Turntable Dubbers: Shepdog, Serial Killaz, ...

Them Dubbbers!

King DJ aka DJ 4T4

Khaoz Engine

Khaoz Engine
Khaoz Engine knew at a very young age, must 've been somewhere around his 12th, that his passion was with rough, electronic music.

He started partying at a young age too, and swiftly Khaoz Engine found his true love; breakcore, dnb & hardcore.

3 years later he knew he wanted to be a bigger part of this scene and started dj-ing with "Deadend", playing DnB & Hardcore. Only this wasn't enough...

At the age of 16 he started producing his first tracks, very eager to learn and with beats that were getting better & better.

At the pace of a pumping, menacing hardcore tune, his beats evolved into a sound that combines hard & evil ambiences with powerfull breaks & kicks. Tunnidge

Tunnidge
Tunnidge needs little introduction: one of the few producers to have two releases on the seminal Deep Medi imprint, the first to be signed to Chestplate Records following Distance's expansion of the label and co-owner of Origin Audio alongside Cyrus. With regular appearances on Get Darker as well a full and busy bookings schedule - which will take him to the states this Autumn - Tunnidge is somewhat of a looming figure on the Dubstep scene. Able to build both powerful, tear-out tunes popular in the club environment as well as darker, more contemplative production, his beats often tread the surprisingly fine line between Jump-up and deep relaying a real sense of momentum to any listener.

Original Sin

Original Sin
While some of you may not be 100% familiar with the name Original Sin, all will become clear when you realise that this is the new production alias of none other than Adam Tindall, one half of the undisputed kings of Jump Up Drum & Bass, G Dub. If you consider yourself a fan of Drum & Bass then undoubtedly you will have heard of G Dub, the Geordie duo who have been destroying raves with their inim...itable blend of rig mashing beats for over half a decade, and it's thanks to this tireless reputation for crafting straight up club bangers that Adam has become renowned for his outstanding studio skills.

Twisted Individual

Twisted Individual
Twisteds first releases were back in 1998 and for his debut produced Wales, the biggest track on earth and the now legendary World of Cock album. Seeing that he was onto a good thing,in 2001 DJ SS entrusted him to piss in his bed, and the seminal Lighter Rmx Was Born. Whilst working on his debut album he pieced together several jigsaw puzzles, two of the biggest that year.

Proving that he could mix the rough action with smooth talk, the Tooled Up! LP on Foolmation Records showcased the Twisted sound - he had crafted an album that would get heads talking, and the crowds jumping.

Following the success of Tooled Up!, Twisted found himself in the spotlight, with remix offers and DJ bookings beginning to flood in. Twisted was now able to showcase his skills on the decks all around the world. Picking up regular plays at all the major UK promotions including Slammin Vinyl, One Nation, Telepathy, Best of British, United Dance, Accelerated Culture, as well as residencies at all the Formation and World of Drum & Bass nights all over the World, Twisted is now an exclusive member of the top flight of D&B DJs. Always armed with a bag of fresh dubs to unleash on the crowds, his explosive partnership with MC Biggie has smashed many venues over the past few years. In this time Twisted has also been fortunate enough to have his travels take him all over the world, notching up stamps in his passport and champion hangovers everywhere from Germany to Estonia, USA to Australia, Spain to Brazil and pretty much everywhere else in-between.

As with any popular style of music, when something is successful, the masses will follow, and soon the Twisted clones started to fill the shelves of all the record shops. Not a man known for his restraint, in 2003 Twisted got back in the dungeon and cooked up a message to all those he felt were ripping his sound. Bandwagon Blues exploded onto the scene and instantly became an anthem with rewind after rewind ensuring this was a front runner in every DJs set. Off the back of his previous success and other tracks such as Rusty Sherrif's Badge, Heavy Metal, and Hand Grenade Twisted found himself up for 3 categories at the 2003 Accelerated Culture Awards, walking away with awards not only for Best Tune for Bandwagon Blues, but also Best Producer.

Since then Twisted has not stopped. Recent tracks such as 'Swan Cake', 'Konga remix' have kept him at the top of his game. His days are now filled with tours and DJ bookings as well as a spending time in the studio working on a whole variety of projects, dnb and beyond for his own Grid Recordings.

Rowney & Propz

Rowney & Propz
Propz - I first started listening to Drum & Bass in around 1995 on old tape packs influenced by older kids around me. In 1999 I started going to Drum & Bass raves in Bournemouth & London, this is observing the dj's at work is where I realized I wanted to learn to mix. In 2003 I moved to Manchester and started to dj in clubs, 2006 I met up with DJ Rowney and started djing with him and formed G13 Records.

