is sure he is going to win, and is also producing an collaborating with Holland's finest producer and DJ 100%Isis and Club Roxy veteran DJ Dimitri.

Crookers

Crookers
Drawing from influences of house, hip hop and beyond, Crookers blend their beats with the kind of fidget house finesse that gives Potty Mouth Music its soiled swagger. Since 2003, DJs Phra and Bot have been drawing upon their collective musical backgrounds to create tracks that twist, startle and surprise with synthetic pop. Before their collaboration as Crookers, Bot and Phra pursued their music interests on a separate tip. Bot took up the piano and guitar at an early age, later moving onto synths, turntables and sequencers. Phra had already started DJing by age 11, when he was introduced to the Italian hip hop scene. Soon, he morphed into an MC and became fully immersed in a culture that would shape his future production career. "Both of us started getting more involved in music when we used to listen to hip hop," Phra says. When the two artists met, both were trying to branch out of their genre success and explore dance music. The experiment worked. "It felt natural to team up, seeing that we had the same musical tastes ... which isn't that easy here in Milan," he says. After having released two EPs earlier this year ("Knobbers" and "Mad Kidz", both exclusively containing original tracks), they are currently working on their first album, which is due for september 2009. Crookers certainly have sleazed out dancefloors with a catalogue of original tracks, but it's their work as remixers that have made them one of the most after batteries in the business. Currently, The duo has reworked tracks for the likes of Armand van Helden, Bonde do Role, Brodinski, The Chemical Brothers, Magik Johnson, Moby, Chromeo, Busy P, Don Rimini or Bumblebeez. When Crookers are not crafting their dirty (crooked) beats in the studio, they are busy holding down their residency with MTV (Italy). "House and hip hop are our main influences, but we try to put all the things we like in our productions. We listen to a lot of music from very different periods and genres."

Birdy Nam Nam

Birdy Nam Nam
Four DJs who play live, Birdy Nam Nam are a DJ crew from Paris, France whose members are Crazy B, DJ Pone, DJ Need and Little Mike. Birdy Nam Nam have won several prizes throughout their career, including the DMC Technics 2002 World TEAM Championships. Birdy Nam Nam's goal is to use the turntable player as an actual musical instrument. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2006 on Uncivilized World Records, and, in March of that year, they performed at the internationally renowned music conference South By Southwest (SXSW), in Austin, Texas. The group's name is taken from a line in the 1968 Peter Sellers film The Party, directed by Blake Edwards.

Brodinski

Brodinski
Brodinski, 1 has his right hand on the hardened minimalist edge and his left hand on the electro party scene. He's part of the fluokids phenomenon. His sets are clean but the tracks are dirty, and the "mix tapes" he offers on his blog never fail to disappoint. Baby Djs are awake since 2006, be careful Brodinski may be the bad boy of this blogaddicted gang ! Coming from Reims, he started music at 15 and just never stopped hitting the dancefloor harder and harder... His friendship with Yuksek helped him to begin the production of music of mass destruction: "Bad runner" is a must play for any DJ dealing with bloghouse and maximalist techno sets! He also appears on many hostings and mashups with his friends creating new dimensions of his work: noob & Brodinski, Mumdance & Brodinski, Gucci Vump , The Krays (aka Yuksek & Brodinski). "Brodi" is now resident for Panik parties in Paris... Boom Chick Boom Ah !

chikinki

chikinki
Chikinki are an Electro-pop band from Bristol, United Kingdom. The band formed at Hiatt Baker Hall at the University of Bristol in 1996/7. Originally there were six members: Rupert (vocals), Ed (rhythm guitar), Steve (drums), Boris (keyboards), Luke (lead guitar) and Trevor (saxophone). They were briefly joined by a 7th member, a bass player, but the experiment did not last. After gigging regulary around many of Bristols pubs and clubs the band turned professional after the members had completed their degrees, however, Luke decided to leave and the band was reduced to a five piece. They were signed by local label sink and stove records though this was short-lived and the band joined Island Records though ultimately they were dropped and are currently with Kitty-Yo records. This European label has helped them break further into Europe where they were already popular and much of their earlier catalogue has now been re-released on this label. The band are now set to release new material on their own Urban Cow label, home of their first EP Telephone Heroes. Contrary to their current style, the band played more funk than anything else early on though gradually moved towards a more popular style and eventually went over to a more electronic / pop sound that they maintain today. After the loss of Luke, Trevor ultimately became a second keyboard/ sequencer player and this leads to the band's unique sound. Since they have no bass player, and Ed has taken over as the lead guitarist, the two keyboards provide a combination of melody and rhythm sections. Furthermore, the band has a strong sense of musical structure (both Trevor and Boris obtained their degrees in Music) and all five members are song writers. On stage they are dramatic, Rupert especially is prone to leaving the stage and performing from amongst the audience, and all are at their peak when launching into something akin to a group 'solo'. 'You Said' will be released on Urban Cow on May 8th 2006,. This will be backed with 'Nasty Side' and will be limited edition only. The band will be touring around the UK to support this. Check their site for details.

The Subs

The Subs
Rambunctious. That's the least you can say about Belgian beatbastards The Subs. Having already released a couple of underground dance maxis - 'You Make Me Spill', 'Fuck That Shit', 'Substracktion' - over the past years, they hit it hard in 2008, with 'Kiss My Trance', a punktrance-juggernaut of a hitsingle.

The track started off as a joke, the band wanted to see how far they could push the limits of the trance-genre and get away with it. A true jack-in-the-box, 'Kiss My Trance' turned out te be a massive cross-over success: in genuine guerilla-style, 'Kiss My Trance' peaked both commercial charts AND dj-lists - it terrorized the radio AND put club dancefloors on fire.
So much for the joke then, The Subs are in business. For real.

The Subs are not your average 'let's mess around with some analogue machines' band.
The Subs are Jeroen De Pessemier aka Papillon (singer/producer), Wiebe Loccufier aka Tonic (half of dj-duo Starski & Tonic, heirs to the Culture Club-throne, as they took over the residency spot at the infamous Ghent club from 2 ManyDJs and The Glimmers) and Stefan Bracke aka l'entrepreneur also fronting the raverockband Foxylane.

Since their eponymous debut album Subculture landed at the dusk of 2008, The Subs have.........

Played more than 160 shows, travelled to 14 countries, used 12 different airline companies, 2 tour buses and 1 private jet. Between the three of them, they've mailed about 250 post cards and drank about 80 bottles of vodka. On the road, they've lost 5 iPhone adapters and 6 pairs of earplugs. 480 T-shirts were sold and they've counted at least 12 stage invasions and 13 scuffles with venue security. The band remembers 10 speeding tickets and were questioned by the police at least 3 times. They've made 6 music video's, launched 1 blog and recorded 3 videocasts. Their audience took home 3 shoes and ripped 2 pairs of trousers from Papillon's body, who did vomit on stage once. 7 live shows ended with a broken wireless microphone and 2 AX-7 keytars got smashed up. A total of 68 rolls of Gaffer tape were used, about 100 glitter balls were 'customised', more than 70 interviews were given and their tunes featured on 78 compilations. About half of the past 730 days they've spend inside a studio, 45 demo's were made and 21 different versions of new artwork got rejected. About 28 hours were spend discussing the definitive, 11 songs counting track list... but it's here, the second album by The Subs: Decontrol.

A lot has happened to the crew from Ghent, Belgium, since their electroravepunk-whatsinaname powered train started rolling: they celebrated 10 years of Fabric with the give-away Mitshubitchi track, for instance. But also released their acclaimed Vomit In Style EP, featuring stellar remixes from Mixhell, Don Rimini and Les Petits Pilous. Together with the latter, The Subs hooked up for the release of a banging double biller, My Body Is Gonna Rememb/Rototom. But stressed about the most important evolution, the band agree unanimously: their maturation into a fully fledged, all hands on deck live band. "It's our fingerprint", the band says. "Our ticket to open doors and roads. Gone are the freshmen days of 'two CD-J's and a microphone', travelling from one church tower to the next. With this live setting, we can travel anywhere in the world and show the people what the heart, mind, arms and legs of The Subs truly are.".

Are the new tunes that make up Decontrol the fall-out of The Subs' live incarnation? "Not exactly", stresses Papillon. "Playing a live show is not the same as recording an album. They're two different worlds. Electronic music doesn't evolve from four guys jamming together in a shed, it's the fruit of many dark hours sitting behind keyboards and computers", the singer/producer/jumping jack flash adds laughingly. All the new tracks have been road tested though. Sometimes the band stretched soundchecks into a three hour tweaking session, before unleashing new bits and pieces to a live audience later the same evening. There's been a lot of (soul) searching, trying to find the right tone and feeling of the new album, for which Papillon claims that, besides a new found love, chaos was the main inspiration: "All creativity is born out of chaos. When you allow yourself to give up control, unexpected, beautiful things happen." Creativity from chaos; it almost echo's Malcolm McClaren's famous 'cash from chaos' manifesto - "Well, we don't know about the cash, but there's always plenty of chaos surrounding The Subs", the band agree on, grinningly. And this: "Decontrol is much less a 'fuck you' album than Subculture, and more an 'I'd like to fuck you' album.".

A prime example of the rewarding, creative chaos surrounding The Subs is the smash single The Pope Of Dope, cooked up with the notorious DJ-squad Partyharders. Papillon explains: "They're such fun guys to hang out with, we wanted to collaborate on something sooner or later." It turned out to be sooner than later, when one night, the boys started fidgeting with a stray disco sample and Partyharders chief Le Colonel performed an on the spot recording of his mischievous vocal. During the summer of 2010, the result went from underground oddity to big room carpet bomb and festival favourite in no time, taking everyone, all three Subs included, by surprise.
The dopey pope is absent on Decontrol, but he gave his blessing to the too cool-for-old school house cut Don't Stop, the hyperactive rave jam that is The Hype, the hard hitting techno beats of The Visible Man and the French movie soundtrack-inspired Hannibal (And The Battle Of Zama). There's even some profound philosophies hidden inside Decontrol - the universally appealing club anthem The Face Of The Planet, for instance, or Lemonade, inspired by a quote from American skater/artist Ed Templeton: 'if life gives you lemons, make lemonade'.

"We make music for the shuffle generation", concludes Papillon. "Decontrol covers a lot of bases, but at the same time it definitely serves as a whole. We've become more positive thinking the past few years, I can't wait to infect our audience with that sensation."

Red Snapper

Red Snapper
Red Snapper are a British instrumental band founded in London in 1993 by Ali Friend (double bass), Richard Thair (drums), and David Ayers (guitar). The three core members are also joined by various guest musicians and vocalists on different records. According to music journalist, Jason Ankeny (Allmusic) "the British acid jazz trio were notable for their pioneering synthesis of acoustic instruments and electronic textures". Stylistically, Red Snapper's music contains elements of jazz, funk, jungle, trip-hop, hip-hop and breakbeat, as well as references to early psychedelic and progressive rock. The band released three EPs before signing to Warp Records for their debut album, Prince Blimey (1996).[1] The band were a somewhat unusual feature of Warp Records' 1990s roster: in contrast to the studio-oriented IDM the record label primarily dealt in, the band had a live and organic sound: a smoky mixture of dub, jazz and all tempos of breakbeat from trip hop to drum and bass. In 1997, Red Snapper (along with the Foo Fighters) supported The Prodigy on their Fat of the Land tour in the UK For their follow-up Making Bones they were joined by jungle MC Det, Byron Wallen the jazz trumpeter and singer Alison David. The latter was replaced by Karim Kendra by their third album, Our Aim Is to Satisfy (2000). In early 2002, Red Snapper announced its dissolution. Also in 2002 the compilation album It's All Good was released. It included a previously unreleased track, "Ultraviolet".

Kelpe

Kelpe
*Kelpe is Kel Mckeown, from Loughborough, England. As a young teenager, Kel McKeown (AKA Kelpe) decided that sampling and sequencing might provide him with a safer past time than bone splintering skateboarding mishaps. The initial efforts made on a Commodore Amiga with a sampler provided him with a discipline and focus that is of fundamental importance to the creative process that he currently employs in the execution of his distinctive beat creations. Kelpe's influences range from the bleeps & bass of classic Warp artists to the funk of Sly Stone, and the minimalism of Steve Reich Harmonia to the percussive space-scapes of Tortoise Do Make Say Think. The diversity of the music that inspires Kelpe finds reflection in his own sonic adventures, informing his ever evolving sound, combining as map and compass to guide his lunar-bound b-boy throw downs. Coming to the attention of DC Recordings in early 2003, his first release for label was the 12" EP 'The People are Trying to Sleep', a wide eyed carnival of fractured beats and warped electronics. This was followed by the critically acclaimed album 'Sea Inside Body' (September 2004), an album described by The Wire as "One of the most engrossing listens in recent electronic music". In 2005 came bedroom discotheque 12" 'Sunburnt Eyelids' and In 2008 came double LP 'Ex-Aquarium' (2008) and remix companion 'Extraquarium' (featuring Zombie Zombie, Fulgeance, Architeq etc). Most recently, in October 2009 third full length 'Cambio Wechsel' arrived, which BBC Music described "as irresistible as Prefuse 73 or Flying Lotus's most commended collections". In early 2008, to support the release of 'Ex-Aquarium' Kelpe teamed up with ubiquitous drummer Chris Walmsley (Voice of The Seven Woods, Broadcast, Psapp etc) for a new live setup incorporating the traditional drum kit and MPC style beat manipulations whilst not being afraid to embrace modern technology (i.e. a laptop computer!). Within a few months of this new duo's first gig they found themselves in sold out venues supporting the likes of Holy Fuck, To Rococo Rot and others. The explosive live act has travelled far and wide, from Lithuania to California, playing alongside diverse acts such as Aphex Twin, Jaki Liebezeit , Prefuse 73, and Daedelus. Chris Walmsley (AKA 'All Traps Set') also made a guest appearance on latest album 'Cambio Wechsel', providing the heavy rhythmic backdrop to the bass driven 'Closed Cup Headroom'. Kelpe has also shone as an innovative remixer, re-working Red Snapper, Jean Jacques Perrey, The Oscillation (DC), Eliot Lipp (Mush), Fulgeance (Musique Large) Architeq (Tirk) among others.

Fairmont

Fairmont
Fairmont is techno producer Jake Fairley of Toronto, Canada. Fairmont is his softer, more melodic house project. He has released singles through Border Community and Traum Schallplatten amongst others. He is also well known for his live performances.

Cut Copy

Cut Copy
Cut Copy is a synthpop band formed in 2001 at Melbourne, Australia, and made up of Dan Whitford (lead vocals/keys/guitar), Tim Hoey (bass/guitar) and Mitchell Scott (drums), Bennett Foddy being a former member. Their sound is much in the vein of contemporaries such as Daft Punk, drawing considerable influence from older bands such as New Order, Electric Light Orchestra and Kraftwerk. It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford, however in 2003 Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney. In 2004 Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: Saturdays, Future, and Going Nowhere, . They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club. Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: So Haunted, Hearts On Fire, Lights and Music, and Far Away. Cut Copy will release a new album in 2011. Aeroplane

Aeroplane
Today's electronic dance culture is due for a melodic transcendence from the shadowy, industrial electro that has been hammering away at the scene. As dance floors begin to buckle under such weighty beats, the Belgium-based band aptly named Aeroplane is dedicated to elevating its fans toward a higher musical space undefined by standardized genres. They reach for freedom from constraints of predictability, weaving currents of psychedelic guitars, pop keys, disco beats, catchy bass lines and melancholic waves into a singular connection of modern beat-driven music. At the controls of Aeroplane are Stephen Fasano and Vito Deluca, a duo whose combined experience gives life and emotion to the music. Vito brings with him a producer background that pulsates the hands and heart of Aeroplane, and Stephen's DJ roots vibrate the eyes and soul. Their unique collaboration of sound and purpose is channelling appreciation from among the biggest DJs and producers around, and the 2007 release of their first 12" entitled "Caramellas/Aeroplane" (Eskimo Recordings) has generated a jet stream of increasing momentum. Subsequent releases have kept their ring tones looping with remix requests from artists like Cobra Dukes, Das Pop, Lindström, Cut Copy, Grace Jones, MGMT, Bloc Party, and Friendly Fires. Projects like these reinforce the integration of electronic music into the omnipresent indie scene. Blends of Cosmic Nu Disco, Psychedelic, Balearic, Emo, etc. are forming a new era of musical hybrids, and explorations are officially under way. After all, machines are human too... Aeroplane's orbit originated from an unlikely dot on the globe called Walonie, in the southern French part of Belgium. Stephen's ravenous musical addiction led him to a record pusher named Vito, whose shop became the launch point for their combined vision. As a duo, they fuel up on every ray of light that breaks through their similar backgrounds. Of mutual Italian descent, both were born and raised amid the smoky gray of the industrial Brussels suburbs. Their music dissolves those clouds and celebrates a cosmic hope they've carried with them, each determined to find harmony in life among family, friends and fans. Early 2009 finds Aeroplane somewhere above the clouds, producing their much-anticipated full-length album and, as always, mapping a return to something new.

