De vierde editie van het dubstepconcept Tensionstep wordt gehouden op de stevige Petrolvloer. En een stevige ondergrond zal nodig zijn: Reso, Bar9, Chasing Shadows, After Dark, Southbound Hangers, Point.Blank (Vyron B2B Matar) en Aircav komen allemaal spelen!

Praktische mededeling: heel lang geleden zou den heere (of was het de vrouwe?) ten hemel zijn gerezen, wat ons op 13 mei (the day after) een vrije dag oplevert. Praise The Lord voor hemelvaartsdag!

Chase & Status zijn de hotste drum'n'bass producers van dit moment en de voorbije maanden (volgens sommigen: jaren). Hun debuutalbum More Than A Lot scoorde zeer goed en Chase & Status slaagden er eind 2009 met de single End Credits zelfs in om voor het eerst sinds lang nog eens een d&b track in de daytime playlist van Stubru, Jim en TMF te krijgen. (hoe lang was dat geleden? Sinds Kosheen?). Chase & Status komen met MC Rage naar Petrol voor een dj-set. Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Pharell, Andy C, Hype, Pendulum, N-Type en Skream zijn fan. Trolley Snatcha is een dubstepproducer en -dj die releaset op Dub Police, het label waar oa ook Caspa, N-Type, Rusko, Unitz, Tes La Rock en Emalkay hun tracks op releasen. We voelen de bassen nu al trillen!

Op 26 maart spelen dubsteppers Gaslamp Killer, Falty DL, Emalkay en Sbstrkt in Petrol. De Amerikaan Gaslamp Killer was een van dé sensaties van 2009 door zijn onvermoeibaar springen, dansen, zwaaien en schudden terwijl hij zijn dubstep afwisselt met rock, hiphop en electronica. Resultaat: een compromisloos dansbaar freaky feest, voor en achter de decks. Intussen is Gaslamp Killer als producer mee betrokken in het fantastische Gonjasufi project. FaltyDL releaset op Ramp en Planet Mu en speelde vroeger bas in een jazzgroep. Zijn experimentele dubstep album van vorig jaar, Love Is A Liability, is een verzameling nostalgische tracks met invloeden uit de hiphop, garage, soul, jungle en electronica. Emalkay mag na een geslaagd Petroldebuut vorig jaar terugkomen, terwijl de gemaskerde Sbtrkt komt bewijzen waarom Basement Jaxx, Mary Anne Hobbs, Franz Ferdinand en Gilles Peterson wild van hem zijn.

Het dubstepconcept Soulblazers viert zijn eerste verjaardig en blijft de boomende dubscene uitdagen door artiesten naar hier te halen die het genre vernieuwen, verdiepen en verbreden: dubstep, future dub, future garage, wonky en grime. 1 jaar Soulblazers wordt gevierd op 12 februari met vijf artiesten uit de UK: Kryptic Minds (eerder drum'n'bass producers op Metalheadz) knoopten vorig jaar met hun bejubelde full album One Of Us aan bij Loefah, D-Bridge en Burial. Stenchman smeert samples uit (onder andere) de sixtiespop en tekenfilms over zijn dubstep en zorgt zo voor een verrassend positieve en ademende dubstepsound. Bij Kutz is de dubby donkere sfeer dan weer net zo belangrijk als de energie van de beats. Het toonaangende dubsteplabel True Tiger zet die avond met Sukh Night (19 jaar jong!) en Scandalous Unltd hun twee grootste prijsbeesten af voor de deur van Petrol. Zij spelen samen!

Het heeft een hele poos geduurd, maar België heeft eindelijk een drum'n'bass producer die het ook in de bakermat van het genre waarmaakt: de jonge Netsky is getekend op het Britse Hospital Records, waar hij na enkele succesvolle singles dit jaar zijn debuutalbum uitbrengt. Op vrijdag 5 februari speelt Netsky in Petrol, samen met oa dj Die (van de Reprazent/Full Cycle crew) en Syndaesia: een jonge Belgische dubsteproducer die een track van Wu-Tang Clan mocht remixen, een producerscontest won bij Switch op Stubru en de verwachtingen bijgevolg hoog heeft gespannen.
Petrol drum'n'bass resident Murdock is natuurlijk ook van de partij, net als Goldorak & Solpher, The Nitwits en Grimelock.

