Biografie

The mega music outlet of Evi Hanssen.
Evi Hanssen is a household name in Flemish media. As a television personality and presenter she gained experience hosting several popular national TV shows.

Evi studied jazz music at the conservatory of Antwerp and later became a VJ at TMF. But UMA takes her back to her first true love: Music.

UMA's first partner in crime was Marc Requilé. (Vive La Fete, Evil Superstars). They met backstage at some festival and shared both crazy ideas as too many wines. Their musical willfulness not to compromise laid the basis for the UMA Sound. Marc hit his synths and bass while Evi blew out some pop-jazz-rock notes. A little bit of Blondie, a little bit Suzy Quatro, a touch of Garbage, mixed with mysterious bass and some disco drums...

UMA's first single "100 Hours Later", released in May 2009 and produced & mixed by Jo Francken (Milow, Admiral Freebee, Monza,...), had great airplay at Studio Brussel during that summer.

But UMA was meant to be out there, in the open! Belgians' finest musicians (Ben Brunin - bass, Pieter Van Buyten - guitar, Dirk Jans - drums) translated the unique UMA sound into a onstage-live-kick ass-performance. Pieter Van Buyten took on the challenge to produce the first UMA album. But first, nature was calling.

In 2009 and 2010, while writing and performing with UMA and travelling the world as a TV host, Evi also gave birth to two beautiful sons, Scout and Mac. So after all the baby nursering, the nappy changing and singing lullabies, Evi is ready full force to get UMA in pole position.

POLAROID is the first UMA album. Like snapshots of her life, Polaroid reflects Evi's musical influences.
11 songs who melt perfectly with skinny jeans, leather jackets, a sombrero head and high heels. Hot and tight. Just like UMA.