Plastic Operator

Plastic Operator
Mathieu Gendreau (electronics) & Pieter Van Dessel (vocals / electronics) are Plastic Operator. Respectively hailing from Montreal and Antwerp, the pair met at London's Westminster University in 2001 where they were both studying audio production. Bonding over a shared love of two decades of fine electronic and indie music the pair began to make sweet music together. When the course finished Pieter returned to Antwerp to work on sound design for film and play in a few bands, and Mathieu remained in London to work as a sound engineer and record producer, working with a broad cross-section of the UK's musical talent. The pair kept up their collaborative efforts over the internet, meeting face to face in either London or Antwerp once a month. In 2004, their efforts came to fruition when then the pair released their debut three track CD through a handful of record shops, with Rough Trade making it their CD of the week. Once the tracks were out there in the public domain, things accelerated at a pace no-one could have predicted. The lead track from the CD, 'Folder', had been posted on a web blog, and within weeks Plastic Operator were receiving emails from fans in New York, Mexico City and Bangkok enquiring about the group. Radio stations as far apart as California, New Zealand and Tijuana began championing the song. In London Radio 1's Rob Da Bank began playing the track on his Blue Room show, eventually signing the track to his Sunday Best label. Plastic Operator have just released their debut album, "Different Places", on May 14, 2007 on Fine Day Records in Europe. The album will be out in Japan on P-Vine/Fine Day Records on 5th October 2007.

Dj Hype

Dj Hype
Essentially Hype is to drum and bass as Afrika Bambaata was to the development of hip-hop. He first became involved in music through the legendary Shut Up and Dance sound system, like many before him his interest growing from physically building the speakers that made up the rig to DJ'ing, spinning reggae, house and hip hop throughout the eighties. As time passed, his skills behind the turntable grew to the extent of winning the London heat of the 1989 DMC's and going on to represent Britain in the European championships." While continuing to play at high capacity events Hype also made the move into radio, becoming involved with influential pirate station Fantasy FM before taking up a position at Kiss FM - his Sunday night sessions some of the most popular and securing him Best Male DJ and Best Radio DJ at subsequent Hardcore Awards." His time in the studio began at Kickin', co-producing The Scientist's seminal 'Exorcist' and 'The Bee' before laying down tracks for a number of other labels - the most notable of which, Suburban Base, saw him compiling the still highly sought after 'Drum and Bass Selection' series in addition to notching up his own underground smashes in the form of 'Trooper' and 'Shot In The Dark' while touching upon the charts with 'Isotonic' on FFRR." With substantial success, it was only a matter of time before Hype established his own label, "Ganja", in 1993, working closely with fellow ex-Suburban Base artist and friend Pascal. 'Cops' opened up the play for his Ganja imprint which was later to feature 'Ganja Man' and Zinc's legendary 'Super Sharp Shooter,' before peaking with the 'Still Smokin' album, a collaborative effort with Pascal's Frontline Records. Perhaps surprisingly considering the subsequent runaway success of the label, the intention was never specific, as Hype explains." 'Ganja Records was never meant to be anything, I was never planning on building anything from it, and it was just a knock up as I wanted a label to put some tunes on. As the label built itself without me really having to do anything I realised that if I did choose to put some effort into something I could build something really strong. I'd been encouraging Zinc to do his own thing for some time, though since he didn't really want to be out on his own - myself, Zinc and Pascal decided to set up a label as a collective.' Having flirted with major's in the form of a deal with RCA/Parousia as Ganja Crew in 1997, the threesome backed out of renewing their options choosing instead to retain their independence through establishing their own True Playaz. Hype explains his Philosophy. 'There are two things which keep me going. Firstly, I haven't got anything else - this is it for me so I've got to keep it going - I look at what I have and music has got me everything in my life as well as enabling me to help my family. Secondly I see the enthusiasm for this music from people all over the world. This year alone we've dj'd all over the world; Spain, Canada, Switzerland, Estonia and we know that the whole planet wants it. When you've evolved with something and become part of it on a level where you know that there is such a love for it - it becomes something very special to you. To think five years ago no one could have ever have contemplated that this music would be where it is now. The day I'm playing out and the audience doesn't like it anymore I'll probably move onto something else.'

Shinedoe

Shinedoe
Shinedoe started performing as a dancer at an early age of 15. Inspired by her African heritage and influenced by music of the early 1980s, she performed at clubs, video-clips, and bands like Quazar and Warp, to name a few. Her mission was to translate the music through her dance movement. After performing for 4 years as a dancer throughout Europe, she decided to stop and focus on other things such as buying electronic music records for personal use, and producing mix tapes for friends. Her music then was a mixture of US garage, Detroit techno and house. As a result of the mix tapes, her first gig happened at Club "Ja" in Amsterdam. She seriously started mixing music at the age of 19; she got her debut booking in 1995 at the VIP-club (Paradiso) in Amsterdam, where she rocked the place and became resident DJ. Also, she was offered a residency at Club Stalker in Harlem. Ever since 1995, she played at all the big festivals, clubs and parties in the Netherlands, from Dance Valley to Awakenings. Also promoters from abroad got interested in her DJ-sets, which resulted in bookings in various countries, such as Germany, Moscow, Spain, Italy, Sweden, China, Bosnia, Israel, Slovenia, Croatia, to name but few. Parallel, from around 1997 until 2000 she played drum 'n bass under the pseudonym "Black Magic Queen". After a while she decided to focus on tech-house and techno only. Shinedoe spins a variety of funky groove minimal techno-sets with tech-house, Chicago, acid and Detroit influences. She likes to keep her sets interesting by combining different flows. The crowd adores her because she knows how to rock the place. apparat

apparat
Apparat is a German electronic musician (Sascha Ring) living in Berlin who since 1999 has been running the Berlin based record label "Shitkatapult" together with T.Raumschmiere. Starting out with dance floor-oriented techno, he later started to create ambient music and recently became "more interested in designing sounds than beats". Recent music is closer to glitch, clicks and cuts or idm, accompanied with classical string instruments and other sounds. He works with his own tool created in MAX/MSP framework. Effects are controlled by midicontroller. "While sensitively orchestrating his chamber musical qualities on his records or in his studio, his live performances are known for kicking some ass!" From Shitkatapult website He collaborated with Ellen Allien in 2003 on the album Berlinette, and again in 2006 on the album Orchestra of Bubbles.

65DAYSOFSTATIC

65DAYSOFSTATIC
65daysofstatic began in Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2001 as Iain Armstrong, Paul Wolinski and Joe Shrewsbury. Contrary to popular belief, they did not originally form to try to write music to fit the unreleased and little known John Carpenter film, 'Stealth Bomber' (starring Kurt Russell). Instead, they took their name from the 1954 CIA-backed coup d'etat in Guatemala. There, the CIA disabled Guatemalan communication systems while spreading propaganda, leading to the overthrow of the government. 65daysofstatic (also known by the abbreviation 65dos or 65days) are an instrumental electronic and post-rock band from Sheffield, UK. Their debut album, The Fall of Math (2004), was released to critical acclaim. The band intersperses heavy, progressive, guitar-driven instrumental sections with both idm-esque programmed and live drums. Their albums, as a result, maintain a distinctively gritty, almost industrial feel. Armstrong left in May 2003, Feedle (Graham Clarke) then joined for a brief period and played a part in writing the band's first single from The Fall of Math, Retreat! Retreat!. By the end of 2003 Rob Jones (drums) and Gareth Hughes (bass) had been recruited, increasing the band to four members. Gareth left around the time of the release of their debut album, The Fall of Math, to be replaced by Simon Wright. The second album, One Time for All Time (2005), had a discrete success. In the same year they remixed Burn from the album Crimson by Alkaline Trio. The track appears on one 7inch vinyl out of a set of 2. The third LP, The Destruction of Small Ideas (2007), was indeed a hit with fans and critics. It was anticipated by the release of its single Don't Go Down to Sorrow. Their live album, Escape from New York, was released on 20th April 2009 and featured two new tracks: No Use Crying Over (Some Techno) and Four Score and (Some Drum 'n' Bass). The fourth LP, We Were Exploding Anyway (2010) will be released on 26th April 2010. It has been anticipated by the release, in Japan only, of a single from the album entitled WEAK4. Interesting fact: Early Arctic Monkeys have been supporting 65daysofstatic on their tour http://www.65daysofstatic.com http://www.myspace.com/11488230

Shit Robot

Shit Robot
Marcus Lambkin began DJing in 1992 after moving to NYC from Dublin. There he got together with some friends to play dance music on a Sunday night at the now famous rock venue, Brownies. After learning the ropes at Brownies, Marcus made a mix tape and handed it out to three venues in the hopes of getting some work. He got three gigs, which went on to become two residencies. One of which was the now legendary Save The Robots, where Marcus was resident for 2 years. During this time Marcus met fellow Irishman Dominique Keegan and formed Plant Records, Plant Saturdays and Plant Bar. The latter went on be called the "coolest and loudest bar in New York City" by face magazine (10/02). It was at Plant Bar that Marcus and DFA's James Murphy started the Shit Robot party, named after James' crap robot drawing... In 2004, Marcus left Plant to work independently and moved to Stuttgart with his wife. In April 2006 'the wrong galaxy' and 'triumph!!' 12" was released on DFA records and since then Marcus has been DJing around the world including his new favorites Japan and Brazil.

EZ ROLLERS

EZ ROLLERS
EZ Rollers are Alex Banks and Jay Hurren - two longtime friends from the small East Anglian town of Beccles. This may seem unusual to those outside of drum & bass circles, but Beccles is actually a hotbed of drum & bass talent. Besides EZ Rollers, acts associated with the town include PFM, Flytronix, JMJ & Richie and Hyper-on Experience. JMJ is actually Jay from EZ Rollers and Hyper-on is Alex's former project with Danny Flytronix. EZ Rollers have been signed exclusively to Moving Shadow since their first single "Rolled Into One / Believe" in 1994, but their association with the label goes right back to the early 90s when Hyper-On Experience released classic darkcore tracks like "Lord Of The Null Lines." Ironically, this sound couldn't be further removed from what Alex and EZ Rollers are about. As Alex already knew Jay and liked what he was doing with Richie, they got together to do some tunes. Things clicked immediately with the aforementioned "Rolled Into One" EP. Rob Playford liked it so much in fact, he told them to do an album. "Dimensions Of Sound" was released in 1996 and, with a few singles in between, here they are with the follow-up, "Weekend World".

Le Peuple De Herbe

Le Peuple De Herbe
A group from Lyon, France, with a very original sound, made by mixing hip hop, d'n'b, rock, dub, jungle, jazz, trip hop. They are famous for their hypnotising live acts.
After 2 albums "triple 000 " and "P.H. Test Two" ( 100 000 copies together), Le Peuple de l'Herbe came back in early 2005 with their much awaited third album "Cube". This is their first work featuring British rapper JC001 as full band member, after prior collaborations as MC and with his former band UK Apache. A new evolution for a band created by 2 hip hop and jungle oriented DJ's, later joined by a trumpet player and a rock drummer for a more organic sound.
Using their live experience ( more than 300 gigs all over Europe in 5 years), it's in their own studio - The Supadope factory in Lyon (France) - that they recorded "Cube". Their latest album was released November 2006 and is called "Radio Blood Money". Combining their passion for hip-hop, electro, dub and rock, the music of " Le Peuple" reaches a new dimension mixing high energy, distinc grooves, unconventional melodies, elegance and thier legendary fun and party attitude.

STEREO MC'S

STEREO MC'S
Stereo MCs are a British rap group formed in 1985 in London, England. The group consists of Rob Birch (vocals), Nick "The Head" Hallam (turntables, production), Cath Coffey (backing vocals) and Ian "Owen If" Rossiter (drums). They are best known for their 1992 single "Connected" which was a major hit in the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as a crossover success on American alternative rock radio. Rob B, the indomitable front man behind arguably the biggest selling hip hop group the UK has produced to date, is a man ready to let the music do the talking once again. Brit Awards (x2), Mercury Music Prize shortlists and world tours - all these are of little relevance to the Stereo MCs today, in 2005, on the cusp of releasing their opus to freedom and 5th studio album 'Paradise' on their brand new Graffiti Recordings imprint. Rob Birch and Nick Hallam met in Nottingham in the mid-80s before relocating to London, forming the first incarnation of Stereo MCs and producing debut album '33 45 78' - a labour of love that involved hand-making drum loops in the most rudimentary of studios and crafting the blueprint for their sound. It was undoubtedly a raw record, but utterly original, drawing the attention of the likes of the Jungle Brothers who would soon feature in a star turn on the second album 'Supernatural', released in 1990. By creating a very British take on a very American discipline, influenced as it was by the rising tide of acid house as much as Public Enemy and the early rap pioneers, Stereo MCs had created what no British group had managed before - credible Hip Hop from London able to appeal to the masses. Touring their most successful album to date, 1992s chart smash 'Connected', with the likes of U2 and Happy Mondays cemented their position as musical icons of the 90s, and with sensational live shows, celebrated mix albums and increasingly high DJ profiles, it was not until 2001 that the band's fourth LP 'Deep Down and Dirty' was released amidst a whirl of expectation. "When that record came out in 2001 the whole feeling was very defensive, like any minute the door was going to swing open and ten people were waiting to pounce on us. The expectation was great, and it was hard not to be influenced by it. We were braced and tight, and didn't find ourselves in a position to enjoy what we were doing." If there's one thing that is certain about the Stereo MCs, they are a band very much influenced by their surroundings, in need of being comfortable within them and in control of them both on an immediate and wider scale. Now, from the studio base affectionately referred to as their 'front room' (also coincidentally slap bang on Brixton's frontline, just to give you a less congenial feel), Nick and Rob, writing again with a refreshed sense of creativity, have conjured yet another beautiful step in their continuing evolution as a band. Retaining their trademark throbbing bass bounce and injecting a healthy dose of soul, its unmistakably a Stereo MCs album but their liberation from the major label shackles has dusted the whole affair in a laid back optimism that was perhaps notable by its absence on Deep Down and Dirty. The new record is all about challenging people's preconceptions of the Stereo MCs, and the fact that they really don't sound like any other band before or since their 1989 debut '33 45 78' is counting in their favour. The opening track, Warhead, is an opening statement with an attitude that they are keen to convey, with immediately recognisable blend of bass, horns and keys, which sit in sharp contrast to Rob B's laconic rhyming style. Unwittingly bordering on the very crux of Stereo MCs popularity, in the band's own words it touches on a certain catchiness without becoming pop. It has an intent and walks a line which feels right for the band.

He started spinning in the early 80ies and became head of music for Austria's famous and nationwide independent radio station FM4 in 1995. Makossa has compiled over 20 successful compilations in the last ten years. (Fm4's Soundselections, Sunny Side Up, Dub Club,) After a few remixes & productions for/with Uptight, Sofa Surfers & Peter Kruder in the mid 90ies, he finally teamed up with long-time friend Megablast. Sascha Weisz aka MEGABLAST started in the early 90ies as DJ/Producer. Initially inspired by Dope Beats, Reggae, and Hip Hop, he soon developed a passion for Acid House, Tribal and Electro. Ian Pooley

Ian Pooley
German techno/house musician Ian Pooley (real name Ian Pinnekamp) debuted as half of T'N'I, a duo with dj Thomas "Tonka" Gerlach that released the EP Low Mass (Force Inc, 1991). The two morphed into Space Cube and eventually parted ways. His early singles were collected on the first full-length under his own name, The Times (Force Inc, 1996). Meridian (V2, 1998) was substantially different from the "hard" style that had made his fortune, incorporating elements of pop, disco, soul and even jazz. Since Then (V2, 2000) turned to samba and bossanova to create a Brazilian saudade-like atmosphere in the dancefloor. Souvenirs (Ministry of Sound, 2004) is bolder but also a bit outdated in its resurrection of disco motifs. Hmm.... Ian's just one of the best deep house DJs around. His tune selection is just awesome - he's just got it nailed on the beaty but mellow into sexy house tip. His remixes are all phat and you only need to listen to 1 or 2 of his 2007-9 dj mixes to see where he goes over an hour to 90 minutes. I still like the noel nanton remix, but i'm old and boring :) Wish he played a bit more in the UK, but he's pretty much the first DJ I lturn to for quality modern deep house. Lovin' it, good times dude :)

Hooverphonic

Hooverphonic
Hooverphonic is a Belgian rock/pop group formed in 1995. Though initially placed in the trip-hop genre, they quickly expanded their sound to the point where they could no longer be classified so easily. The band originally called themselves Hoover but later changed their name to Hooverphonic due to other groups using the Hoover name. The band achieved international recognition through the inclusion of the track 2Wicky (from A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular) on the soundtrack to Bernardo Bertolucci's 1996 film Stealing Beauty (Io Ballo da Sola). The original members of the group were vocalist Liesje Sadonius, keyboardist Frank Duchêne, bass guitarist and programmer Alex Callier, and guitarist Raymond Geerts. Sadonius left Hooverphonic on amicable terms shortly after the release of A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular and was replaced by Geike Arnaert in early 1998. Duchêne left the band after Blue Wonder Power Milk. By the end of 2008 Hooverphonic announced that Geike Arnaert was leaving the band. Last we heard, Hooverphonic were still looking for a new lead singer. Hooverphonic released their fifth studio album No More Sweet Music in November 2005, featuring four singles: Wake Up, You Hurt Me, Dirty Lenses and We All Float. One year later they released a Best Of album called Singles 96-06. This was their latest release under the Sony label. Hooverphonic released their latest album The President Of The LSD Golf Club on 8th October 2007 in Belgium and Holland, which includes the single Expedition Impossible. European Release January 2008 (although available via mail-order). This was an independent release, recorded at the Willie Nelson studios in the USA. At the time of writing, it isn't known if it was also released in North America. Let us know if you can confirm this? On October the 10th '08 the management announced that Geike Arnaert will be leaving the band. Jeff Mills

Jeff Mills
In the course of the eighties Jeff Mills was an influential radio DJ on WJLB under the pseudonym The Wizard. Mills' sets were a highlight of the nightly show from "The Electrifying Mojo," Charles Johnson. Complimenting Mojo's eclectic playlists, Mills would spin obscure detroit techno, hiphop, electro, freestyle, miami bass, chicago house and classic new wave tracks. In going on to create his own music Mills is credited with laying the foundations for legendary detroit techno collective, Underground Resistance, alongside 'Mad' Mike Banks, a former Parliament bass player. Just like Public Enemy did some years before in hiphop, these men confronted the mainstream music industry with revolutionary rhetoric. Dressed in uniforms with skimasks and black combat suits, they were 'men on a mission', aiming at giving techno more content and meaning. Mills would never leave UR officially, but later on he still went his own way. He moved to New York and after a short stay in Berlin (recording for Tresor) ended up in Chicago. There in 1992, with Robert Hood, he set up his most important record label, Axis, aiming for a simpler more minimal sound than most of the techno being produced in those years. Later sub-labels were announced Purposemaker, Tomorrow, and 6277. His albums and EPs are mostly separate tracks of his compositions, which Mills would mix into the live DJ sets for which he became a legend. Mills has been credited for his exceptional turntable skills. Tracks are almost chopped to bits to showcase the strongest fragments for his relentless sound collages. Three decks, a Roland 909 drum-machine and seventy records in one hour: at breakneck speed Mills manipulates beats and basslines, vinyl and frequencies. The live album "Mix-Up Volume 2" is a highly-regarded example of Mills' 1990's stage show (recorded at the Liquid Room in Tokyo). For a later live show (in 2004) try the "Exhibitionist" album. More recently he appears to be taking extended forays into epic techno (such as his re-scoring of Metropolis (which he performed live with the original film) and his 16 September 2004 7 hour set with Laurent Garnier at Fabric. The epic proportions were further extended when his 2006 album "Blue Potential" was recorded with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra under Alain Altinoglu. There is a DVD of the concert at which the album recorded, an opportunity to see Mills in action, live on stage.