There is more than one artist with this name: 1) Hulk is Dublin artist Thomas Haugh, who uses a combination of organic and electronic processed sound with live instrumentation to produce atmospheric and expansive music, at times plaintive and brooding and at other times uplifting. Over the years Hulk has released material on UK labels Static Caravan, Expanding, Melodic and Osaka, as well as contributing to some on-line compilation projects. His albums to date are Silver Thread of ghosts and Rise of a mystery tide. He was well-received from the start, making contacts with the local rave DJ's of the time. By the time he was 16, he was playing at some of Houston's bigger underground parties and weekly events. After graduating high school, he moved to Florida to pursue music as a profession and began playing at weekly events. After finishing his music engineering studies at Fullsail in Orlando, Claw made his way across New York working at numerous studios with various engineers and producers. He then moved to Las Vegas to pursue his record label with Trillbass, which he co-founded. Claw also just did an official Dubstep remix for Wu-Tang that debuted at # 7 on the ITunes Hip Hop chart, and is currently back living in NY to run his art gallery and record label ventures. Richie August started out mixing Drum & Bass and Hip Hop in the south-side of Chicago in 1998. He began producing his own tracks in 2000, alongside Chicago Hip Hop artist, "Skope The Lyrical MC". In early 2008, Richie got his first taste of dubstep and It didn't take him long before he was refining his sound and signing his first EP of tracks to Betamorph Recordings. The Death Proof EP came out and solidified Richie and his unique blend of teeth rattling bass and Hip Hop edge in the Dubstep community. As soon as you hear a new Richie August tune, you know it's his. Since then, he's been making dancefloor smashing hits, remixing, collaborating, and is up to over 15 releases on various labels, with no slowing down in sight.

Hailing from the south coast and now based in Birmingham, Raffertie is the 21 year old DJ and producer whose innovative and down right filthy style has been smashing up the UK%u2019s underground dance music scene for the last couple of years. Playing high energy, bass laden tunes Raffertie has quickly became a firm party favourite across the UK. His sets include everything from uplifting pop classics and 90%u2019s rave anthems to the filthiest house, garage, grime and dubstep tracks, creating huge dance floor reactions that earned him a residency at Hold Tight in London. Alongside his DJing exploits, Raffertie%u2019s productions have received much acclaim. Following a set of renowned bootlegs that ply all manner of tunes with sickening wonky basslines, it was his original productions that caught the attention of some big names. With Starkey championing the twisted rumbling monster %u2018ANTISOCIAL%u2019 on his Sub.FM show, Radio1%u2019s own Mary Anne Hobbs picked up the distorted, devastating beats of %u2018Stomping Grounds VIP%u2019. Everyone comes from somewhere, but some people wear the cities they're from like badges of honour. Drop the Lime is Luca Venezia, one of those people whose identity is intrinsically connected to his hometown New York City.

And while many have only just heard of the magic of Drop The Lime, Luca has been honing his craft for years. From humble beginnings as a choirboy to a childhood obsession with 50s rock n roll, the 25 year old has been experimenting with sound for years via the underground electronic scene of Kid 60's TigerBeat6 label, Mad Decent and French label Institubes (under his alter ego Curses!).

With initial support in the form of grime veteran Plastician, Birminghams finest. Emalkay gained the attention of South London based label Boka Records with the warped, future bass drones and epic strings of Gut Feeling. Continuing the success, Testing The Waters EP was released in October 2006 followed by Monsters in June 2007. The revolutionary sound of Mecha, released in the fall of 2007, gained Emalkay support from the likes of Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs and breakbeat pioneer FreQ Nasty, as well as many of the leading figures of the current dubstep scene. It seemed Emalkays own potential as a pivotal dubstep artist was finally being realised. His final release on Boka Records was the reggae influenced My Story in April 2008. In the fall of 2008, Emalkay produced Explicit - a tune that gradually captured the interest of such prominent dubsteppers as Benga and received major support from acts such as The Scratch Perverts and drum and bass duo Chase and Status. The Gaslamp Killer is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose eclectic style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. Associated with Flying LotusBrainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs. Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, CA, whose downtown Gaslamp Districts bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he found a niche for himself amid the citys massive underground party scene and ultimately found a home for himself as a resident DJ at the club Low End Theory, which resulted in a series of club-sponsored podcasts. He also released a series of mix CDs, among them Gaslamp Killers (2007), Its a Rocky Road (2007), I Spit on Your Grave (2008), Hell and the Lake of Fire Are Waiting for You! (2009), and All Killer (2009), the latter a label showcase for the London-based world psychedelia imprint Finders Keepers Records. As a producer, the Gaslamp Killer made his debut in the late 2000s, releasing, for instance, a split single with Free the Robots, The Killer Robots,n Obey Records in 2008 and an EP, My Troubled Mind, on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder Records in 2009.