Rowney - Chilin with older people i knew when i was 14, started listening to it through them and then started buying tape packs and vinyl and by 2000 i was only djing d&b. Started learning to produce after i started a sound engineering short course, started taking it seriously in 2004 and gradually started getting better until 2007 when i had my first release. In 2008 joined forces with Propz to help make G13 into the force it now is and everything went from strength to strength, gigs, radio shows, releases. Want to put D&B on the map back in Manc and unity's gonna do that!

SpectraSoul

SpectraSoul
SpectraSoul have a reputation among Drum & Bass heads that's second to none. Vital members of DJ Friction's irrepressible Shogun Audio movement, the duo have released music on only the very finest, most respected labels in the scene.

Beautifully deep and etched with grove, yet powerful enough to move any dancefloor, SpectraSoul's stunning musical productions are a far cry from the soulless, synthetic rave fodder so many unfortunately associate with Drum & Bass today. Tracks such as 'Alibi' for Critical,'Melodies' for Exit, 'Guardian' on Metalheadz and their stunning collaborations with Alix Perez on 'Forsaken' and dBridge on 'Glimpse', have insured SpectraSoul are one of the most talked about and respected acts in D&B today.

Bridging the gap between light and dark, hard and smooth, both in the studio and their DJ performances, SpectraSoul's energetic and varied sets continue to draw crowds at some of the most prestigious venues around the world. With an album project forthcoming, the duo look to expand musical boundaries, explore bass-driven genres like never before, and stamp their mark on present-day music... the SpectraSoul way

Alix Perez

Alix Perez
Belgian born Alix Depauw is the face behind production stature Alix Perez, now regarded as one of the most ground breaking and innovative producer-DJ of his generation. Shortly after his debut release, Alix sees himself catapulted to the fore front of the drum and bass scene carrying an ever growing reputation and sought after catalogue of music.

With a history of critically acclaimed releases on legendary labels such as Metalheadz, V recordings and Soul:R, Alix goes on to sign exclusively to Friction's very own imprint Shogun Audio, the home of his remarkable debut album "1984". Straying from the traditional confines of Drum and Bass, 1984 goes onto be one of the most highly anticipated and rated electronica albums of 2009 and beyond, gaining extraordinary reviews and extensive support globally.

With collaborations ranging from legendary soul vocalist Peven Everett to lyricists Foreign Beggars, 1984's prominence in the history of drum and bass is further cemented with chart topping positions and rare reviews in publications such as the Metro, Mixmag and more. This leads onto remixes for staple labels such as Ninja Tunes for household names such as DJ Food, Hadouken and more.

Heist

Heist
Well established as a DJ for over thirteen years, Heist started producing tracks Ten years ago. In that time, the roster of labels showcasing his beats reads very much like a who's who of quality Drum & Bass; Metalheadz, Full Cycle, Ganja, Digital Sound Boy, Creative Source, Integral, Play Musik and Grid together with his own imprint Co-Lab to name but a few. Never slacking on his quality control, Heist's incredibly adaptable production style has seen his tunes find themselves into a variety of big name's DJ boxes across the scene, together with the compliment of becoming the next in line to engineer Goldie's productions. Expertly balancing a long line of ambitious production projects with his first love of DJing, Heist continues to play out across the UK and Europe to an ever-increasing fan base.

In a welcome diversion from the antisocial Drum & Bass stereotype, Heist has also recently come into his own as a personality in the music owing to a volume of media coverage pushing him into the public consciousness. An appearance in Drum & Bass literary Mecca Knowledge Magazine providing invaluable knowledge for their 'Studio Tips' section was followed by demand for his DJ work at competing publication ATM, laying down a mix with award-winning MC Funsta. Further publicity has seen him interviewed for Drum & Bass Arena TV from his very own studio, alongside appearances on Ministry Of Sound and BBC 1Xtra where he held his own alongside superstars Bryan G and Bailey. With continual support from industry heavyweights including Fabio, Grooverider, Hype, Original Sin, Ray Keith, Goldie, Bailey, Hazard and plenty more, Heist's spot in the limelight has been deservedly cemented in recent years.