Lopazz

Lopazz
Since 1994 Stefan Eichinger a.k.a. Lopazz has been part of the Heidelberg based HD800 team. He also runs the multimedia label 800achtspur, and is renowned as a film composer, having written more than 30 scores over the years. In 2001, he had success with Redagain P when they remixed the Miami Vice theme; then, in 2003, Lopazz's self-titled EP was released by Output Recordings, followed by the singles "Blood" (including a Tiefschwarz remix) and his first bona fide club hit "I Need Ya" (later re-licensed by French fashion label Colette). It's success led to Lopazz remixing Germany's biggest pop act Xavier Nadoo, while techno legend Sven Väth snapped up "I Need Ya" for his Sound of the Fourth Season mix CD. Stefan's relationship with Berlin-based Get Physical Music began when he was commissioned to remix Chelonis R. Jones' "Don't Know". The label went on to issue Lopazz's own vocal track "Migracion", which was subsequently remixed by Chilean superstars Luciano and Ricardo Vilallobos. Releases for Compost Black Label, Output and Lasergun followed, along with remixes for the likes of Isolee, Product 01 and Richard Bartz.

Carl Craig

Carl Craig
Carl Craig is a Detroit-based producer of techno music, and is considered to be one of the most important names in the Detroit second generation of techno producers and DJs. Like many of his peers, Carl Craig has approached techno using inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including jazz and soul. Carl Craig has released many successful albums under a large number of aliases, such as BFC, Psyche, Paperclip People, 69, Designer Music and Innerzone Orchestra. Using one alias, Innerzone Orchestra, he released perhaps his best-known track "Bug In The Bassbin" in 1992, a track that many regard as being a key influence in the then evolving sound of drum and bass. Carl Craig has also created his own record label called "Planet E", which apart from his own work, has released records by well known techno and house artists like Kevin Saunderson, Alton Miller and Moodymann. Craig served as artistic director for the widely successful Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 and 2001. His subsequent dismissal by festival organizers caused substantial controversy within the Detroit techno community, igniting a high-profile campaign in his favor.[2] In 2001, Craig filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against festival producer Pop Culture Media.[3] Part of what makes Craig's style so unique and separates him from much of the normal "Detroit Techno" sound, including current works, are his remixes of world beat and jazz songs. This has helped spark a new movement of electronic music.

Loefah

Loefah
Nuff said, zeggen wij dan.

aMute

aMute
aMute is a project born in the mind of Jérôme Deuson. He was born somewhere near Namur and raised somewhere in the south of Belgium. He was given his first guitar at the age of 11 and never really looked back since. He followed the well known path of playing in a couple of bands, moving to the big city, playing in a couple of more bands, few concerts, so on. In 2002 Jérôme started his solo project called aMute, a compromise between his passion for so called "Post Rock", with its traditionally sad melodies, and his taste of all glitches and treatment softwares. After two albums released on the Canadian label Intr-Version Records, aMute has now become a band. Samuel Volan, Thomas Venegoni and Julien Paschal teamed with Deuson to deliver the message of their brand new album "Infernal Heights For A Drama" out on Stilll in March 2009.

Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco
Simian Mobile Disco is an English production and remix team. Formed from the ashes of Simian in 2005 its members are James Ford and Jas Shaw. In addition to his work with Simian Mobile Disco, James Ford is a producer and has worked for bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, Peaches and Klaxons. Simian Mobile Disco was originally formed as a traveling DJ duet, playing on the side of their early four-piece band Simian. They ultimately released a number of low profile singles, such as "The Count" on Kitsuné Music, but arguably gained more fame for their remixes of artists such as Muse, Klaxons, The Go! Team, Air and others. In 2006, Kitsuné released SMD's underground hit "Hustler", which features a vocal performance from New York singer Char Johnson. Musically, Simian Mobile Disco is known for heavily stylized tracks %u2014often with minimal instrumentation%u2014 that associate themselves with a particular hook (vocal or instrumental %u2014see mix of "Whoo! Alright, Yeah...Uh Huh" by The Rapture), which is repeated throughout the track. There is often a breakdown (occasionally more %u2014see mix of "Magick" by Klaxons) comprising noise, drums and sometimes synths and vocals. The band's debut album, Attack Decay Sustain Release was released on 18 June 2007 on Wichita Recordings. Among the tracks included on it are "Hustler", "Tits and Acid", "I Believe", "Hot Dog" and lead single "It's the Beat", which features Ninja from UK indie band The Go! Team on vocals. The album contains five new tracks, and the European version includes a bonus disc. The album was preceded by two mix compilations in April and May, for the "Bugged Out" and "Go Commando" series respectively. SMD supported Klaxons at Brixton Academy on the 5 December 2007 and The Chemical Brothers at Aintree Pavilion on 9 December 2007 and Brighton Centre on 12 December 2007. SMD made a mix for Mixmag that came free with the January 2008 issue of Mixmag. While working on their second studio album, they released a collection of remixed SMD originals entitled Sample and Hold, which contains eleven tracks and was released in the UK on July 28, 2008. A North American date has not yet been announced. In January 2009, they announced on their Myspace page that a new album was supposed to come out in 2009. Soon after that, they released a new track "Synthesise", on 12 February, through a music video (directed by Kate Moross and Alex Sushon) that "features live visual accompaniment" for the track. Two days later, a new song was broadcast on the BBC Radio 1 named "10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong", soon followed by the release on 6 March of the official music video on their YouTube channel. Their sophomore studio album Temporary Pleasure was finally announced on the 6 May, featuring many guests that they have encountered by their work as producers or their worldly tour including Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, Beth Ditto of Gossip, and Chris Keating of Yeasayer. On New Years Eve 2009 Simian Mobile Disco will headline 'Get Loaded in the Dark' at the world famous Brixton Academy alongside Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Chase & Status, Herve and Sub Focus. On NYE SMD headlined The Greatest Show on Earth at Motion in Bristol with the Bugged Out rig and rocked.

His big youth passion, however, was HipHop. He was fascinated by the likes of Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Prince Paul but also by Todd Terry's early HipHouse tunes or Detroit techno originators Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. After having bought two turntables and a mixer, he began deejayin' Hip Hop in 1992. The deejay culture of the Hip Hop movement was his link to electronic music. He started deejaying at different clubs all around Switzerland and became resident at the world famous Club Trax @ Rohstofflager in Zürich and got well known for his 3-deck mixing skills and sets blurring the lines between Techno, House- and Detroit-classics. He made his first sound experiments with a sampler in 1994 and from then on continuously built up his own studio because of his avid interest in electronic sounds. An introduction to Stefan Riesen from Phont Music in 1997 led to his first release as Soul Mate on Phont Music. He then travelled to Japan for deejaying in 1999 and recorded the ?Double Exposure Vol. 1? EP with DJ Shufflemaster in Tokyo, again for Phont Music. In the year 2000 he was contacted for an EP by In-tec records where he released the very successful Alien Entertainment EP? which was hammered by the likes of Jay Denham, Claude Young, Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier and attracted attention from press and listeners worldwide. In 2001 'Dolls for a diva' was released on the highly acclaimed Music Man label in January, the start of a strong relationship with this label from Belgium. New EP?s followed on Dave Angel's Rotation (Vertigo EP), Jay Denham?s Black Nation/Sector 616 (Dancing manual EP), Steve Bicknell's Cosmic (as Karakter), Ongaku (Lorraine EP) and Phont Music (Cut Back EP). Sam remixed Samuel L. Session, Ben Sims, Damon Wild, Steve Bicknell (as Karakter), K-Alexy Shelby, Orlando Voorn, Paul Mac and others. His energetic DJ- sets reached clubs in Holland, Belgium, England, Germany, Austria and a promotional DJ-tour in Australia took place in July 2001. After the Outerworld EP on Music Man and several remixes in early 2002 the highly acclaimed debut Mix-Compilation by Deetron has been released in June by Music Man, which gained a lot of praise from press worldwide and gave his worldwide DJ-Schedule a boost by making it as hectic as never before. He travelled to Spain, Croatia, France, Belgium, Holland, Australia, Singapore, Japan, China, Czech Republic, Poland, Macedonia and more places all around the globe. The anticipated cooperation with Samuel L. Session released in July on SLS, remixes for Ben Sims, Damon Wild and Gary Martin amongst others highlighted his production work. Deetron will start the new year with a brand new single coming out on Music Man in February, including the tracks 'Body Language' and 'Uncutfunk'. Furthermore he is preparing his Debut Album for Music Man to be released in 2003 and remixes for Vince Watson and Mark Broom.

James Holden

James Holden
James Holden is far from your average DJ-producer. The wunderkind James Holden has finally come of age, and has delivered up the debut album to prove it: and at 28, about time too! For although the world seems strangely intent on fixing him in his early twenties (or more specifically, a series of internet sites who have seemingly overlooked the fact that biography ages require a yearly update!), the time has come to acknowledge that DJ and producer James Holden is not quite so young anymore. The timely release of Holden's 'The Idiots Are Winning' mini-album in 2006 marked the occasion, and formed a fitting musical illustration of Holden's new-found maturity. Still reluctant to bestow upon it the accolade of 'debut album', for Holden himself 'The Idiots Are Winning' remains an EP which grew out of control: take four dancefloor-length Holden tracks, mix in the obligatory DJ tools and alternative versions that he is so keen on, and an interlude or two for good measure, and you have far exceeded the single realm and are pushing into album territory. Not that the manner of its creation should affect the listening experience: Holden's intricate and inimitable production style ensures a coherence of atmosphere, where even DJ-friendly extended intros hold up to home-listening scrutiny. The Guardian went so far as to proclaim it "the most astonishing debut in electronic music since Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children." And who are we to argue? The producer James Holden's journey to this point began back in 1999, aged just 19, when he burst onto the UK scene with the exuberant teenage trance hit 'Horizons'. Produced on a basic home computer set-up and the freeware music program Buzz whilst still studying towards a Maths degree at the University of Oxford, the young punk's overnight success was a slap in the face for the audiophile establishment, and went some way towards opening doors for the legions of young bedroom producers who have now become the mainstay of the dance world. The floodgates had opened, and an intensive course of remixing, djing, production and collaborations extended before Holden in place of the conventional Oxford graduate career path. But if the axis of English (and those related countries which take their lead from the Anglo-American progressive house and trance scenes) took to Holden overnight, the rest of the world took a little longer to convince. It was not until the launch of his own Border Community label in 2003, kicked off in fine style with his own future anthem 'A Break in the Clouds', when key players in the hugely influential German scene began to sit up and take notice. Having found himself wedged rather uncomfortably between the prog and trance scenes in his native UK, this entrance into the German market represented a new-found freedom for Holden, and the non-generic approach to making melodic electronic music which he found amongst many of his peers in Cologne and Berlin finally had him feeling right at home. A string of hugely-influential and often-imitated monster remixes of everyone from Madonna and Britney Spears, through Depeche Mode and New Order, to Nathan Fake and Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid cemented his place as a mainstay of DJ record boxes everywhere, and Holden's global dancefloor domination was complete. Originally founded to offer a restriction-free outlet for Holden's own music, as well as serving as a launch pad for the production careers of his talented friends, the rather fanatical cult of Border Community which has sprung up around Holden's own label has of course been essential in achieving this independence from the narrow limitations of genre-specific music. The accolades due to Holden's Border Community baby include bucking the trend of declining vinyl sales in a major way, unleashing a whole host of idiosyncratic dancefloor classics on the world, kickstarting the careers of many a young musician, and making serious inroads on the realm of the artist album with offerings from Nathan Fake, Fairmont and Holden himself. Now in its fifth year, Border Community is firmly established as one of the foremost breeding grounds for fresh young electronic talent, thanks to their small but faithful army of free-spirited genre benders who between them have injected a new life into the European scene. The best place to catch a glimpse of the soon-to-be-massive delights yet to come from his Border Community label is of course a James Holden DJ set, where his tireless dedication to hunting down the next wave of young production talent meets his own sense of exemplary taste in selecting tracks from other labels to bring his unique vision of what club music ought to be to life. Barely coming up for air between his non-stop sampler and CDJ wizardry, Holden is a very modern sort of DJ, brazenly uniting tracks from music's past and present, disregarding genre, confounding the purists and making club hits out of many an unwitting dancefloor virgin. His supreme and unrivalled command of the modern technology available to him allows Holden to go where other DJs fear to tread, consistently pulling off daring mixes on-the-fly which just wouldn't be possible on a conventional two turntable set-up. And so distinct is the resultant sound that your average conservative dance music night can barely contain it, which is why James Holden is often best experienced alongside his edgy labelmates at one of his many Border Community label nights, at The End in London, and beyond. Between a hectic touring schedule which has taken in just about every corner of the world, running his Zeitgeist-defining label, and his status as hugely in-demand remixer du jour, it is little wonder that Holden's own original productions have occasionally seemed a little thin on the ground. But something has got to give if Renaissance man Holden is ever going to finish his next album, which is why his plans for 2008 feature a scaled down set of DJ dates and a strictly-enforced remix embargo. With that all-important studio time freed up, the time has come to begin plotting the next chapter in the James Holden story.

Barbara Morgenstern

Barbara Morgenstern
After a long period of playing in bands, singing in an acapella-band and having bad experiences with major-label-deals Barbara Morgenstern started to concentrate on her own songs. An old friend (Joe Tabu) started to organize concerts in his living room (in 1996) to create a more concentrated and intimate atmosphere during the performance, keep the focus on the music and to have the possibility to perform without being well known or having much publicity. As a member of the so-called Wohnzimmer-Szene (livingroom scene) Morgenstern did her first record Enter the Partyzone - a cassette with 6 trash keyboard songs on it. After that things developed slowly but constantly. She did a tour with all the bands who got known by their concerts in the living room and "that was the point when we realized that the whole thing was over cause although playing in clubs was not the main idea, we wanted to play and reach people." Barbara Morgenstern did a second album in 1997 - Plastikreport -on a small german Label called Klub der guten Hoffnung a label based on the idea of networking, selling the records at concerts and supporting each other (e.g. organizing concerts for labelmates). Parallel to this Gudrun Gut founded her label Monika Enterprise a small independent label. She released the first Wohnzimmer Compilation and a lot of the bands of the Wohnzimmer Szene (Quarks, Contriva, Komeit). Barbara released her first full-length album in 1998 on Monika Enterprise - Gudrun Gut had discovered her at a Wohnzimmer concert - and from this moment on she started touring through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Morgenstern's next album was Fjorden (Monika Enterprise) in 2000 and after that Nichts Muss on Monika (2003) - in collaboration with Labels because she started to play throughout Europe as well (UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy , Scandinavia, Poland...). She did lots of concerts with the fabulous Berlin electronic band To Rococo Rot and Stefan Schneider´s Mapstation - with them she discovered the european audiences. In April 2002 Morgenstern released an EP on Domino Recordings (Series 500), including 4 Tracks together with Robert Lippok (To Rococo Rot). Barbara was invited by the German Goethe Institut to do a World Tour with Maximilian Hecker. They played in Berlin, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Porto Allegre, Sao Paulo, Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Ankara, Athen, Madrid, Brussels, Milano, Paris, Copenhagen, London, Stockholm, Glasgow, Tallinn, St. Petersburg and after a christmas-break kept on playing concerts from january 2004 in New York, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bombay, Tashkent , Jakarta, Bangkok, Hongkong, Shanghai, Peking and Sydney. Of course that was exciting. Having started in Berlin living-rooms and now having the chance to travel around the world. Before the World Tour Morgenstern took part in a recording session with Bills Wells, a wonderful musician from Scotland. His style is between Jazz and Post Rock, very gentle music. He invited Stefan Schneider and Annie Whitehead (a Trombone player who played with Robert Whyatt) to record an album with him. The album Pick up Sticks was released in April 2004 on the Leaf Label. The next thing that happened was the release of an album Morgenstern did with Stefan Schneider (To Rococo Rot) and Paul Wirkus a polish experimental electronic musician under the name September Collective on Geographic/ Domino Records in September 04. We played concerts in Germany, Poland and UK in spring 05. The Tesri album with Robert Lippok is finished and was released on Monika Enterprise in May 05. One highlight of the following gigs was a concert in Tokyo as part of an oceanclub night on october 9th 2005. They also played a lot of live shows in Europe during the year 2005. Barbara's fourth album the grass is always greener (monika47) was released last year. US tour dates are planned for fall 2007. Barbara Morgenstern International press quotes: "For some this music is a trip into their true self, for others it is just the best that the electro-pop scene has currently got to offer. And for some it's both." Die Zeit 11/03 "She successfully resists the do and dont's of the moment. And of course there's that nonochalant voice which, no matter how sad the words are, always suggests a smiling face." Spex "Beyond all cliches and categorisation remains a wonderful voice, hypnotic lyrics and a light, melodic sound scape. [...] - this is music for autum walks thourhgh the park, preferably with the sun low in the sky and a fresh breeze." www.woldingwacht.de "The good thing about Barbara Morgenstern is that she does everything right. She magically radiates energy and composes melodies that take you to giddy heights and leave your heart pounding." Goethe Institut "...You could have called that work Indietronic, but the term didn`t exist at the time. Even now, two years later, it won`t fit. yet it comes to mind, because `Fjorden` has obviously been recorded with new equipment and new technique. Still working out of her own studio, using sampler and sequencer in her instrumentation, Barbara Morgenstern tells us stories. Her wonderful, heartbreaking voice, adds context to the beats and sounds. "Fjorden", with its warm analog sound, is like a good friend visiting - rotating in your cd player. You are not alone. Barbara Morgenstern is there with her music. And it`s wonderful that she`s there!" Jan Ole Jöhnk, 8/2000 "...she captures odd sounds in her net -- cello draughts, a fly buzzing through a room, electric guitars that blast like gridlocked trucks -- and flows them seamlessly into the pop..." Other Music NY, 10/2000 "Berlin-based electronic indie-pop artist Barbara Morgenstern's vocals may not pirouette like Björk's or haunt like Tracy Thorn's, but they're still perfect. This is evident on her new recording, The Grass Is Greener, a collection of songs inspired by a recent Goethe Institut-sponsored world tour. Although she's been recording fine material since 1997, the dreamy, piano-constructed ballads of Grass should prove to be her breakthrough." earplug, April 2006 "there's barely a dud to be found, not even as the album takes on a busier and slightly more industrial aesthetic near the end. Confident, crafted and feminine, this is Morgenstern's finest record yet - let's hope she gets the audience she deserves." MONEY MARK

