Balkan Fever!

Dansen en feesten vanaf de eerste noten, dàt zijn de Balkanfeestjes waarvoor wij onze wodkaflesjes opendraaien!
En met twee Antwerpse livebands, een top liveduo uit Belgrado en 2 lokale Balkan (?!) soundsystems zal 1 flesje niet genoeg zijn...

Top-avond met optredens van het Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orkestra (nr 1 in de Sound Roots World Music album charts!) en Merdan Taplak Live (Merdan takes it to the next Balkan level, met liveband!)



Uit Belgrado komt het Shazalakazoo duo: als geen andere Serviërs geven zij een electronische toets aan al dat accordeon- en trompetjolijt.

Na hun optreden zullen de Antwerp Gipsies ook nog deejayen en tot slot is er ook dj Dunya: world balkan electro swing. Balkan Fever!

Sweet Coffee heeft een nieuwe plaat "Face To Face" en doet het voortaan met verschillende gastzanger(es)s(en). Single Never Ending Love klinkt alvast dansbaarder dan het vroegere werk van de groep, de nieuwe plaat komen ze voorstellen op zaterdag 13 maart.
Ook Belgisch en ook live op het podium: Lize Accoe. De jonge Belgische jazzstudente zong eerder front bij DeLaVega (met wie ze ook een Zamu Award won) en backings bij Ozark Henry. Lize heeft net een eigen album uit, geproducet door Peter Revalk van Wizards of Ooze. Funk, soul en jazz! (en pas nog in het voorprogramma van Joss Stone)
Na en tussen de optredens wordt verder gedanst en gefeest op de brazza-, bossa- en balkanbeats van Buscemi en Merdan Taplak.

Shazalakazoo is an electronic music duet from Belgrade (Serbia) that has been active since 1998. They combine authentic music from their area (The Balkans) with electronic rhythms, big fat basslines and synthesized sounds, creating a whole new unique balkan-electro dance club music - THE FOLKSTEP.

One deejay, one accordionist and four brass musicians, all originating from Antwerp, Belgium. No golden teeth, no suspenders or hats, no gipsy roots, but one hell of a fiesta balkananica! Mashed up with electronica, bridging the gap between balkan- and popclassics. Oppaah!

Fatima Spar und die Freedom Fries consist of Nihal %u015Eentürk (Fatima Spar - vocals), Andrej Prozorov (sax), Alexander Wladigeroff (trumpet), Erwin Schober (drums), Franz Grützner (trombone), and Philipp Moosbrugger (bass). They were formed in 2004 - an Austrian folk brass band with a Turkish singer that integrates jazz and many musical styles mainly from southeastern Europe. www.freedomfries.at

Merdan Taplak, born in Antwerp and raised Asianly, is without doubt the next big thing in the Belgian and European deejay scene. Rocking all stages of all major festivals in Belgium, Merdan Taplak is hitting the crowd and he is hitting them hard.

Often referred to as "the Bosphorus' third bridge", he creates a new world with new sounds through melodies from across the globe, passionately reconciled into electronic worldgroove. Like a Turkish grocer, trafficking in sounds. A fresh shop, always discovering new flavours which take you by surprise. You won't believe your ears. Not even mentioning your legs.

Merdans international acclaim is growing steadily, due to his energetic dj-sets and upcomming electro-world productions. His latest single, "MARCH OF THE SULTANS" is supported by lots of worldmusic deejays, worldfamous deejay Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio One) called it "a festival banger!". The track has been compiled on the infamous "BALKAN BEATS" compilation by Robert Soko. The METISSE EP covers both sides of Merdans musical spectrum: a heavily electrified track topped with african vocals, an absolute floorfiller.

Merdan is highly positioned as a deejay/producer but he keeps on going. Attending every (world)music festival, he is acknowledged by international connoisseurs as one of the rising stars in his genre. From New York to Vienna, from Brussels to Berlin, Merdan Taplak mashes it up globally!  

SHANTEL is voor eeuwig verbonden aan zijn Bucovina-club, die telkens voor een onvervalste show zorgt, waarbij de Balkan-gensters in het rond vliegen. Intussen is hij echter alweer op weg naar een nieuw avontuur met zijn Disko Partizani! Album wat hij zelf omschrijft als de grondslag voor een heel nieuwe vorm van popmuziek.