Vyron is 19 years old and started mixing since 2007. It all happened in the summer of 2004, where he heared Drum&Bass for the first time. He became really obsessed with the music, the more tracks and mixes he listened to, the more he got passioned with this genre. One year later he decided to take a fresh step in the music and nightlife scene and bought a pair of turntables, and started mixing as Vyron. From that day on, he is non stop mixing inside and outdoors. One year later around May 2008 he launched his own Drum&Bass concept called Burnout, this gig took place in CPO in Ostend. DJ's which were invited for making the party complete were NDM, Kaytodad, Muevete, Paranoized, Scypus b2b Vicelord & MC Mush. But the biggest change for Vyron started in beginning of 2008, where he discovered a new kind of music which is called Dubstep. It had an unique tempo and energy, which became addictive for listening to. Starting with checking some tunes of Burial, Benga, Caspa, Skream and lots more, to attending big dubstep parties hosted by legends such as Joker, Plastician, Grimelock, Rusko.. He finally found his true destination. Later that year Vyron decided to let the Drum&Bass scene behind him so he could completely focus on the sounds of dubstep. Later on he started producing on FL9 to sort out his own music, mostly in collaboration with his good friend Devnik. He also joined the Artificial VZW Crew and is now one of the organizers of the leading gig called Bassix, with this opportunity he also became resident DJ on all the editions that will be organised by Artifical. At the end of 2009 Vyron gets signed by Dubline Audio for the collab tune he made together with Devnik called World Of Fear, which will be released on vinyl around March 2010 as the backside of the killer track The Village made by no one else than the allmighty Excision. Now Vyron is producing from day to day, creating sick beats hoping to get his tunes on the biggest labels. His tunes were supported by DJ's such as Afterdark, Itchy Robot, Devnik, Blaztik, Requake and lots more! Vyron played on events next to Limewax (CH), Proxima (NL), DJ Vapour (UK), June Miller (NL), Saviour, Crossfire, Cal & Sikey, One87, Science, Lady Vortex, Murdock, NDM, Marcas, Madruler, Lady Vortex, Tito & Echo Virus, Scypus, Bonafide, Mental Research, Slow Slage, Lady Lite, Etnik & Fuzz and many more..

Some of you may not be familiar with the sound of fresh new talent, Kutz hailing from CROYDON aka the dubstep mecca!!, has been a busy bee deep in the studio producing tunes for some years now, some of which have been co-produced alongside his buddies Skream and Benga. Kutz track Twilight Zone featured on Skream's latest mix CD, Watch The Ride! which became one of the highlights of the mix.

De nu al legendarische radiodeejay Mary Anne Hobbs presenteert al geruime tijd de Experimental Show op BBC Radio 1. Haar tweede compilatie-cd 'Wild angels' is pas verschenen en is een hóógst experimentele verzamelaar geworden. Walsh zit sinds dag 1 in de dubstepscene. Samen met N-Type had hij een tweewekelijkse show op London's Delight 103.00 fm, waar ze resoluut voor de donkere UK garage kozen.