MONEY MARK
Mark Ramos-Nishita aka Money Mark is a producer and musician who has collaborated with the Beastie Boys many times, after meeting them as their carpenter. Most of his work is underground. He also appears on the first Banyan album as the Freeway Keyboardist. His first album, the relatively obscure Mark's Keyboard Repair (1995), was made up of keyboard driven pop-funk songs recorded at demo quality. It was followed up by the "Third Version EP" in 1996 and Push the Button in 1998. Whereas his 1996 EP was similar to his debut, "Push the Button" was extremely eclectic, combining aspects of Rock music and Pop with Soul, Funk and Hip-Hop. This inventive LP was met with good reviews, as was his 2001 follow up "Change is Coming" which had a tropical yet danceable disco and funk sound.

Total Science

Total Science
Paul Smith (Spinback) and Jason Greenhalgh (Q Project) are two of the most prolific producers within the drum & bass movement, recording for a plethora of different labels under a range of monikers. The pair first met in 1987, both living on Blackbird Leys estate in Oxford, England and brought together through a mutual love of hip-hop. Distracted by the arrival of hardcore in the early nineties, record collecting was quickly followed by DJ'ing and eventually production. Greenhalgh was the first into the studio, with "Freestyle Fanatic" launching his career in 1991. However it was the establishment of the Legend imprint and specifically Greenhalgh's "Champion Sound", which really took their profile above and beyond the slew of anonymous white labels that were dominating the music at the time. In 1994, the pair started recording together, with "Got to Believe" the first in a series of records which pushed the label away from the fizzling darkside movement and more towards the epic string sections and rolling beats which started to appear on labels like Lucky Spin, Basement and Good Looking. After six years of recording singles for others, the pair established the CIA label in the closing months of 1997 with the help of Brillo from Timeless. The release of their Silent Reign EP for Goldie's Metalheadz breathed a new lease of life into the project, and the pair achieved a further boost with a well-timed Bad Company remix of "Champion Sound" which conjured further interest in what they were doing at their own label. Their debut album Advance exposed a further field of interest, with downtempo experiments logged as a series of "Breaks" on the majority of their early EP's extended to some superb deep house, this breadth taken a step further with their Skin Deep imprint which has forged broken beat to considerable acclaim. Their pioneering of a revival in old-school sounds and arrangements, together with Digital and Reinforced, dominated drum & bass throughout 2001. and a darn good lookin couple o' chaps n' all.

Kate Wax

Kate Wax
We could have lost this half-European,half-Tibetan 26 year old artist to an award-winning career in graphic design. Kate Wax dumped the pixel massive to channel her creativity through music, having found the right machines much like one finds the right person to share life with. Born on the shores of Lake Geneva,Kate Wax traveled extensively to exotic locations early in life with her grandmother. Escaping to other worlds provided her with the inspiration to create imaginary ones for us today - and training as a soprano chorist fine-tuned her captivating crystal-clear voice. There is no shadow men/producer lending a hand to her music except on rare occasion, and that helping hand is bound to get slapped a few times : Kate Wax is in control. A much-impressed Felix da Housecat won't tell you otherwise. Remember "Let Your Mind Be Your Bed" and "Romantique" ? You probably do. DJ Assault the Detroit ghetto-tech icon has been the first to dare a remix. The music of Kate Wax will be filed under electro-pop,because it's electronic and retains the verse-chorus-verse format. But it's a highly personal hybrid, the result of do-it-yourself digital tinkering with influences ranging from early new-wave legends to 21st century neopop divas - she's got what it takes to become one herself. Her first self-written and produced album on Mental Groove Records Kate Wax new album "Reflections of th Dark Heat" features a rich blend of styles:up and downtempo minimal techno,electro-punk grime,ambient-industrial blues and more, all driven by her unique, warm and seductive vocal delivery. From old-school rapping to whispered lament,Kate Wax reveals a wide spectrum of emotions. Thirteen club jams and headphone listening tunes, switching from Bauhaus to PJ Harvey, from Cabaret Voltaire to Cologne techno and so on,often within the same track. Popping bass, reduced lo-fi 'bricolage' and breaks everywhere, Kate Wax builds her own universe with the mind of a techie and the grace of an Eurasian princess. Morphing into the sexy vamp, the unruly teenager, the melancholic girl-next-door,the club freak and a whole cast of characters you wish were your friends, her lyrics touch upon the subject of women in electronic music in a charismatic and self-affirming way. Goodbye plastic puppets, hello Kate Wax. Alone on stage in Germany, the UK... in Lebanon and Siberia even, she does much more than stand her ground looking fine. Kate Wax plays a mean live set with true stage presence and a strong connection to her audience that will only grow over time.

INFADELS

INFADELS
Infadels are a London-based rock band signed to the Wall of Sound record label. The band is known for its frenetic live shows. Their debut album, We Are Not the Infadels, was produced by Jagz Kooner and released in January 2006. The follow-up, entitled Universe In Reverse, was released in June 2008. Infadels were founded in 2003 by Bnann (vocals), Matt Gooderson (guitar, programming) and Alex Bruford (drums), who were joined shortly afterwards by Richie Vernon (live keys) and Wag Marshall-Page (Bass). The band released two singles, Leave Your Body and Can't Get Enough/Murder That Sound, on their own record label, Dead at Thirty. The awards for "Best Live Act" and "Best Dance Band" at the 2004 Diesel-U-Music Awards sealed a move to the Wall of Sound record label. In January 2005 the Infadels headed into the studio with producer Jagz Kooner to record their critically acclaimed debut album, We Are Not The Infadels. The band supported the release with an almost constant touring schedule with over 150 shows in 20 countries in 2006 alone. This included two UK tours, three European tours, two Australian tours, a number of shows in the USA & China and 35 festival dates. The band's second album, Universe In Reverse, was released in June 2008. Written largely by Bnann Watts and Matt Gooderson, and produced by Martin "Youth" Glover (The Verve, Guns N' Roses, Depeche Mode), Universe In Reverse makes the leap from dance tent to main stage, with a more urgent, rockier sound characterised by crashing guitars and revving hoover-synths. Guitarist Matt Gooderson described this evolution of the band's sound by saying: "We took the energy and guitars of a rock 'n' roll band like The White Stripes or Yeah Yeah Yeahs, then surrounded the music in deep, cinematic sounds." "Play Blind", the first material from the second album, was given away for free as a limited-time download in February 2008. The next single, "Make Mistakes", was released in April, and "Free Things For Poor People" was released in June 2008, reaching #1 on the UK Indie Singles Charts. On Tuesday the 17th of June, the band threw several thousand pounds from an office window in central London in celebration of their own "Free Things Day". The day was brought to an early close when the band and their fans were cautioned by the police. On Monday the 19th of August they were voted best band at the 2008 Lowlands festival by the Dutch public ahead of Editors and N*E*R*D. Drummer Alex Bruford is the son of drummer virtouso Bill Bruford, famous from bands such as King Crimson and Yes. Bassist Wag Marshall-Page is a friend of Danny Wallace, and is often mentioned in his books. In March 2009 the band announced via their MySpace page that they had already begun recording a follow-up to Universe In Reverse. In June 2009, the band confirmed their third album would be entitled, "The Future of The Gravity Boy" during their interview on 3FM's "That's Live!". In May 2009 the band released their first studio material since "Universe in Reverse", by making their cover of "Sweet Dreams" available on their website. The following month a new track, "Ghosts" was aired on Radio 1 by Alex Metric and backed up rumours of a return to the dance inspired sound of their debut album We Are Not The Infadels.

Etienne de Crécy has been involved in various music projects where he worked as a producer.

CHELONIS R. JONES

CHELONIS R. JONES
Chelonis R. Jones is an American artist who left his home of New York for the shores of Europe, in order to pursue a blossoming career in the world of arts. Armed with his paintbrushes, unpublished manuscripts, songs and poems, he decided to commit himself fully to the vitriolic world of the struggling artist and their sometimes fruitful plight. Working as a songwriter and playing vocalist in more than twenty rock/pop groups and pulling a handful of small artshows for his paintings were hardly usual. 2001 he was introduced and signed to Get Physical Music from the start! His first 2002 release 'One & One', a collaboration with M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade, started the ball rolling. 2003 followed "I don´t know" which topped the Belgium Dance Charts twice and put the artist on the map, with thousands of broken hearts to respond and relate. At the end both singles became unforgettable house classics. 2005 ignited the self produced, controversial, lo-fi masterpiece "Disclocated genius" which also dons an original canvas work cover and until 2008 he worked with many giants of electronic music like Röyksopp to Oliver Huntemann and Corrugated Tunnel to Marc Romboy and many more, wow! After countless shows, featurings, dramas and mountain's to climb, 2009 is to be the moment for the long awaited new long player entitled "Chatterton".

SUPERTHRILLER

SUPERTHRILLER
Imagine if peak period Prince had relocated Paisley Park to a subterranean studio below London Bridge and enlisted Tony Hancock as a writing partner: such is the sound of Superthriller. Not your typical avant-pop combo, Andrew Roland and brothers Ben and Max Ringham combine warped lo-fi funk, twisted humour and straightforward songwriting genius to create perfect pop nuggets that simultaneously move the hips and stimulate the mind.

High Contrast

High Contrast
As a winner of the Essential Mix of the Year 2007 on BBC's Radio 1, the name High Contrast needs no introduction, although when a young Lincoln Barrett signed on the dotted line back in 2000 he was a complete unknown. Signed on the strength of his mini-disc demos, the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the Drum & Bass scene in no time at all. His debut longplayer "True Colours" was released on Hospital to massive critical acclaim in June 2002, paving the way for a move onto the outernational DJ circuit and remixer of choice for many labels inside and outside of the Drum & Bass community. It was the club sessions and mixing skills that dominated the year following the release of "True Colours" - with Lincoln making a name for himself as one of the hottest Drum & Bass DJs around. In autumn 2004 he dropped the massive "High Society" LP, featuring the anthemic singles "Twilights Last Gleaming" and "Racing Green". The album has already become the stuff of legend, with Knowledge Magazine voting it into their top 3 jungle albums of the last 10 years. More recently after reaching Drum & Bass superstardom he has released mix albums for Fabric and Mixmag and seen his White Stripes remix all over Radio 1. Missy Elliot and Blaze have also come knocking for a Contrast remix and the world's dance floors have been blown apart by that Gold Digger booty. 2007 saw the High Contrast success story continue, with the single "If We Ever" getting play on Radio One, followed by arguably his finest album yet - "Tough Guys Don't Dance". Rounding the year off with yet another huge remix - this time for Axwell's Ibizan anthem "I Found You". As we speak, he's back on the road taking his brand of widescreen jungle soul to the people. "All killer no filler" says IDJ Magazine. Go catch some Contrast and see that they are spot on! High Contrast released a new album in 2007. The album "Tough Guys Don't Dance" was released on October 1, 2007 in the US. The single "Pink Flamingos" has gotten multiple plays on Sirius' Boombox (a.k.a. Channel 34). The album also has a mixed/mashed up version of Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

Joakim

Joakim
Joakim is a French modern electronic music artist. Multi talented and well-cultivated, he has released two audacious albums on Versatile Records (Tigersushi in 1999 and Fantomes in 2003) and founder of Label and Proteinic website Tigersushi. Joakim Bouazziz has always been involved in music. He learned piano at age six, with master concertist Abdel Rahman El Bacha. During his teenage years he discovers indie rock and appreciates labels such as Warp and Mo Wax. He discovered a passion for electronic sound after a school-friend left a synthesiser in Joakim's room. The electronic nature of the synth opened up a new realm of possibilities for musical creativity, and after a few months of prolific creation and sending demos to Gilb'R, the label manager decided to produce his album on Future Talk [a more experimental divison of Versatile]. What followed was a brilliant and amusing album with many references to 60s modal jazz, through which Joakim displayed his ability to manipulate electronic composition in an new and original way. Tigersushi was soon spotted and Joakim, who used then the moniker 'Joakim Lone Octet' stood as an intriging loner in the electronic music landscape. One year later, musicians such as 4Hero, Next Evidence and DJ Medhi revisited his first album in the 'Tigersushi Remixed' album. In 2001 he founded his own label under the suprising name Tigersushi and produced projects by K.I.M., Panico, Principles of Geometry, Volga Select, Max Berlin and the infamous compilation 'More God Dam Music' (MGDM)

Nathan Fake

Nathan Fake
Nathan Fake is 27 years of age (born in 1983), and yes, that is his real name. He hails from that most unlikely hotbed of new musical talent, the deepest, darkest farmer country of Norfolk, UK. Two years ago Nathan, headed for the bright lights and big city of Reading(!), and since then has never looked back. Nathan exploded onto the scene last year with the mighty 'Outhouse' on James Holden's Border Community label, one of the most astounding debut singles in a long time which has surely now earned classic status, still receiving regular club and radio plays one year down the line. His rocktronica follow up "The Sky was Pink" (graced with a remix by Nathan's main fan 1#, James Holden) looks as though it may even better the incredibly high standards set by his debut, now set for not one but two rereleases, one through France's Cyber, another in the US through none other than Francois K's Wave label. Elsewhere stateside one Satoshi Tommie is also a fully paid up member of the Nathan Fake fanclub, and has snapped up no less than five of Nathan's finest for 'The Watlington Street EP' on his New York based Saw Recordings imprint. Cult German label Traum are the latest addition to Nathan's hordes of followers, poised to release a three track EP early 2005. Also spreading the Nathan Fake computer-edit-funk message are remixes of Steve Lawler, DJ Remy (Additive), Avus (Border Community) and Perc (Premier Sounds), with the legendary Tiefschwarz currently waiting in line for a Nathan Fake rerub. An artist not afraid to reveal his soft underbelly, tracks like "The Sky Was Pink" and Saw's "Peary Land" showcase the casio rock bedroom melodies which Nathan produces when he is not in tech-driven dancefloor monster mode, and give a good indication of where Nathan is headed on his forthcoming longplayer for Border Community. Nathan has recently unveiled his laptop live set, to rave reviews. Reading like a checklist of the world's capitals of cool, dates in Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam form the next stages in the Nathan Fake campaign to take live dance music to levels hitherto unattained. Despite attempts from all corners to persuade him otherwise, Nathan harbours no burning desire to convert his production success into a career as a club DJ, and with a live show like his who can blame him! He is however happy to show off his many sides and eclectic leftfield tastes with an alternative backroom DJ set, and can also adapt his mainroom-friendly live set into something of a more experimental nature, as we can expect on his Border Community album. A young man at the beginning of his career, showing a level of accomplishment and attention to detail in his productions which ought to put many a more established producer to shame, these are exciting times for Mr Nathan Fake. "Man of the moment" is a phrase often thrown in his direction, but we can assure you he will be around for much longer than that... See http://www.myspace.com/nathancake for proper new music samples.