Recently Heist has been raising the bar with a number of exciting collaborations and re-workings, ever conscious of a desire to improve his own already formidable skills. These include a remix alongside Goldie for legendary Stone Roses front man Ian Brown, turning track 'Illegal Attacks' into a sexy Drum & Bass opus that fully retains the original's vibe. Further work alongside Goldie has seen him engineer hugely well-received LP Malice in Wonderland for the Metalheadz boss together with anthem 'Is This Real', the success of which has seen them return to the studio to work on follow-up LP Memoires Of An Afterlife. Meanwhile, Heist has announced plans for new labels Sumo Beats and Calypso in order to accommodate the ever-increasing volume of solo work; future plans alongside producers like Lomax, Taxman and Original Sin lurk in the pipeline together with releases on Propaganda and Frontline, keeping the vinyl-buying public on their toes with an impressively expansive repertoire of production credits. All in all, it's a good time to be Heist.

Bong-Ra

Bong-Ra
That is correct. Bong-Ra! His style contains a variety of crossovers and fusions of different genres, including metal, gabba, jazz, rave and jungle, making him one of the front runners of the breakcore genre.

Bong-Ra, Jason Köhnen's electronic alter ego saw life in 1996. Hailing from The Netherlands, Bong-Ra initially started as a dj, but quickly focused his priority on producing his own music in 1997.

Djax Records signed Bong-Ra in 1998, proceeding to release the debut album 'New Millennium Dreadz' and the 12-inch series 'Darkbreaks' Volumes 1 and 2. Bong-Ra at that time was accompanied by MC Guzman on vocals.

In 2001 Clash Records (a hardcore jungle orientated 7-inch label) was set up. In that same year John Peel invited Bong-Ra to do a 'Peel Session' which was released on UK label Death$ucker Records. Several vinyl releases followed in the period between 2001 and 2003.

From 2001 to 2004 the 'Breakcore a Go-Go!' parties were run and organised by FFF and Bong-Ra becoming one of the first (bi) monthly regular Breakcore nights in Europe. 'Bikini Bandits, Kill! Kill! Kill!' the second full length album was released in 2003 on Supertracks Records. This album saw an audiovisual co-operation with US based film company Gyromart. The track '666MPH' was used on the Bikini Bandits DVD and the videoclip to '666MPH' aired on MTV. The Bikini Bandits audiovisual project became an exposition in the Museum of Modern Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands. That year Bong-Ra also appeared on some of Holland's biggest Festivals : Lowlands, Metropolis and Eurosonic. Also a small UK tour with DJ Scud and Soundmurderer followed.

In 2004 Bong-Ra set up his second label Kriss Records, focussing on edgier breaks (mostly combining metal and breakbeats). That same year the Center for Electronic Music (CEM) in Amsterdam asked Bong-Ra to produce a special 4 track EP solely using vintage equipment in the CEM studios, resulting in the 'Colony of Electric Machines' EP on the Vynalogica label. The 'Monsters of Mash Up' European Tour in 2005 with Shitmat (UK) and Enduser (USA) and a Japanese Tour with Parasite (UK) was followed by the third full length 'I am the God of Hellfire' released on Very Friendly and Ad Noiseam and the jungle/raggacore CD compilation 'Warrior Sound' on Supertracks Records (NL).

In 2006 a special 4 track remix EP of Venetian Snares' 'Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett' and the debut of Bong-Ra's main side project The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble were released on Planet Mu (UK). The politically charged album 'Soldaat van Oranje' was released on Sublight Records (CAN). Bong-Ra returned for his second Lowlands Festival, becoming one of the highlights of the Festival (according to Dutch magazine OOR). A second European tour and split 12-inc with Enduser 'The Kill' and a memorable muddy Glastonbury Festival highlighted 2007.

After the succes of Glastonbury, continued 2007 working on a variety of side projects including ; Deathstorm (extreme hypergrind project with japanese noise / grind legend Maruosa). [artists]Glowstyx (90's rave revival album). white darkness (uberdoom combining funeral doom with classical music). The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (TKDE live improv sideproject). Köhnen vs Nottelman (improv hardcore electronica jazz core stuff).

2008 saw the legendary Bang Face Weekender take place, a festival with a legendary line up...a classic! The first Bong-Ra US Tour, and a return to the dutch Lowlands Festival.

Broken Note

Broken Note
Raised on a diet of pure filth, the Broken Note duo are bringing their own unique sound to the electronic music scene. Combining lean, considered production skills with an appreciation of diverse rough beats; they have quickly established themselves as a sonic force to be reckoned with. broken note is a genre on it's own.

