Skatchou Bottos (B, live, ska)

Skatchou Bottos (B, live, ska)
The ska-band Skatchou Bottos was born in 2004 in Ghent. During a school excursion in the Ardens, a bunch of students at the faculty of Bio-engineer sciences came up with plans to start a band. The first six pairs of "Bottos" were put on by Hans (alt sax), Bos (keys), Bert (base), Rik (guitar), Frederic (voices) and Bastiaan (drums), who started practicing and working out songs every wednesday after school. Soon, trumpet player Koen and tenor sax Wannes joined the band and the first own songs were finished. After a short brake during summer 2005, the first small concerts arrived, at café Kosmic and at the Faculty. After a while, Bastiaan was replaced by Erik, and three new faces and instruments showed up: Pieter on trombone, Yasmin on voice and Ruben on the congas. The 11 Bottos were now complete and became very close friends. In 2007, a dazzling period broke down, with concerts in the Vooruit, the Bijloke, at the Student Kickoff, and first gigs outside the city of Ghent. In the summer of 2008, the Skatchou Bottos were on tour in Germany and played several concerts in Bremen, Braunschweig and Berlin. A first EP was recorded at the Galaxy Studios in Mol. The music of the Skatchou Bottos can be described as world music, influenced by rhythm, latin and reggae, combining Southern, Eastern and Western aspects. After more than three years, the Skatchou Bottos built up a strong live reputation, which was rewarded by several public prices.