WIGHNOMY BROTHERS

WIGHNOMY BROTHERS
Music is the light of their lives! Wighnomy Brothers are Robag Wruhme and Monkey Maffia. Greetings, friends of the savoury palate. There are more or less three different stylistic methods concerning food ingestion: 1. orderly consumption; 2. suffering through some form of diet and; 3. a balanced feast. The Wighnomy Brothers of Jena have applied the latter, not only by taking in nature's fruitage, but by applying this also to their daily intake of music. Now it's time to deftly inform the rest of the world. To achieve this, they purloin not only the vinyl classics of others, but keep to the ultimate aim of keeping their own irons in the forge. The two tone-artists-slash-junkies Gabor Schablitzki (alias Robag Wruhme) and Soeren Bodner (alias Monkey Maffia), react to and revolve around the verbal confrontation. Both tap into you, starting stealthily as a mere bud in your soul, which eventually conquers your musical devotion. It all began with blond perms, armbands, striped stretch pants, heavy (emphasis on heavy!) metal and everything that goes with that image. Actually, all this is just a collection of lies told with a sigh and a smile. The two buddies got to know each other in 1988 while break dancing. The way it happens with some adolescents, the different music styles that passed through their eardrums included Hip Hop, early electronica of every colour, ambient, house, techno, jazz, funk, and even alternative/independent rock. Both soon concluded that the true sound aesthetic is far away from the instruments; at full blast it is only what pours out of the grooves in the vinyl. This being the case, the established "Phonothek" absorbs, selects and then releases product. The first refuge: Gabor stood in the mid-90s as "The Chill-Out DJ" behind the decks on many a relaxing floor of mother earth. In the meantime he played with Herbie Hancock and stood as a virtuoso in a keyboard shop. In 1996 with Volker Kahl he started the project "Beefcake".With his, rather experimental but simultaneously harmonious, electronicadevoted release he had notched his own international respect. Until 1997, Gabor & Soeren dashed through the Thuringian club and party scene, and are currently residents in the renowned Club Kassablanca in Jena. However only since April 97 they are known as the Wighnomy Brothers. Since the founding of the Freude am Tanzen label, business has steadily improved. Of course, not without the stumbling blocks and setbacks that happen with marketing mechanisms. However, in accord with the motto "Stehter Tropfen höhlt den Stein" (words of wisdom which mean when translated, steady drops will drill a hole in stone), the FAT vehicle with the Wighnomy Brothers steam engine stays on track. Also, for the last two years there is the added train car called Musikkrause and, the friendly collaboration with the Cologne based Kompakt stable must also be mentioned here. Morgan Geist

Morgan Geist
This New Jersey native was initially inspired by England's take on the sound of Detroit, but eventually tracked techno back to its Motor City innovators. When he began listening to music, however, it was the sound of early-'80s synth heroes like Devo, Severed Heads and New Order alongside early hiphop, jazz and 60's Hindi film soundtracks. Geist released his first 12" (via Dan Curtin's innovative Metamorphic label) while studying at Oberlin College in 1994. He formed Environ soon after, releasing powerful statements of purpose which showed his affinity for the more emotive strains of disco, techno, soul and all flavors in between.

My Robot Friend

My Robot Friend
My Robot Friend is no ordinary electro act. This is no ordinary act full-stop. Whereas science fiction (and indeed robots) have always played a part in the presentation and mythology of techno and electronic music, the figure on stage is far from being cliché. Looking like a character from the 80's computer-enhanced film Tron tangled up with a well-lit Christmas tree, My Robot Friend ambles around in front of his audiences powered by a neon-lit 30 pound battery pack.

The MFA

The MFA
The MFA (or Motherfucking Allstars) are Rhys Evans (Welsh) and Alastair Douglas (not Welsh), a live dance duo from London and Wales who stand first in line to the throne at the head of the UK live dance duo dynasty. Lofty aspirations indeed, but with repeated comparisons to the giants of dance music like The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Orbital and Underworld echoing from all corners whenever The MFA are in town, their ambition would appear not to be misplaced. The daft duo have earned this reputation over the last few years with a wide-ranging

Inspired by the best of electronica, punk, jungle, hiphop, bass, dancehall and techno, Kid606 fuses it all together with a love of pop culture that anyone who doesn't eat fried chicken ice cream would approve of.

The Chap

The Chap
The Chap, a pan-European modern pop group based in London and Berlin, began life at the beginning of the last decade. In their quest to create music which "sounds wrong", they pre-empted the current flavour for lo-fi prog-pop by several years and spawned a legion of fans who couldn't believe how a band that revelled in the multilayered detachment and precision of their recordings could dive headlong into the realms of hard rock n roll immediacy, gaining themselves a reputation as one of the most exciting, challenging, and engaging live acts around. After two seminal bedroom-produced albums, "The Horse" and "Ham" - the latter in particular gathering considerable acclaim from the likes of Errol Alkan, Kissy Sellout and The Wire Magazine - The Chap delivered a third album, the masterpiece that is "Mega Breakfast". This album featured corporate motivational style anthems about "proper music" and wanting to clone oneself. Despite being lauded by Pitchfork and many others, commercial success and world domination continued to evade The Chap, so they finally decided to "sell out" by recording a collection of pop classics that constitute their fourth album "Well Done Europe". Needless to say, it's another masterpiece featuring hit after hit, quite a few of which mention love and death and stuff like that. It sounds like the coolest new wave pop album ever recorded by a group of teachers (almost nobody in The Chap is a teacher). The Chap's music marries a deep passion for pop culture with arch observation and a sense of the surreal. This new album is no exception - a unique and heady blend of taut, hideously catchy melodies, hip snaking rhythms, memorable but unconventional lyrics all cut through with a wry sense of humour that some might describe as 'Dadaist'. Witness the frenetic, summery vibes of 'Even Your Friend', the shimmering, tightly wound grooves in 'Nevertheless The Chap' and the chugging, intimate closer 'Chalet Chalet' - "Well Done Europe" is The Chap at the pinnacle of their powers, and quite possibly their finest work yet.

Tiefschwarz

Tiefschwarz
Tiefschwarz are a German electro house group formed by two brothers, Ali Schwarz and Basti Schwarz in 1996. They performed deep house DJ sets in some of the biggest clubs in Germany and Switzerland as well as in major foreign cities and became increasingly popular in the house scene. Full bio Tiefschwarz was formed in 1996 by two brothers - Ali and Basti Schwarz - who have been successful DJs for over a decade. Peter Hoff, who runs the Benztown studios in Stuttgart, completes the Tiefschwarz production team. Ali and Basti came up with the name for their project after a DJ gig. Tiefschwarz, which is German for 'deep black', is a mixture of their last name, Schwarz, and their love for deep house. In 1990 Ali opened the "on-u" club in Stuttgart, which became a pioneer of the German club scene. Three years later came the "red dog" club, which quickly became known throughout the world as a top address for deep house. Here, resident DJs Ali and Basti played alongside the likes of DJ greats such as Tony Humphries, Master At Work, Frankie Feliciano, Mike Dunn, Mousse T, Matthew Herbert, Lary Heard, Chris Coco, Matthias Heilbronn and many others. Besides their work as resident DJs, Ali and Basti have been travelling together throughout Europe and overseas since 1995. They've played at countless major events and the most popular clubs in both Germany and Switzerland (Zürich, Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, Basle, etc.) as well as in major foreign cities, such as Miami (W.M.C.), New York, Washington, Melbourne, Sydney, Prague, Sarajevo, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, Rimini, Stockholm, London, Leeds, Sheffield, Ibiza, etc. After six years of DJing and promoting, the two brothers began producing their own tracks. They co-founded the "continuemusics" label in 1996, on which their first single, "24 seven," with remixes by Boris Dlugosh and Michi Lange, was released along with four other tracks. In 1998, Tiefschwarz signed a record deal with edel/benztown records. This proved to be a turning point in their career. Their first release, "music," featuring Joy Denalane of the hip-hop formation Freundeskreis, was not only a hit in Germany (9 weeks at No. 1 on the MTV Germany Dance Charts and No. 1 on Germany's Club Charts), but proved to be very successful in the UK as well. "music" was licensed to the famous "wave music" label in N.Y.C. run by François Kevokian and was remixed by Matthias Heilbronn. Tiefschwarz have remixed around 30 tracks for artists such as Ultra Naté, Byron Stingily, Jam & Spoon, Jennifer Paige, Randy Crawford, Master At Work, Earth Wind and Fire, Shakatak, Mousse T., AWA band, Whirlpool prod., Sabrina Johnson and Sharon Philips. The name Tiefschwarz stands high alongside other legendary German acts such as Boris Dlugosch, Mousse T., Knee Deep, Ian Pooley, Dixon, Jazzanova, Rainer Trüby, Ata and Vincenzo. As DJs, Tiefschwarz have gained a great reputation on the international house scene. Their debut album, "ral 9005", is a skilled and smooth voyage through their daringly diverse cosmos of musical experience. As varied as their influences may be, Tiefschwarz never fail to integrate their own, undeniably unique sound. "ral 9005" covers the spectrum -- from the playful excursions into Nu Jazz (mars, fusion I, fusion II) and the soul-filled deep house and garage tracks (there is, you, never, city-sounds, music) to 80s beats (springtime), down beat electro (follow me), soundtrack-style pop (bye bye baby) and kicking club music (no more trouble, acid soul, sky diving). This is all polished off by an intricate and powerful production. Their second album Eat Books includes the well known track Damage featuring Everything But The Girl vocalist Tracey Thorn

Le Matos

Le Matos

Their music is a powerful dancemachine, mix of pop melodies and melancholic new wave, inspired by movie soundtrack composers such as Vangelis or Carpenter and electronic artists like Kraftwerk, Daft Punk or Giorgio Moroder. goose

goose
Formed in the summer of 2000, they won the Belgian National Humo Rock Rally which led to a live session on the Belgian Radio One and MTV equivalent. Later in 2002 they recorded the debut single 'Audience' with producer Teo Miller (Placebo - Nancy Boy). In 2006 they released their first full album 'Bring It On' (on the Skint label). Dave Martijn was the temporary tour bassist for fellow Belgian band Soulwax whilst on the promotional tour for 'Any Minute Now' between 2004-2006. Goose started out as a AC/DC cover band, but they quickly found their own agenda by absorbing great amount of synth into the musical system. Belgium is located just between France and Germany - and in the same manner, Goose are the sound of an intense duel between Kraftwerk and Daft Punk at a lay-by in the Benelux. website: http://www.goosemusic.com myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/goosemusic

Franco Cangelli

Franco Cangelli
"Even though it feels weird to write about yourself in the third person, let's just take a plunge into my past doings..." Born and raised in Gent, Belgium with a pair of firm Italian roots. Spent his childhood dreaming of interstellar voyage, alien invasion and skies filled with colony spaceships… side effects of a daily overdose of television-infused sci-fi images. He first came in contact with electronic music in his childhood, right in the middle of the breakdance craze, backspinnin', body poppin', to the electro boogie of Grandmaster Flash, Africa Bambaataa, Jonzun Crew... Needless to say, he got infected by the electro bug at an early age. By the end of the 80's, Belgium came under the New Beat spell, which opened up an entirely new world, directly followed by the first insidious acid tunes. Franco has always been influenced by the more atmospheric, either moody or darker tunes. So when Detroit techno arrived at the scene, his mind completely absorbed the deeper techno vibes from artists like Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, Dan Curtin... But it didn't stop there. AFX, Autechre and other seminal artists who pushed the envelope even more, irrevocably shaped his mind to the more experimental side of electronic music, coming from labels like Warp, Skam, Rephlex... All of these influences define what Franco Cangelli is musically all about. His djing skills and production work cover different styles to satisfy his incessant need for further musical exploration. As a dj his favourite spinning styles at the moment are minimal techno & clickhouse and electronica. A typical minimal set for him includes relentless bleeps and clicks, dysfunctional melodies and jacking beats, gently spiced with some deep detroit techno, acidic tunes and experimental techno. Electronica-wise, he has an extensive collection of ambient, chill electronics and idm to choose from, to build up a nice colourful canvas of experimental soundscapes and beats. As a producer, his production is aimed at channeling deep emotional content through deep and minimal techno, experimental or dark electronica, or any other style that suits its purpose. His debut release was on the Belgian Toys For Boys imprint and there are future releases coming up on the new London Sushitech label, which will deliver some deep minimal and experimental techno. Steve Bug

Steve Bug
Germany's minimal dance connoisseur, Steve Bug, started his DJ-career in a small after-hour bar near Ibiza's Space back in 1991 - soon becoming resident DJ in the best club in his hometown Bremen and booked to major German events such as the Love Parade. In 1993 he released his first productions on Hamburg-based Superstition Recordings (which were immediately licensed by Risin' High- UK) and in 1996 he founded his own label Raw Elements, followed by a 12" for Felix Da Housecat's Radical Fear imprint. After "Volksworld", his first LP on Raw Elements, together with the mix compilations "Da Minimal Funk Part 1 & 2" Steve put the label to sleep in order to set up two brand-new platforms for vinyl releases - Dessous and Poker Flat. Always crossing the bridges between house and techno with relaxed dignity, showing consequently that less can often be more, Steve Bug is soon to be acclaimed minimal tech-house master and one of the few gems of the innovative German electronic house scene. Poker Flat establishes itself as the number one source for stripped down futuristic house music with amazing musical diversity and it's name spreads like wildfire with Steve's eternal minimal clubhit "Loverboy" in 1999 - the opener to his album "The Other Day" and the very first release on Poker Flat. For his second label- the deep house oriented Dessous - Steve shows his passion for late night unhurried house and teams up with Vincenzo for the project "Discowboys". A new mix compilation "Steve Bug presents The Flow" was released on Cocoon Records in 2001 and Steve remixes Robotman, ADNY a.k.a. Alexi Delano, Antonelli Electr. feat. Miss Kittin and others on labels such as Raum...musik, Italic, Turbo Records and his own imprint Poker Flat Recordings. Steve Bug releases his third album "Sensual" in late 2002 and teams up studiowise with Richie Hawtin for "Low Blow" on Minus as well as with Common Factor for a 12" on Tactile. The 3rd Da Minimal Funk compilation and remixes for Funk D'Void, Jeff Samuel and Freaks follow. Steve Bug's continues playing with seductive and laid-back funk, dirty retro basslines and random bleeps, incorporates techno electro and basic funk into bare house grooves creating moody minimal and seductive music. Further new Releases like %u201EFuture Retro 101, Traffic Signs (1, 3 ,4 and 5) and Tanzbug with Mathias Tanzmann follow showing Steve's love for the dancefloor and prove that he has an over abundance of funk and minimal melody coursing through his veins. For his third label, Audiomatique, founded as a playground for modern styles of Techno and House, on only the 4th release Trentemøller's Physical Fraction already scored a big success. This massive Clubhit was the breakthrough for Danish shooting star Anders Trentemøller. The next hit dropped with Martinez' %u201ESchadow Boxing". The new Steve Bug Single %u201EThe Smackman EP" came out on Poker Flat in early 2006, followed by the second edition of "Bugnology" in late spring 2006. Apart from his work for Poker Flat and Audiomatique, he still has his hands on Dessous as well and compiled one CD of the double-CD "Skin Is In" compilation in summer 2006.

Radio Slave

Radio Slave
Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards No matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to Matt Edwards. As Matthew E he fashions club-based, dancefloor slayers. Under that aegis hes updated the classic Chi-town, sound beloved of house aficionados and layered it with fractured funk, belligerent, oddball beats and mechanical soul. If Matthew E is all about the Saturday Night Fever, then, by contrast, Rekid is the slower, more deliberate, rhythmical funk of the mid-week mayhem. Its well-intentioned muscular intensity making it perfect soulful sustenance. Quiet Village is something else all together. A collaboration with long-time musical sparring partner Joel Martin (a vinyl freak, like Mr Edwards, who works in esteemed auction house Christies pop department), its sample-based music which veers from drawn out disco-not-disco delirium to evocative, under-stated soundscapes. Sea Devils - you keeping up at the back - is undeniable electronic pop brilliance. Working with Tom from Cagedbaby, its the least niche of Matts projects and thanks to Sea Devils alluring pop dance grooves they will no doubt be shagging the upper reaches of the hit parade sometime soon. Last, but by no means least etc, etc, etc, is Radio Slave.

grooverider

grooverider
Grooverider (born Raymond Bingham) is the stage name of a drum'n'bass DJ from London. Grooverider began his DJing career at illegal raves and warehouse parties in Britain in the late eighties, and rose to prominence with partner Fabio through his innovative sets at influential club nights such as Rage and Speed. At these nights, Grooverider championed the emerging UK breakbeat culture that would eventually split from house and techno to produce Hardcore, and then after another split it became jungle, which would in turn become known as drum and bass. Grooverider remains an influential figure in the worldwide drum and bass scene, in part due to his successful radio show on BBC Radio 1 (presented in conjunction with Fabio) which has attained a devoted audience outside the United Kingdom. Consequently, he is in great demand as a DJ and works extensively abroad as well as in the UK. Although Grooverider is known primarily as a DJ and presenter, he is also a recording artist and runs one of the most prestigious drum and bass imprints; Prototype Recordings. Prototype is known for its sporadic, yet highly-anticipated, releases showcasing productions from many of the biggest names in drum and bass, including Dillinja, Ed Rush, Photek and Optical. As a recording artist, Grooverider has released one album, Mysteries of Funk (Sony 1998), produced in conjunction with Optical, and a number of acclaimed remixes. As of 2005, he is currently working on a new album. Grooverider was arrested 24 November 2007 in Dubai after flying in for a nightclub gig with 2.16g of cannabis and a pornographic DVD in his luggage. Grooverider had been employed on a freelance basis and has not been paid by BBC Radio 1 since November. Four years is the minimum sentence for drug trafficking in the United Arab Emirates. "I must have forgotten the spliff," he said in an interview. "It was a small amount. Back home I would not even get prosecuted." On February 19, 2008, Grooverider was sentenced to four years imprisonment. He was pardoned and released on Wednesday 3 September 2008, during the holy month of Ramadan that traditionally sees the pardoning of select prisoners in UAE. In an interview with BBC, Grooverider described his experience as "appalling" and described the conditions in which he was placed.