Broken Note consists of Tommy and Eddie (aka Kidnappa of 16Bit), based in London, England. One from a punk background, one from hip-hop came together for a love of relentless bass music after wrecking their eardrums at London squat parties. Broken Note makes filthy drum and bass and dubstep.

Raised on a diet of pure filth, the Broken Note duo are bringing their own unique sound to the electronic music scene. Combining lean, considered production skills with an appreciation of diverse rough beats; they have quickly established themselves as a sonic force to be reckoned with.

Some of their recent and forthcoming releases can only very loosely be described as dubstep, with little in common with much of the scene's output. Instead they draw from the Sino-Rastafarian sound and heavy bass; but also combine this with more of the kind of dark and aggressive beats that can be found in breakcore and jungle.

Their drum & bass is similarly disturbingly brutal, with undulating beats and bass that are unashamed to draw from the darkly edgy sounds of gabber and techno. It delivers a rhythmic pounding that has set dance floors around the world on fire with its astonishing heaviness. The result is both at home in clubs and the vast expanse of a decaying urban warehouse, inspiring visions of a dark and techy future for their music. A description of one release was pegged as "The darkest, most frightening tunes that have ever found their way onto vinyl".

Their live sets are currently based around two laptops running Ableton Live, utilizing various midi controllers and FX running with on the spot warping, cueing and live key work. The content tends to be a mash up of everything from dark dubstep to hardtekno, the most evil drum & bass to hardcore; playing many of their own tunes but mixing these with music by those who they draw inspiration from. They are both diverse and interesting, as well as being guaranteed to be one of the highlights of any night at which they are playing.

Initially meeting through mutual friends in the late 1990s, Blade and Virtua have been producing Drum & Bass together ever since. Long-time friend and DJ partner Method joined soon after, completing the trio and The Sect was born.

Hooking up with Raiden and Propaganda whilst living in the South of England, they all share the same love of driving, underground drum and bass, especially the breaks, techno and futuristic soundscapes that embody the Offkey sound. This culminated in their first signing to the label - 'Nerve Attack'.

Heavily influenced by the futuristic releases on Underfire, the techno-edged Konflict sound and the early Prodigy tracks, The Sect aim to produce forward-thinking tracks which blend techno and drum and bass elements to move the dance floor.

They are no strangers to the 1210s either, Blade & Method having DJ'd regularly at clubs and events across the UK and abroad for over ten years and Virtua showcasing his turntablist skills at the DMC championships.

Although as individuals they have had various releases across a number of different genres (currently Virtua is enjoying success as one half of burgeoning Breakbeat duo Digital Breaks Foundation), together they are committed to pushing the technoid Drum & Bass sound and are excited to join the Offkey family.

With current releases on Offkey and Obscene and also a whole host of new tracks signed to Offkey, Freak, Position Chrome, ELP and Habit, The Sect are picking up interest from a lot of big name players within the scene, plus establishing themselves as big favourites of die hard Drum and Bass fans all over the world. Playing at nights throughout the UK and Europe, these guys are destroying dance floors wherever they play, or even where their tunes are played.

You have been warned.. Prepare for a complete technoid onslaught of Drum & Bass.

The Panacea

The Panacea
Mathis Mootz, the teutonic mastermind and producer behind The Panacea from Wuerzburg, Germany, has developed and perfected his sinister drum and Bass mashup style over the years. The Panacea is the digital Napalm Death, fueled by wreck-step beats, he samples and generally throws together elements of hardcore techno, drum'n'bass, jungle and industrial into his unique explosive sound.

As one of the dominant faces of the German Position Chrome Label he has released 23 ep's and 5 albums since 1996. His debut 'Low Profile Darkness' was one of his most influential works to date, and a huge success with over 12,000 copies sold. Others followed like the techno and hardcore influenced 'Twisted Designz','Phoenix Metabolism' with it's hip hop and booty bass roots, the enormous 'German Engineering' and 'Underground Superstardom', and the experimental and noisy 'Architettura'.

His experimental, electro, and neo-industrial beats were produced under the aliases of Squaremeter, Disorder, Warfare, Kate Mosh, Bad Street Boy, Radar and Rich Kid. These productions landed on labels like Mille Plateaux, Ant-Zen, Hands Productions, Ambush, Ad Noiseam, Kniteforce, Intransigent and Outbreak to name a few.

The rebirth of Position Chrome, and the launch of close friend Raidens' Offkey Recordings, marks the start for awesome collaborations and heavy tuneage in the future. The Panacea has recently joined the Anger Management DJ roster, and will be releasing this year on Dylan's mighty Freak Recordings.