N-Type is a dubstep DJ / producer / label owner who reigns from the deep south UK ( Surrey in-fact ). He has been knocking about on the underground scene for many years. He began mixing drum and bass in the late 90's at the age 14. As music evolved he was highly influenced by darker 2-step garage and began his career presenting an underground chart show on Delight FM with DJ Walsh. He managed two drivetime shows a week, back 2 back with Walsh then later took on a weekend chart show as he established a solo career. He currently presents a popular show on www.Rinse.fm every Sunday nite 11-1am, pushing the freshest Dubstep Dubplates. He has been with Rinse for nearly 2 years now and is now in the process of expanding his show in 2006 with more interveiws, guest mixes and collaberations. His mix compilations were rinsed on radio, which helped him gain recognition and bookings all over England and abroad. He toured many of the london pirate staions and internet stations. Before he came to Rinse FM, he established himself as the main Dubstep DJ/producer on Delight FM and did regular guest shows on loads of other stations. His shows have always concentrated on good vibes and giving the best music and talent the recognition they deserve. He is always up to date with a wide selection of dubs from the finest producers. His attention has now focused on production with his first sell out Track "Square off" hitting record shops in 2005 on Southside Dubstars. He has now signed several tunes to other lables including, Dubpolice, Southside, Tempa and is currently on his second release on his own lable Terrain Records. His tunes have been gaining support from all the big Dj's on the circit and recently had BBC Radio 1 airplay thanks to Mary anne hobbs who made his production "Tolerance" Breezeblock Bomb which is due for release on the Tempa Allsars Ep. He is currently a resident @ the prestigious night in shoreditch FWD>> and Destructive and also one of the DJ's on rotation at the almighty DMZ. Dubstep producer and DJ from West London. He released his debut LP City Limits Volume 1 in July 2009 on Deep Medi Musik, a dubstep label run by Mala of Digital Mystikz . He was personally chosen by Mala, along with collaborator Quest, to represent the growing global bass scene in Mary-Anne Hobbs live mix showcase Generation Bass in September 2008 on BBC Radio 1, two-and-a-half years after the seminal Dubstep Warz. It's fair to say the dubstep scene has splintered and refracted into myriad Sub(bass)styles over the last couple of years, but at the epicentre of the scene are a few artists who have maintained the original spirit of the style while alloying it successfully with influences that were always hovering on the edges, but never fully integrated. Silkie is one of those artists who's heated elements of deeper house and synth driven soul around the glowing core of DMZ's bassbins to create one of the lushest fusions in the scene. With several epic releases under his belt and an official remix of "Iconoclasts" by the notorious hip hop collective Wu Tang Clan, belgian dubstep prodigy Syndaesia is turning heads all over the world. This young producer with roots ranging from rock, funk to drum&bass creates music with the sole intention of smashing up a dancefloor. In just a short amount of time he has seemingly reached sonic perfection, giving birth to dubstep with an in-your-face attitude that is on the wish list of radio stations & dj%u2019s around the globe. In 2009 his unique approach to club music was picked up by Belgian electronics collective AKS (Addicted Kru Sound), who offered Syndaesia the opportunity to become the official guitarist for AKS live & co-produce their upcoming singles. The very same year Syndaesia won Studio Brussel's producers contest with his dubstep anthem "Bad Karma", made a remix for the critically praised album "Wu Tang meets Indie culture VOL 2: Enter the dubstep" & signed record deals with american labels Code of Arms records & Abducted records. Today the Syndaesia sound continues to rampage across the club scene. His smashing debut album " Turbulence" is due for release in the summer on Code of Arms records. What to expect? A futuristic cocktail of big stadium drums, twisted basslines, trancey leads, explosive build-ups & tons of energy.

GRIMELOCK have been steadily building a name for them throughout Europe as Belgium's finest bass music export.

Coming from the early Belgian jungle scene, Wallace and Kalib created Grimelock in 2004. MC's Maëlan and Dynamic joined the crew shortly after to fill the shows with their energy.

GRIMELOCK brings on stage a unique, explosive and fast-paced combination of dubstep, garage, electro and hip hop in which are blended own productions, exclusive dubplates and timeless classics. Add to this the raw live energy of the MC's and don't be surprised if you find yourself bouncing, sweating and screaming for more.

In 2008 they set up Stainage Records, a label aiming to promote Belgian productions worldwide. They were also responsible for the infamous Stainage parties that brought all the biggest dubstep names in Brussels ages before the hype.