dj pierre

dj pierre
DJ Pierre can be considered one of the "founding fathers" of Acid House for his role in the development of the genre, specifically by being a member of Phuture, who released the 1987 E.P. Acid Trax which is considered by many to be the birth of Acid House. DJ Pierre's real name is Nathaniel Pierre Jones and his recording names include DJ Pierre, Phuture, Phuture Phantasy Club, Pierre's Pfantasy Club, Photon Inc. He was born in the suburbs of Chicago. Along two other artists (friends) known as Spanky (Earl Smith Jr -founder/technical producer) and Herb J (Herbert R Jackson Jr - keyboards) he formed "Phuture" and together they accidentally discovered/invented the acid house noise referred to as "squelch". Whilst trying to find out how to use the Roland TB-303 bass line synthesizer machine they had purchased they came out with the squelch sound that is the essential component for a track to be classed as Acid House. The three were inspired by the new House Music revolution that had emerged from their home town Chicago's mid 1980's scene where the Hot Mix 5 artists (Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Ralphi "The Razz" Rosario, Kenny "Jammin" Jason, Mickey "Mixin" Oliver and Scott "Smokin" Seals) were churning out hit after hit over the airwaves and tape and vinyl. Frankie Knuckles was DJing and the Warehouse club (where House Music is widely acknowledged to derive its name). Pierre and Spanky had been to the legendary Chicago DJ Ron Hardy's club called Music Box. The first Acid House track they recorded was 'Acid Tracks' (renamed by Ron Hardy from its original title 'In Your Mind'). A slow burning, bassy, heavy, deep, unrelenting record that plays for eleven minutes and seventeen seconds. Their first track was put on tape and first played in the Music Box in 1985 or 1986. From the overwhelming enthusiastic response from Ron Hardy (playing it several times on its first night) and (eventually) the crowd, it was rerecorded at Trax Records (produced by Marshall Jefferson) and released in 1986 being the best selling house track up to that time. From this adulation DJ Pierre went on to record a good percentage of the first Acid House tracks on Trax Records under the names Phuture, Phuture Pfantasy Club, Pierre's Pfantasy Club (with Felix Da Housecat), Phortune with notable underground hits such as Your Only Friend (Cocaine), The Creator, String Free, Got The Bug, Box Energy, Dream Girl, Mystery Girl, Fantasy Girl, We Are Phuture, Slam and Spank Spank. So the Acid House style was created by DJ Pierre and co. One of the tracks has a voice proclaiming "We are The Creator of Acid Music and we're back." But apparently the term Acid was probably coined by Ron Hardy. DJ Pierre always maintained that he was anti drugs and the track 'Your Only Friend' is most definitely has a very strong anti drugs message. Ron Hardy however was a well known party animal and drug user and perhaps the name acid was used as an LSD reference. Acid House is a very repetitive, hypnotic and trance-like music form which has a decidedly hypnotic, transcendental, psychedelic feel to it (most Acid House tracks would not have conventional lyrics on them but were either purely instrumental or only had samples/spoken rather than sung wording). Later as Acid House became more and more popular and successful with clubbers and ravers it inevitably became commercial leading to many copycat tracks that jumped on the bandwagon and had Acid House remixes as well as many recordings claiming to be acid house which weren't. For example D-Mob We Call It Aceiid. This song seemed to kill the credibility of Acid House with one swift blow. Acid House is the first true discernible offspring genre of House Music. (It even had its own dance called Trance Dance where arms held up in the air and are waved in time to the music either alternatively up and down, side to side like an orchestra conductor or swirling around mid air in front whilst the feet are jerked forward one at a time). It triggered the Rave phenomenon in the UK and the Acid House/Rave/M25 Orbital Parties including the 1989 Second Summer of Love and all its media hysteria in the UK (along with House / Hip House / Garage /Balearic genres that came shortly after it). Whilst Acid House was initially a relatively short lived House trend (from 1986 in Chicago and 1987 in UK to its demise in 1989/90), it first signified the ability of House to carry on through developing, experimenting, morphing and reacting rather than stagnating. Acid House is what initially kept House as a broad church alive and provided momentum for the House movement. Chicago House was perhaps running out of steam by the late 1980s and so the quick succession from House to Acid House kept it fresh and encouraged new House genres we know to emerge and flourish. This was all created by DJ Pierre's accidental style of House and Ron Hardy's brand naming it as Acid. The rest is history. So DJ Pierre's contribution was to innovate House and protect it by allowing it to change - even if this was an accident. Due to the notorious unfair contracts and deals given to the innocent DJ Pierre and other Chicago House artists, none of them owned their own copyrights. None of them realised that the music they were producing was been exported and licensed overseas where in gained its first foothold in Manchester, Nottingham and the north of England before spreading at a phenomenal rate south and going pan European and then global. Not realising how the whole Chicago House scene was infecting the world so rapidly, no groundbreaking artists made money from royalties as their whole world at the time was confined the hothouse energy of Chicago itself. DJ Pierre moved from Chicago where the House Music scene was slowing down and joined (among other labels) Strictly Rhythm records in 1990 where he was also briefly A&R manager. At this time he also went to the UK for his first visit overseas to witness how the house and acid house movement had proliferated and become so popular outside of the USA. Other hits he released since leaving Chicago include Generate Power by Photon Inc, Follow Me by Aly Us, and The Horn Song Featuring Barbara Tucker. He is still DJing and producing at time of writing December 2005. Chicago's own Trax Records website says that House is "the biggest movement in club music since the dawn of Disco". But for its overall globalisation (through accompanying advances in technology affordable to youth) and its longevity, House is probably more significant than Disco. Although Disco (along with other music types such as blues, jazz, soul, funk, rap, pop and electronica) is directly part of House's parentage. Some social observers have commented that the House movement is the biggest cultural phenomenon since Punk. But again Punk was relatively short lived from 1976 to 1980 before it became passé, compared to House that is still going strong since its birth in the mid 1980's. While punk appealed mainly to white, lower and middle classes, House's appeal is undeniably more far reaching and Catholic. Twenty years after the start of Punk, the name was already a joke and meant nothing to youth of the 1990s apart from a historical event or a general term of derision - certainly not cool. House decades after its dawn is still going on and being played in clubs, on the radio and used by mainstream pop artists. Only time will tell the verdict. But DJ Pierre by creating Acid House is certainly one of the pivotal individuals responsible for spreading House's immense scope.

thunderheist

thunderheist
thun/der/heist (th%u0259n\d%u0259r\h%u012Bst): The act of stealing another's thunder, to trump another with something far more superior Tag team Thunderheist - front woman Isis and soundsmith Grahm Zilla - drop from the top rope and hit the stage, over and over again. Sinuous swagger seeps from Zilla's ominous basslines, while digi-horns blast the senses like homecoming marching bands and Moroder bears witness. Clutching the mic like a sceptre, African daughter Isis laces joints with lyrical angel dust, rich vocal foreplay brimming with braggadocio forte. You could be among thousands in a stadium, or intimate at your local bar... either way, if you're in the front row, expect to get wet. Thunderheist sweats Belvedere and Red Bull, and sprays more hooks than a heavyweight championship bout. Who knew that an accidental MP3 upload would have birthed a phenomenon. Never having met in person, but electronically connected through common musical friends, Grahm and Isis began Thunderheist as a project to throw a wrench into static hip hop conventions and explore their love for the dancefloor. The results have become their narrative of contemporary music, doubtlessly drawing on established musical codes, but also venturing into uncharted waters. Thunderheist are far more than an electrorap act grounded in hip hop, bass, and electro, but are also entrenched in disco, funk and R&B, altogether crafting a new definition of future pop music. A frequent flyer of the blogosphere with a rabid fanbase and increasing press steam, Thunderheist is gaining worldwide viral popularity. The band has toured regularly since their Eurythmics-inspired 'Suenos Dulces' hit the blogs in early 2007 and catapulted them into the underground club music limelight. Thunderheist have shared stages with Crystal Castles, The Black Ghosts, Plastic Little, Boy 8 Bit, XXXchange, and more, headlining three VICE tours (Sweden, US and Germany), playing major music festivals in Canada & US (SXSW, CMJ 07, VFest, Pop Montreal, Hillside) and performing regularly across North America & Europe. The epic ballad, "Jerk It" came to life in a 'cocktease' of a top quality video directed by Seattle-based ThatGo, winners of a fan-video contest that's garnered attention from dozens of blogs, tons of press mentions, NME.com coining them 'Toronto's shit-hot electro duo" and Pitchfork & Spin.com picks in Top Music Videos of 2008 lists. With the debut album ready to drop on Big Dada in Spring 09, it's going to get even more hectic. Thunderheist is gaining speed and bandwidth, one byte / second, and heading straight for tera status. Get ready for it.

qemists

qemists
The Qemists are a drum and bass band from Brighton, United Kingdom signed to Ninja Tune indie record label based in London. The band consists of Dan Arnold, Leon Harris and Liam Black. The Qemists were originally the drummer, bassist and guitarist in a rock band where they spent a lot of time touring UK and Europe as well as spending a lot of time in the studio. During this time in the rock band in the late 1990s, they acquired an interest in drum and bass and some of the group's early efforts started to get airplay. For many years they were performing in the rock band as their day job whilst producing and DJing drum and bass at night, and this conflict of interests lead to the fusion of the two styles to form The Qemists sound that is known today. They had previously worked as live sound engineers for Basement Jaxx, Kano and Lady Sovereign. Their debut release on Ninja Tune was a remix of Coldcut's "Everything Is Under Control" which was supported by Zane Lowe, Coldcut and Pendulum. Their first single "Stompbox" appeared on the movie soundtrack, and in the movie "Jumper". Some singles of the band appeared in many video games. Stompbox appeared in MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Need for Speed: Undercover and Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Lost Weekend appeared in Colin McRae: Dirt 2, Forza Motorsport 3, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and Need for Speed: Shift. The year 2009 also saw the release of their debut album "Join The Q" on the Ninja Tune label. In 2009, they supported Enter Shikari on their World Tour, and underwent their own headlining UK Tour. With the bands origins in heavy rock music and their fusion of rock and drum and bass they are often compared to mainstream drum and bass act Pendulum with both artists having similar musical history and styles.

heartthrob

heartthrob
Jesse Siminski, Aka HEARTTHROB was born in 1976 in Northern Michigan. He discovered dance music through a musician father and relative who owned a record store. Early Prince, Kraftwerk's 'Tour de France' and Laid Back's 'White Horse' were three of Jesse's childhood favorites. As a teen in the early nineties, he discovered the Midwest Rave scene, traveling to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Milwaukee to hear the unique sounds of the area. This is where he first hear and connected with the music of Richie Hawtin, Drop Bass Network and Communique Records-pioneer of minimal acid and techno. Their dynamic and challenging aesthetic had an impact. Shortly after Jesse became determined to make his own music and started collecting gear and recors. In 1999 Jesse moved to New York City, New York, United States where he continued to experiment with music as well as contemporary art. New York's small minimal scene brought him to Magda and Troy Pierce, who would become friends and sources of inspiration (musical and otherwise). Shortly after Richie Hawtin moved into the neighborhood and a friendship with the Minus family was established. The first public exposure of his music was during Magda's seminal dj set at Mutek 2003. Jesse uses his productions to explore the intersection where tradition and innovation cross as much as aesthetics and concepts. Where the ideal is function and entertainment as well as experimentation and emotion. Jesse has releases and remixes (past and forthcoming) on Minus, Underline, Contexterrior, Alphahouse, UnFoundsound, Mos Ferry, Get Physical, Wagon Repair, Tora Tora Tora, Phonocult, Esperanza and Stock 5 amongst others. He has been hosted to play at venues such as, Mutek New York City, Fabric (London) Popkomm at Watergate (Berlin), Volt (Amsterdam) and Batofar (Paris). Jesse now lives in Paris and is working full-time on music production and live performance.

troy pierce

troy pierce
Growing up in the quiet farm town of Muncie, Indiana four hours drive from Chicago and Detroit, it was hard to ignore the rich sounds emanating from these House and Techno strongholds. TROY PIERCE was among the first to pick up on DJs like Derrick Carter, Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin and was always out and about at parties in Detroit, Ohio and across the Midwest. Strangely enough though, he never thought about picking up a pair of headphones himself, preferring to leave the DJ duties to his friends. This way he could fully immerse himself in the music, especially the experimental ambient tones of the after hour chill outs. This all changed in 1994. He moved to New York to study photography and like every student worth their salt, blew the remainder of his cash on a pair of turntables. He'd been toying with the idea for a while and as luck would have it his flatmate was also the manager of Temple Records so there was an endless supply of quality tunes on hand from labels like Perlon to satisfy his growing vinyl addiction. Troy eventually hooked up with Magda at the Detroit Music Festival in 2001, who in turn introduced him to Mark Houle six months later. An immediate chemistry developed between the three of them and although Magda was now in Berlin, Mark in Windsor and Troy in New York they started swapping music files over the net. By the time the Run Stop Restore project finally crystallised into their debut release in early 2003, Troy had already moved to Berlin. It was a big decision to leave but somehow New York no longer offered up-and-coming musicians the same freedom of expression it used to, while Germany and Berlin in particular was setting new standards in minimal electronic music production. Since touching down in December 2002, he's been letting his music do the talking. As a relative unknown, it's never easy staking a claim in a new city, especially one with such a rich musical heritage but sure enough, through a string of successful gigs and a mixture of impressive releases on Minus (Run and Slacknoise), Underline (Louderbach) and Mo's Ferry Productions, Troy has been attracting the right kind of attention and is now a regular performer on the European circuit. 2005 was the year when it all came good. The release of the Minimise to Maximise compilation and the accompanying tour left a lasting impression on clubbers at such centres of excellence as Robert Johnson in Offenbach and the Paradiso in Amsterdam but perhaps the real turning point came in August at pop.com. All those endless nights on the road and solitary days in the studio came together in one heart stopping set at the Watergate club. Taking the game to an expectant crowd including fellow producers and industry types, his uncompromising mix of minimal house and down beat, funked up techno announced, in no uncertain terms, that he was here for the long haul. As a DJ, attempts to categorise his style pose more questions than they answer. Minimalism in its purest form is a tag he more freely associates with labels like Consumed - 'super sparse, difficult and totally out there'. Troy on the other hand, has developed a dance floor friendly hybrid sound that takes the best from the 'little movements and micro trends' that constantly spring up, helping electronic music to evolve. It retains the mechanical, futuristic sounds of techno but is slower and less abrasive allowing him to work between the lines, exploit the space between the beats and push out into the third dimension that epitomises the Minus sound. Like his label mates, Troy is a strong advocate of cutting edge technology like Ableton Live, Final Scratch and sample tools like Cyloop. The ability to shift between these sound sources offers him unparalleled flexibility as a DJ but the benefits don't just stop there. He recalls road testing a new track one night in Berlin, getting the thumbs up from the rest of crew but then receiving puzzled calls the next day because the track didn't sound quite the same -- he was of course looping in samples 'on the fly' and it was this spontaneous improvisation that really set the dancefloor alight. Needless to say these overdubs found their way into the final mix. From a production point of view his tracks normally derive from experimenting with his Machine Drum or expanding outwards from the dark, atmospheric vocal elements that play a pivotal role in many of his productions. Inspiration often comes through choice regarding the effects he uses, rejecting standard, tried and tested settings in favour of unique percussive elements designed to challenge and intrigue. The result is a montage of scratchy subliminal textures and grinding beats. It's edgy stuff driven by dark funky bass riffs that get right under the skin, the perfect tonic for any after hour as sleep deprivation starts playing tricks with the mind. As it stands, 2006 promises to be an even busier year than 2005. Having provided the backbone of their releases so far, Troy will wrap up his work for UK label Underline with the eagerly anticipated Louderbach LP. Alongside this, his growing status as a remixer (check out his version of Ellen Allien's Your Body is My Body) will see him reworking the likes of Lawrence and Donnacha Costello. There's also another Run EP in the pipeline but maybe the most interesting development is the conception of a new label - Items and Things - together with Magda and Marc Houle which should take flight in the spring. If that's not enough, there's a full-on, five week Minus tour of the US on the horizon. Richie, Magda, Marc and Troy will set off in May (complete with monster tour bus) for what can only be described as a next generation magical mystery tour during which they'll take in 25 cities. They probably won't be stopping in Muncie but it's a sign of just how much his stock has risen over the past couple of years and confirmation that a solid work ethic, positive thinking and a total dedication to the cause always bears fruit in the end.

DJ T

DJ T
Thomas Koch aka DJ T. / Biografie Thomas Koch aka DJ T. has been a vital part of music and club culture for more than 20 years, during which time he has built up a reputation in a range of different capacities: DJ, label owner, producer, event organiser, club operator, publisher and journalist. In 2005, he relocated to Berlin, where he's been living and working ever since. Blame it all on the disco ball. Born in 1969 in the city of Dusseldorf, at the tender age of nine Koch succumbed to the seductive charms of black wax. By this time, his family had moved to Frankfurt, and disco had reached its zenith; Koch's parents plied him with early vinyl compilations, triggering what would become a serious and lifelong collecting streak. T.'s burgeoning obsession went beyond disco and hi N-R-G - Village People, Donna Summer and Evelyn Thomas were soon followed by early rap music (via Grandmaster Flash) and finally - from 1983 - electro funk and its seminal protagonists Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Patrol, Newcleus and Mantronix. Their tracks had everything Koch craved: glam, funk, beats and bass. They were the soundtrack to a new dance culture. For Koch, this was love at first sight and he decided to take up breakdancing. Until this day, many of DJ T.'s own productions preserve the musical spirit of this period. Some loves do last forever. Koch's career on the decks began with trial stints at private parties back in 1986, which were soon to be followed by his first professional gigs at his own nights in Frankfurt club Nouvelle a year later. He adopted the pseudonym DJ T. - a moniker he retains to this day. Early fare on his turntables: black music in all its variants. Spinning at a range of different clubs in and around Frankfurt, T. soon found himself swept away by the powerful acid house wave that hit the city with the opening of Sven Väth's Omen in 1988. Koch switched to straight beats to move the crowds with early house, EBM and techno tracks, followed by his first residency at Frankfurt's seminal Music Hall. Throughout the 90s, he played almost all of the city's essential clubs, including extended stopovers at Plastik, Dorian Gray and The Box. By now, Frankfurt, one of Europe's foremost epicentres of electronic dance music, has become indelibly linked with the name DJ T. Towards the end of the millennium, after a decade of experience organising major events and club nights, Koch felt the urge to make his own vision of a club come true. In 1999, he, Patrik Dechent and others opened their own venue Monza, an intimate and cosy little club situated right in Frankfurt's city centre. In his capacity as DJ and the one in charge of the club's overall musical direction, Koch played a decisive part in shaping the profile of this hot-spot as well as that of its Ibizan satellite events for the next five years. Impressive names like Steve Bug, DJ Hell, Ricardo Villalobos and Tiefschwarz were among the venue's welcome and frequent guests. Run without Koch since 2004, Monza continues to claim its place among Germany's foremost clubbing locations; operating from its Ibizan offshoot, his former partner Dechent strives to extend the club's sphere of influence all over the globe. Moving back in time: In 1989, Koch founded the influential German-language magazine Groove. To this day, it remains Germany's most important and high-quality publication for the electronic aspects of life, alongside De:Bug. According to Koch, it was all about "creating a magazine that would meet my own needs. I assumed there were many others with similar needs out there." And history proved him right. Besides serving as Groove's publisher and editor for fifteen years, he has also contributed to anthologies on club music, among others Localiser 1.0 and Techno. In 2002, Koch and friends decided to start their own label, Get Physical Music. Within ten single releases the label had gained a worldwide reputation, its popularity and fame spreading well beyond its Berlin base - reaching #4 in the annual Groove reader's poll of their favourite labels in 2004, Get Physical also claimed the coveted 'label of the year 2005' award from British clubbing bible DJ Mag. Ever since, one would be hard-pressed to find a single techno/ house DJ around the world who does not reach for at least one Get Physical track when things get hot. Featuring six seasoned veterans of electronic music and club culture, the label collective also includes DJ and production team Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung (otherwise known as M.A.N.D.Y.) as well as producers and studio owners Booka Shade (Walter Merziger, Arno Kammermeier, Peter Hayo). Focussing on A&R, among other responsibilities, Koch tirelessly scours the scene for new talent and takes care of those already signed and their current productions. And yet, besides all these other activities, Koch still finds the time to pursue his own artistic endeavours. 2000 saw the release of his first production with 'Monsterbaze', a Steve Bug co-production on the latter's Pokerflat label. To this day, in addition to releases on Moodmusic, 20:20 Vision, Pokerflat and Kindisch, Koch has put out a total of sixteen 12'' singles on Get Physical. In 2005 he unleashed his first album Boogie Playground, a reverential and reference-laden piece of music paying homage to T.'s own past and all those strands of early club music that had shaped his future path. Conjuring the moods that gave classic funk and electro as well as disco, italo and acid house records their good name, Boogie Playground wrapped them all up in contemporary sound design. In addition, Koch's talents as a remixer have not gone unnoticed. His interpretations of acts like Spektrum, Mylor or Newcleus plus remixes for labels like ArtofDisco/ Yellow, 20:20 Vision, Simple and Naked Music have moved critics and crowds alike. In 2006, Berlin daily TAZ commented on his first commercially available DJ mix, Body Language Vol. 2: "Koch combines tracks from the most varied of genres...triggering the most disparate of euphoria-soaked locations, he touches on the different waveforms of twenty years of party bliss". Whether somewhere in Europe or on one of his extensive tours of North and South America, Australia or Asia, T.'s sets are invariably stirring and extraordinarily varied. Koch is most certainly no 'style fascist', but rather something like a bass and groove-addicted club historian with a firm grasp of the contemporary. His sets turn 25 years of electronic music history into one fine, homogenous blend, reminiscent of expansive narratives that transform the significant links between genres and ages into a truly physical experience. Yet despite all this inherent party spirit, Koch also knows how to send 6am crowds into veritable danceathons - as anyone who's heard him play at Watergate, Panorama Bar and Bar25 will attest. Spring 2009: four years after his debut Boogie Playground, DJ T. returns with his much-anticipated second studio album, The Inner Jukebox, a singular and accomplished set that reflects its maker's ongoing interest in rigorously re-inventing classic sounds for modern ears and dancefloors. A co-production with Thomas Schumacher, who used to helm Elektrochemie and now produces acclaimed solo material for Get Physical, The Inner Jukebox is an assuredly mature work, but is notable also for its youthful exuberance and confidence. The Inner Jukebox is not just a mere succession of club tracks, but it is again alive with narrative structures that tell a story, showing a deep respect for the history of electronic dance music and what has gone before. While Boogie Playground was an exploration of T.'s 70s and 80s influences, The Inner Jukebox draws inspiration from the 90s and is a more focussed adventure. So much house around right now is really just glorified minimal techno, vibe-killing in its meticulousness; by contrast, the tracks which comprise The Inner Jukebox are bold, vivid, expressive. They're cerebral and carefully crafted, yes, but more importantly they have a bounce and a sexiness to them - also not exactly a hallmark of current house music. T. has always sought to make proper, no-nonsense dance music with real groove at its heart - and The Inner Jukebox finds him fully realizing that ambition. This is no concept album - it's about quality dance music that will sound great in the club, the car, the home, wherever. So put another dime in the jukebox baby... Drop The Lime

Drop The Lime
Everyone comes from somewhere, but some people wear the cities they're from like badges of honour. Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, one of those people whose identity is intrinsically connected to his hometown New York City.

And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rock n roll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 60's TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego Curses!).

Hot City

Hot City
Due to their unfeasibly low attention spans, and bored of trawling the earth looking for new human producers, the friendly people at RAMP opened their cybernetic research department, to create new and exciting robotic producers. First, they made a rave robot, which predictably they grew bored of. They then went onto make a 2step robot, which again, they grew bored of. Upon relaising that cybernetics and robotics was no the way to feed the void boredom created, they disguarded their robots in the ditch behind the office.   The two robots began talking, and quickly sparked up a friendship. One night after drowning their sorrows with many Peach Daiquiri's, the two robots fell into each other's arms and had hot drunken robot sex, and 2step robot fell pregnant. Nine months later, there was a tap on the RAMP Recordings back door, followed by the patter of robot feet running away. Upon opening the door, they saw a basket, containing a robot child and a note, which read:

Buscemi

Buscemi
Since 1996, Dirk Swartenbroekx (Belgium) is making "warm" records under the name of Buscemi. He called himself after Steve Buscemi, one of his favorite actors. His style is deep and difficult to categorise: nu bossa, nu lounge, house, brazilian grooves, afrobeat, drum 'n bass... "Dancemusic with a latin feel" is maybe the best description of the sound of Buscemi. Buscemi is much in demand as a DJ for his eclectic, warm and deep style, but he can also be booked for a live-act. On stage, Swartenbroekx completes his sound with drummer Luuk Cox, bassist Hans Mullens, Dree Peremans on trombone and Sam Versweyveld on trumpet, and together they serve up a steaming cauldron. Buscemi is no stranger to the live circuit, having appeared on major festivals like Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, Axion Beach, Lowlands, Dour, I Love Techno, Marktrock, Montreux Jazz, Asparragus Rock, Oppikoppi...

Fischerspooner

Fischerspooner
Fischerspooner is an art pop performance project created and helmed by Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner that makes music, dance, fashion, film and photography. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider pop shows bursting with stage effects presented in both art galleries and traditional concert halls. Their full-length albums of music include 1, a punked-up digital party record trussed with conceptual lyrics; and Odyssey, a rich emotional fantasia with a deep, expansive sound. Fischerspooner's third album Entertainment, a sophisticated pop epic bubbling with hooks, releases in May, 2009.

Fischer and Spooner met at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where they collaborated on performance art pieces. Years later in New York, Warren was starting his career as a commercial director and Casey was ready to move .. a nine-year tenure with the experimental theatre company Doorika; both were looking for a new creative outlet. Eager to rekindle their collaboration, they attempted a TV pilot but became more interested in the digital soundtrack Warren had composed for the show.

Between 1998 and 2000 the duo wrote a spate of cool electronic tracks to accompany an ambitious new performance idea. The music was perfectly pitched for the turn of the millennium: a pure digital statement equally informed by Spooner's love of pop confection as by Fischer's classical training and background in the seminal math-rock band Table. The show, a smash-up of pop extravagance undercut by experimental theatrics, was carried off with aplomb by Spooner, the flamboyant trickster front man, and driven home with Fischer's pulsating, addictive beats. With the help of an ever-expanding network of dancers, singers, designers, and artists, the performances grew into large-scale arena-style pop spectacles staged in galleries and nightclubs.

After an unlikely debut at the Starbucks on Astor Place, subsequent shows jumped between clubs like Limelight and Baktun and art world venues like Jack Tilton Gallery, P.S.1's Warm-Up series and a staging within Rikrit Tiravanija's Apartment 21 installation at Gavin Brown's enterprise. Fischerspooner unveiled their first solo show at Gavin Brown in March, 2000 with a series of marathon performances, five sets per night for five nights, that cemented their reputation as a pioneering, uneasily categorized creative force. In 2001 they followed up with a supersized version of the show in Los Angeles, and returned to rock New York in 2002 with a kaleidoscopic spectacular at current gallery Deitch Projects, concurrent with the premiere of their short film Sweetness.

Dave Angel

Dave Angel
Born in Chelsea, the son of a Jazz musician, Dave Angel's first musical instrument (appropriately) was a drum at the noisy age of eight. Not one for conforming, even at the early age, Angel spent little time in school, preferring truancy to chemistry and the music room to the classroom. 1988 and the explosion of acid house in London and the rest of the country seemed to be the major break for Angel, who at the time was pioneering this unbelievable new sound on radio Phaze One. A well known pirate radio station in the capital. The technological explosion which was to rock pre conceived musical conceptions established the young DJ who found himself proclaimed as One of the major techno talents in Britain.(Echoes March 1992). DJing formed a natural progression into the recording process and two weeks recording at home with two basic turntables and two tape decks and a child Casio keyboard (yes a child's!!) in 1989 bore the fruits of his first musical excursion a remix of The Eurhythmics Sweet Dreams somewhat controversial but eminently successful. Angel's reworking of the track created such a massive buzz in the clubs that RCA were forced to officially release the track and incredibly it charted and climbed to No 23 in the UK National Charts first time round. Since this initial success Dave has not lost his drive to create music which continues to be regarded as some of the bravest and influential dance music this country produces. Heavily influenced by the Detroit sound he has subsequently released singles and Ep's of astonishing quality for Polydor/Love, OuterRythum, Fnac, Island, R S, Outrage and Apollo imprints, all of which have sold well and received a barrage of critical acclaim. Dave was also solely responsible for the Classic Sea's Of Tranquillity EP which was hailed as a landmark release by the Techno intelligence. Notable remixes include work for such luminaries as Orbital, Sun Electric, Carl Cox, Robert Armani, Juan Atkins, Spooky, James, 4hero, Roni Size, Underworld. The list goes on and on...

dj MUJAVA

dj MUJAVA
DJ Mujava's real name is Elvis Maswanganyi, he's 21 and hails from a Pretorian township called Attridgeville. He got his break when taxi drivers - who had heard him play on community radio and act as independent grassroots music distributors in South Africa's urban townships - started spreading his sound in their cab stereos and selling CDs they had acquired from visits to his house directly to their customers accross Pretoria. His popularity grew and he eventually signed with a well known South African dance music label. Up until now however, he's not released anything outside the country. DJ Mujava's formula on Township Funk's is simple. It's tough, dark, African dance music from the industrial city of Pretoria, South Africa. It's perhaps the most infectious dance record you'll hear this year, echoing the early Warp sound of LFO or the Forgemasters in an uncanny way, almost 20 years on, across continents. Township Funk was released by Warp Records (and This is Music Ltd in the UK) on september 15th.

Gaz

Gaz
Being interested in electronic music generally, absorbing everything that sounded good, Gaz decided to start DJ'ing in 2004. But it was not until 2008 he settled down as a dubstep DJ. He feels the dubstep genre is influenced by all kinds of music. And that's what he loves so much about it. So it's obvious his sets mainly contain dubstep tunes. But having played drum 'n bass and house in his earlier years, Gaz carefully selects the music that fits the moment. In other words: You'll never hear him play the same set twice, unless it's on your iPod. Deep baselines, finger licking beats, crazy wobbles; Gaz ties them together with fast transitions into a smooth flow. At the moment Gaz is also working on some material of his own. One track 'Annalyse' has already been digitally released and more songs are on their way. Gaz himself describes them as dubstep tunes walking the line of techno, house, breaks, 2step/uk garage and drum & bass. But his passion for dubstep doesn't end there. Gaz, living in the city of Ghent, teamed up with local club Decadance to make sure you can enjoy the finest dubstep on the dance floor. The 'Rotation' parties take place every 2nd and 4th wednesday of the month. One Belgian headliner, a talent on the rise and Gaz himself will get your feet moving. Sometimes an international DJ joins the line-up. Previous guests have been: Tes la rok, Headhunter, Peverelist and RSD.

Little Dragon
Iets speciaals, wondermooi."

ALTERN8

ALTERN8
Altern-8 is the hardcore/breakbeat rave duo consisting of Mark Archer and Chris Peat. In their day they helped to set trends in hardcore techno style, with several anthems, and a style of music that became progressively faster, with more bass, and definitely more noise. During this period, hardcore techno was moving away from the style of house music that was already around, and Altern-8 were moving with it. However, in 1993 Mark Archer started to prefer the house sounds. That is when he decided to produce as Slo Moshun with Danny Taurus, responsible for "Bells of N.Y.", and Xen Mantra, his solo project. When Altern-8 put on their masks and their weird chemist uniforms for a performance, everything seemed to be out of control. Their kind of music really seemed to be a melting pot where you couldn't define exactly the different styles frontiers. After all, it was all lumped into hardcore. So many influences made up the English movement, and later even other ones, such as Jungle and Drum and Bass, were then influenced by it. Even though the Detroit Techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson was considered a reference to all rave style with a track named "Truth of Self Evidence" (as Reese & Santonio), he had never made hardcore, and one day he met the Altern-8 duo at Stafford aka Techno City, and they recorded the "Let it Reign" tune together with Inner City: that's when Mark explained the basic ingredients of hardcore to Kevin, resulting in what he did later, like Tronikhouse's "Uptempo". Altern-8 started in 1989 as Nexus 21, because they just liked it. It sounded 'technoey', and they were both 21 at that time. According to Archer, it was already a proto-hardcore project. Nothing to do with the unborn bleep techno. They definitely were aiming for something more dancefloor, more breakbeat. Anyway, the "Rhythm Of Life"'s sales did not go well, and they decided to change. So, they choose the best option in 1990: to Altern 8! Influenced by the musical elements of the Detroit techno artists Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, as well as the Chicago sound of Phuture and early techno heroes Kraftwerk, the Altern-8 tunes changed the world of dance music, bringing these influences to all over the place, in a mixture of 303, 808 and 909. This was, in fact, "the sound of the Altern-8!". Notable Altern-8 tracks include "Activ8", "E-vapor-8", "Frequency", "Hypnotic St-8" and "Infiltrate 202". The duo produced an album on the Network Records Label in 1992 called Full On .. Mask Hysteria. After their single "Everybody", the duo split up. Mark Archer is still DJing now, doing live shows all over the world. In 1992, Peat entered as a candidate for the Stafford constituency in the General Election representing the Hardcore (Altern8-ive) party. He polled 158 votes and finished in fourth place.

The Glimmers

The Glimmers
Back in 1987, Mo & Benoelie were DJing for Ghent's youth every weekend, playing all sorts of music which was loved in those days. Back then they already reasoned that they should never shut themselves off from any style of music, that every blend, every genre, every movement was theirs for the taking. At first, they were being turned on by the strange and experimental sounds coming from the city's Boccaccio club. Over there, 12-inches were purposefully pitched down and extended, the result being a deep, metronomic, groove-laden experience, which later would be labelled as Belgian New Beat. Also back then, they made their first trip to Ibiza. Seeing Alfredo playing early electronic stuff mixed with all sorts of pop and funk at Amnesia, Mo & Benoelie really got hooked. Always open to new musical revolutions, they adapted all these sounds and experiences and took them to their new 300 capacity residency called the Fifty Five where they were playing every Saturday marathon sessions from 10pm till 8am. A couple of years later, when there was only house music being played in clubs, Mo & Benoelie were being seen as the 'outsiders' in the Belgian club scene. They played "other" stuff inbetween. They were not afraid of mixing stuff like The Residents, or The Cramps, or even campy disco inbetween the "popular" 4/4 house & techno music. Soon they started to develop a loyal following, which would later result in a new scene in Ghent's diverse but booming nightlife.

GTronic

GTronic
Gtronic is a Belgian Electro talent! Gtronic was 7 years old when he discovered his passion for music. His father had a music studio, which made it easy for him to experiment with some instruments. Just like his father did, he started to play the guitar. Growing up with music styles like Blues and Rock&Roll, he picked up a wide range of musical knowledge. After 10 years of practicing and playing with several other musicians, he discovered the electronic music world. After creating some tracks with Cubase and reason, his fascination increased. From one passion to another, he started DJ'ing with vinyl after trying Virtual DJ on the PC. Once started spinning electrofunk and tech-house, his style developed gradually to more harder electro like Boys Noize, Ed Banger etc. Gtronic shared the tables with many great DJ's, like: Monica Electronica, Fraulein, Q-Deck, Roque-cruz, Arcko Drazen etc. And at many places like: De cinema (Antwerp), Den Almoezenier and youth café's in Antwerp, Wilrijk, Valaar, Ghent, Kontich, Edegem etc. At the age of 19 years old, he started organizing electro parties "soirée électronique". Its success increases each year: more people, great DJ's, bigger locations, etc. Gtronic started in 2007 creating is own electro clash/trash tracks. His motivation: "Creating my own sound, and trying to influence other people."

Guy Gerber

Guy Gerber
The man responsible for those ends of night moments on some of the most respected dance floors across the globe over the last twelve months is more than likely Guy Gerber. As cited last summer in the UK dance floor bible; Mixmag, his universally embraced single on Bedrock Records Stoppage Time became the stand out anthem of the year at the likes of Cocoon at Amnesia, and Dc10 in Ibiza along with Secretsundaze in London. The single has surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales and continues to shift by the truckload and to appear on numerous compilations from artists as diverse as BPitch Controls Kiki, Francoise K, Wally Lopes and Sven Vath. Last summers success looks like being just the tip of the iceberg compared to the current buzz on Guy. First up is This Is Balagan. As the first part of a three single deal with Cocoon, the single has already been described by Sven Vath as the tune of the 2006 Ibiza summer season and who are we to argue? Follow up singles Sea of Sand and After Love alongside a remix for Dominic Eulberg are sure to make Guy one of the hottest producers in the techno scene. The coming months will also see new singles on John Digweeds Bedrock and Satoshi Tomeiis SAW imprints respectively, not to mention Guys own Supplemental Facts label promising further singles, many of which have a good shot at nomination for tune of 2006 come the end of the year. By now you might have guessed hes a production machine! As a touring artist, Guy has embraced the Ableton software to create a unique DJ experience rocking festivals across the world from MUTEK in Montreal, Sonar in Barcelona, and Gods Kitchen in the UK. Upcoming shows across Europe alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Tiefschwarz and Mathew Jonson will put him in the premier league of touring artists before the year is over. All this success may have been a surprise to Guy if you told him when he was 15 how his life might turn out. As a member of his native Israels Under 16s national football team, he started to play guitar and very quickly his love of football was replaced by an obsession with music. Listening to bands like Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Soft Cell, and The Beach Boys, Guy established a unique understanding for music that has informed his musical development, and from which flows his unique sound of bittersweet harmonies, natural mixture of strong and deep grooves, and futuristic bass lines. Awards in his homeland have come thick and fast with him collecting Israeli Music Associations award for The Best Israeli Electronic Artist" in 2003, while Israel's MTV and leading dance music magazine awarded him "Best Electronic Producer" in 2003 and the award for "Best Export Artist in 2005. Guy has also received acclaim in his homeland for his composing for contemporary dance arts in Israel, working alongside the world-renowned choreographers Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. While Guy may have quickly risen to prominence since his first single in 2002, with product on labels as varied as King Street, Kinky Vinyl, Alternative Route, and Bedrock, and becoming a darling of the compilation market for the likes of Ministry of Sound, Renaissance, Global Underground and Cocoon, he is excited about what the future holds for his upcoming projects and touring opportunities. Disorientation is Gerber's first solo EP release since his Belly Dancing EP last year on Cocoon Recordings, taken from his Late Bloomers.

Landfill

Landfill

Monica Electronica

Monica Electronica
Monica Electronica aka Emma Baas was born on the 29th of March 1978 in Delft, the Netherlands. At the age of 18 she moved to Rotterdam to live and to study at the school of Arts and graduated as an Art-Director in Advertising in 2000. During her study she bought 2 old record players, borrowed a mixer from a friend and threw parties at home. That's where her passion for music and dj-ing grew stronger. After her study she traveled around the world to dance as she was part of 'Aquarella do Brasil', a well-known Brazilian 'Rio de Janeiro- samba style' show ballet. After one year traveling the world for sambas, she started working for a film production company in Rotterdam. For two years she free-lanced as an assistant producer and assistant director. From '02 she became more active as a dj. She started playing every month in Club Stalker in Haarlem (NL) together with Estelle Decibel as a dj duo by the name: 'De Nachtzusters'. Her connection with Electronation really took her dj career a few steps further, the bookings started to roll and she started playing at several famous clubs in Holland like Now&Wow, Paradiso, 11, Nighttown, Off-Corso, and performed at many Dutch festivals (Awakenings, Dancevalley, Noorderslag, Lowlands, and the FFWD Danceparade) Autumn '04 created the Monica Electronica-buzz internationally and Emma started to travel around the world again but now to spin the wheels with gigs in Belgium (10daysoff, Groovecity, Culture club, Petrol, Café Capital) Germany (Berlin, Ingolstadt) Luxembourg, England (Leeds), Switzerland (Zurich, Scuol), China (Shanghai), Canada (Vancouver) USA (Seattle, NY), and in June '05 she made her first tour through Russia for 5 weeks, and traveled from Moscow to Siberia. Monica Electronica has a opinionated way of selecting and playing her music, her sets are electric with energy and vibe swinging thru Electronic genres to create a perfect dance floor atmosphere full of gutsy bass lines and underbelly beats! December of '05, Emma was selected with 29 other talented musicians, producers and dj's from all over the world to join the Redbull Music Academy in Seattle. This was a live-time experience and a learning period where Emma had the chance to upgrade her dj and producing skills.

Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, he's considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor jackin techno to advanced abstract electronica. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express and Foton as well as through Berlin's Lan Muzic and Brussels-based Meakusma. Riva Starr

Riva Starr
"Hij noemde zijn eerste EP ""I Was Drunk"" en zijn album ""If Live Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade"" (net uit op Made To Play: het label van Jesse Rose). Riva Starr maakt en draait stevig stuiterende house met plaats voor grappige en opzwepende samples. Fun, maar ook stevig doordansen! Voor (oa) Gossip en Fat Boy Slim mocht hij remixen maken.

"The Riva Starr sound has many different angles to it; It's funny, sometimes it's grotesque and sometimes it's bouncy & dark, it really reflects my personality." (Riva Starr)

Snatch! (well of course!) Records, was launched in April 2010, and has already made a huge splash with releases from Donk Boys, David Keno, Riva's own 'Splendidub', and Thomas Schumacher. You have to watch Riva's incredible 'Splendidub' video, which again he made himself on Ableton... another YouTube sensation - sheer brilliance.

2010 was an insane year for Riva - he properly rocked all over the world... With an enviable energy, Riva has DJ'ed at every major club and festival including Cocoon; Space, Ibiza Rocks, the Radio 1 weekender & Pacha in Ibiza; UK festivals Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Creamfields & Love Box; Europes Dance Valley and Pukkelpop aswell as Fuji Rocks & Womb in Japan.

It's no wonder Riva was named as "Player of the Year" in IDJ, aswell as Mixmag's "Star of the Year"...

2011 is going to be just as massive for Riva, with a compilation mix on the cards, aswell as his own artist album, a slew of new productions and exciting signings for Snatch!

Silkie

Silkie
Dubstep producer and DJ from West London. He released his debut LP City Limits Volume 1 in July 2009 on Deep Medi Musik, a dubstep label run by Mala of Digital Mystikz . He was personally chosen by Mala, along with collaborator Quest, to represent the growing global bass scene in Mary-Anne Hobbs live mix showcase Generation Bass in September 2008 on BBC Radio 1, two-and-a-half years after the seminal Dubstep Warz. It's fair to say the dubstep scene has splintered and refracted into myriad Sub(bass)styles over the last couple of years, but at the epicentre of the scene are a few artists who have maintained the original spirit of the style while alloying it successfully with influences that were always hovering on the edges, but never fully integrated. Silkie is one of those artists who's heated elements of deeper house and synth driven soul around the glowing core of DMZ's bassbins to create one of the lushest fusions in the scene. Boomkat, July 2009.

Tokimonsta

Tokimonsta
Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano. However, she has come to use this background to understand and create vast soundscapes and textures through the usage of live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse the sounds of the past with her musical prowess into something avant garde all while preserving old school vibes.

AGORIA

AGORIA
Real Name: Sebastien Devaud Profile: Influenced by Jazz and Detroit Techno, Sebastien Devaud, aka Agoria, is the latest in a long line of talented artists to emerge from the ever fertile French electronic scene. Agoria's style is minimalistic, dirty, subversive french electronica. Starting off his career with a hectic DJing schedule playing at many international clubs alongside renowned artists such as Jeff Mills, DJ Hell, Kevin Saunderson, Carl Cox, Colin Dale, Joey Beltram, Ritchie Hawtin and Christian Vogel to name but a few, Agoria has become an important figure of the European techno scene, developing a unique groove and approach to the dancefloor. With an opera singer parent, Agoria had been in a musical environment all his life when, in 1997, he fervently began to produce his own material. His fresh sound attracted a number of French independent labels such as UMF, Tekmics, Zebra 3 and A-Traction whilst being play-listed by the finest International DJs (Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Sven Vath, Luke Slater and DJ Hell are among his supporters). In 2000, he was the first DJ to be taken on by the prestigious FAIR, a French support fund for new acts, signing his first publishing contract with Peer Music the same year.

Alex Gopher

Alex Gopher

Captain Luke (Shameboy)

Captain Luke (Shameboy)
Capt. Luke leeft als veelgevraagde drummer (o.a. Zomaar. Capt. Luke draaide al in Zuid-Afrika, Spanje, Duitsland en verschillende bekende clubs in België.

CHEESE & HOOKERS

CHEESE & HOOKERS
Smeerkaas uit je speakers: volvette beats en licht ranzige, overstuurde synths. De 'hookers' mag je er zelf bij bedenken. Of ze meenemen, natuurlijk.

CIRCLESQUARE

CIRCLESQUARE
Some welcome news in a season that could certainly use some: Circlesquare is back. Circlesquare is Vancouver, British Columbia's Jeremy Shaw, now living in Berlin. Don't be surprised, though, if he doesn't sound like any of his citymates: for the length of his career, Circlesquare has never sounded quite like anyone but Circlesquare. Last heard from over two years ago, Circlesquare set hearts racing with a set of records released between 1999 and 2006 on Trevor Jackson's Output label, home to a diverse roster of electronic outsiders like Black Strobe, DK7, and Colder. His 2003 album Pre-Earthquake Anthem came as a revelation: rather than the fluo-funk of his better known labelmates, or the digitized minimalism of the day, Circlesquare came on like a molasses drip laced with Codeine, roping in such unlikely references as Tones on Tail, Leonard Cohen, Pole, Angelo Badalamenti, and even Cat Stevens. Boomkat called it "dense, considered stuff mixing up a brooding and pounding melancholy, bass-fuelled sensory exploration, and purest minimal electronic meltdown." 2006's Fight Sounds EP was even stranger. It moved like snails set on fire, dousing steel guitar in acid sequences and warped keyboard riffing, all overlaid with Jeremy's intimate, ominous voice.

Dada Life

Dada Life
Dada Life is a Swedish house/electronica band, consisting of Olle Corneer and Stephan Engblom. Their debut album is out now, they have had releases on a heap of different labels.

DOMINIK EULBERG

DOMINIK EULBERG
Dominik Eulberg, born in 1978 in Westerwald, Germany is an electronic music artist and DJ who has released numerous singles as well as full-length albums on labels such as cocoon recordings and Traum Schallplatten. He occasionally works as park ranger in German National parks, an occupation he plans to pursue full time in the near future after retiring from music. Dominik's fascination for electronic music began at a very young age. The radio show "Clubnights" with Sven Väth was a major early influence. At the age of 15 he started buying records and learned to DJ. From the very beginning he has given his attention to innovative and experimental records. In 1995 he bought himself his own equipment in order to give free rein to his creativity and to start appearing as a live act. Later he ended up in the city of Bonn where he started studying ecological geography. Besides music, nature is the most important thing for him and also provides inspiration for his songs. His first publications appeared on Matthias Schaffhäuser´s label WARE and on Raum Music, a label settled in Frankfurt. Shortly after, he met Riley Reinhold and Jaqueline Klein, which resulted in a collaboration on the labels Traum Schallplatten and Trapez. It is on this label. where his first album Flora and Fauna was published. Further releases on Platzhirsch Schallplatten and Cocoon Recordings come later. Eulberg has also made a name for himself as a remixer, and in the course of that has put noted artists through the acoustic hoop, including DJ Hell, Roman Flügel, Le Dust Sucker, Tiefschwarz, Einmusik and Nathan Fake. All kinds of sounds of nature set out the repertoire of sounds in his songs and give an organic, vivid character to his tracks. From the croaking of frogs to the cackling of birds, Dominik Eulberg always finds enough room for singing animals in his songs. That can be seen clearly if you look at some of his track titles, such as for example Basstölpel (bass gannet) 2004 Groove Magazine, the specialist magazine for electronic music, made him Newcomer of the year in 2004 and third best producer. His first album Flora and Fauna was elected third best by a reader's survey in the German magazine Raveline and fifth best album of the year for 2004 by both The Groove and De:Bug. Dominik was also nominated for the German Dance-Music Award in the categories Best Remix and Best Newcomer. 2005 The Groove elected him producer of the year and third best national DJ. Furthermore, five of his remixes appeared in the top 20 of the annual charts. By the magazine Raveline he was voted as second-best Remixer and Newcomer and also his remix for Oliver Koletzki was number 2. Also, he was voted as fourth-best act and fifth-best national DJ. 2006 Dominik Eulberg was again nominated for the German Dance-Music-Awards in the categories "Best Producer" and Best Remix".

FUKKK OFFF

FUKKK OFFF
Fukkk Offf aka Bastian Heerhorst has been renowned for some time in his hometown for storming live sets in the clubs scattered around Hamburg's red light district. "Die sündige Meile" or "the sinful mile" as it is known has seen its walls shaked and thighs quaked by the throbbing depths of Bastian's big room Fukkk Offf Sound. Many a night you would witness the frustration on the faces of lonely old men as they realized that the brothels were empty. All the girls would no doubt be down at the club shaking their money makers to the sounds of our young hero. These same streets are where the Beatles made their way in the early 60s. John Lennon was once quoted as saying "I might have been born in Liverpool, but I grew up in Hamburg."

With early influences such as his father playing guitar, he began a journey into music. From Rock n Roll to Ska, Two Tone to Punk, he ultimately finding a passion for Hip hop. It was around this time he moved to Bristol and took up skateboarding. Here he discovered that Krust and the Fresh Four crew were mixing house, hip hop, rare groove and funk at warehouse parties just down the road from his house. There was a movement starting around the time - there was the Wild Bunch thing, the graffiti thing, the carnival and sound system thing happening up in Bristol.Die got his first taste of musical production around 1988, when he hooked up with Jody Wisternoff, now of Way out West. Together they formed Tru-Funk and produced 4AM, a house tune released on Smith and Mighty's imprint Three Stripe Records. They followed with two hardcore EP's under the name Sub-Love and made numerous DJ appearances at early Universe raves. As Jody's and Dies musical paths split Die started playing at the many free party's happening in the southwest, continuing to make a name for himself as a DJ. In the early 90s a chance meeting with Roni Size on the Gloucester Road in Bristol, led to what would be a long musical relationship. Beginning with their first collaboration, AGILITY on Bryan G and Jumpin Jack Frost's label V Recordings.

Miss Kittin

Miss Kittin
Miss Kittin (real name Caroline Hervé) is an electro vocalist and DJ. She was born in Grenoble, France in 1973. At age 22 she began DJing, spinning records in France, Moscow and Chicago with Mike Dearborn. Soon after she met DJ Hell in Marseille who wanted her to record for his International DeeJay Gigolos label. She presented him with the EP Champagne that she recorded with The Hacker. Miss Kittin & The Hacker released First Album in 2001. Several tracks, such as 1982 and Frank Sinatra, became anthems of the electroclash scene.

Kittin expressed an interest in the visual arts - she studied both contemporary and graphic arts. As time progressed, however, Kittin found herself emulating her parents' musical tastes by developing an interest in musical genres ranging from classic, jazz, funk, and disco to English Pop. Finding her niche in Electronic Music in 1991, Kittin raved all around the country before doing her first mix in April of 1993. Her first set came one year later in 1994, at which time she started her career with Tekmics Booking Agency, playing in the famous Dragon Ball wild parties of Southern France.

In pursuit of other opportunities, Kittin left France in 1996 and relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where she would join the Mental Groove Record Posse one year later. Through years of an exciting and mobile career as a DJ, Miss Kittin is confident with her own personal sound. She states, "I get quickly bored when I listen to the same sound. DJs have to take risks, without only thinking about what people want to hear. Some people say I'm too technical. That's true, but this technique also gives me the freedom to concentrate only on music."

She has become one of the most important figures in electroclash, working with Felix da Housecat, Chicks on Speed, and Golden Boy. In 2002, she released a techno music compilation under her own name (Miss Kittin On The Road). Her debut solo CD I Com has elements from different electronic styles and is more experimental than her previous records.

She collaborated with Sven Väth, Steve Bug, Ellen Allien (for remixes).

In 2006, she released Miss Kittin Live at Sonar, recorded at the famous electronic music festival Sonar at Barcelona. She plays her own tracks, among others tracks from Aphex Twin, Modeselektor, Boom Bip. 2006 also saw the release of a double-disc CD Miss Kittin: Bugged Out.

Two years in the making and almost four years since her debut album I Com, Miss Kittin announced her second album, BatBox for a February 2008 release. BatBox comprises thirteen original songs, all composed whilst touring throughout the world.
